Summary: Tyree's best book yet
Review: I enjoyed Single Mom even though I have no kids. I especially liked the way Tyree spoke mainly from the male point-of-view rather than basing the narratives on a woman's inconstant thought process.

Summary: I like this book

Summary: Exceptional and insightful
Review: I thoguht that this book was very entertaiing while at the same time a great educational tool. I am not a single mother but I know several single mothers who express the same views that the main character Denise does.

I was saddened to to read that Walter would hide his financial wealth from his son and only supply the finances that he thought was necessary to raise his son. I was also saddened that Denise tried to keep Jimmie away from his son, making him wait at the park to meet his son is something that is so unfair.

Althoguh there were aspects of the characters that I did not personally like I beleive that Omar Tyree has successful dealt with the situation that single mothers and thier children's fathers are placed in. I thought the book was very good and hope that single mothers are not the only ones reading it. I pray that absent fathers are picking this book up as well.

This book is worht buying for all those who are still on the fence about it.

Summary: Reminds me so much of myself . . .
Review: I really enjoyed the book Single Mom. It really hit home for me because it reminds me so much of myself. I am a single mother with two boys who are 10 years apart, and like Denise, I am a superwoman (good job, own my own home, car, like to travel, etc.), single mom and no longer want to be. Also like Denise I compromised too much early in life when it came to the opposite sex and its really hard to give anything now, especially when dealing with guys I think are trifling. I am trying to be more open-minded in the guys I date these days, and I hope I find me a good man like Dennis, who is not insecure with my success and who also has goals and is trying to reach them. Wish me luck!

Summary: Not all that but informative
Review: In my opinion I really liked how informed we were about each character and given a full view of how hard it is for Single Mother and their children. I just felt as though the way the book ended it left a lot of questions unanswered and unresolved. I felt as though this was not Omar Tyree's best work and I doubt it that I would recommend it as the best selection I have read all year.

Summary: Good reading but could be better
Review: I was looking forward to reading this book because I enjoyed "Flyy Girl" and "A Do Right Man" however I must say that I was a bit disappointed. I felt that this book was more about single dads than single moms. It gave more of the point of view of Jimmy, Dennis and Walter than that of Denise. I also felt at times as if the book was too preachy and a bit self righteous, it also felt more like I was reading an essay than a novel. I could relate to each of the characters on one level or another but overall I thought parts of it was unrealistic. I am not trying to bash the writer because I know that he is a good writer, however I felt that this book did not fully show his talent. I look forward to his next novel.

Summary: Not Omar's best work
Review: As much as I usually enjoy Omar's books, this work proved lackluster in comparison to Flyy Girl, A Do Right Man, and Capital City. I had no feelings for the poorly developed characters. I see where Omar was coming from with the idea, but it read more as an essay than a novel. It seemed as if he was trying to be a Sunday School preacher. Walter and JD were terrible fathers who only wanted to get into their children's life to appease their own guilty conscience, not for love of their estranged sons. I also felt that they were too accepting of Brock, who did not need a narration in the novel. Overall, this wasn't a bad book, but it certainly was not his best effort.

Summary: Awsome
Review: Denise is living my vision. Omar how could you have know what reality could be possible for an individual. I truly enjoyed this booked and it stated such an reality bite for me. Career wise Denise is living my vision and making it clearly plain for a sister who wants to help others. Thanks Omar for waking up a burning desire that I almost thought was unreal to see.

Summary: Somewhat thin. . .
Review: After reading Omar Tyreee's "Single Mom," I felt that it was a good story that deserved a better turn. I will not "bash" Tyree for his admirable efforts, however, much more could have been explored in this rushed novel. Because of the lack of character development for the readers, none of these people seemed worthy of concern. There was little explanation for why an intelligent woman would be involved with Walter. There was no explainig why J.D. would even toy with a child as young as Jamal asking him, "Are you my son?" without marrying the boy's mother. Then he has the nerve to ask her for another child? And the relationship between Denise and Brock was forced. She was a strong woman, and I commend Tyree for that, but I felt that she still tried to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders, and not even the strongest of us can handle that. I felt the same about Tyree's previous works, including Flyy Girl, which I was left in a state of confusion after I read it. There was no explaining the drive of the characters. But he gets better with each book, and next time, I am sure he will get it right.

Summary: TOO slow of a read
Review: Although the book kept me turning the page to see what was next, I felt it was a very slow read and more so a book about single dads. I did feel the contents were realistic but I just didn't see the story from a "single mom" perspective. The worst part of the book was not only Kim who did drugs while her 6 year old son was asleep, but JD living with Kim in an "unwed" situation. I also didn't agree with JD wanting Kim to have another baby for him and not askingfor her hand in marriage. The story was very real, I just couldn't recommend the book to anyone as a "you must read" title.
