Rating: Summary: I LOVE IT Review: I LOVE IT BECAUSE I THINK THAT IT TRUELY EXPRESSES WHAT A BLACK SINGLE MOM WITH THE MIND TO DO SOMETHING AND THINKS THAT SHE IS GOING TO ACHIEVE A GOAL CAN ACCOMPLISH WHAT SHE WANTS. THINK THAT MOTHERS WHO ARE DISCOURAGED SHOULD READ THIS BOOK BUT HAY IM ONLY A FIFTEN YEAR OLD GIRL
Rating: Summary: Good writing, but... Review: Omar Tyree is a gifted and talented writer, there is no doubt. There is a lot of hype behind his name. My only problem with this particular novel is that I found it entirely too long. It was extremely boring and it took me over a year to read it. No matter how bad something is, if I put my money into it, I'll get through it. As the owner of "Sweet St Louis", "Flyy Girl", and "For the Love of Money" by default (I bought them all based on what I heard about Tyree as a writer), I can only pray that I won't be bored to tears once more. Anything else I get will not be purchased, but borrowed.
Rating: Summary: Sadly Dissapointed Review: I was greatly dissapointed while reading this book. Any book that i put my hands on and is good i can finish it in one sitting. So for this book it took a MONTH. I'm not sure what omar tyree was thinking when he wasted all the trees that he used to print his boring story on paper, but i can tell you that it wasn't a good choice. I'm not sure if he meant for the book to move so slowly, or if it was by mistake. I guess only single mothers can relate to this dissapointment, but i sure do know that i couldn't.
Rating: Summary: An Excellant Read Review: Omarr Tyree is a very unique writer. I love the way he told the story from different points of view. There were four people and each got a chance to tell the story the way they felt about it. There were real life situations and surprises which made the book seem real.
Rating: Summary: Much love and Praise Review: I love the book. It was recommended to me by a friend of mine who read "Fly Girl". I went to the library to check THAT book out, but ended up with "single Mom". I have no regrets. I love the fact that the book is so real. I like how it was written from every point of view, giving you a better understanding of the situation. Im on my way to the bookstore right now. and, I'll be looking for more books to come. . . . . .
Rating: Summary: A decent book Review: I just finished reading this book today on my lunch break and it was alright. I like how the fathers decide to get involved in their sons lives after so many years of not getting be there. I like how the story was told from 4 different characters point of view and a different variety of characters were also involve. This story can be a bit preachy at times with that "I'm a strong black woman..." hoopla and Denise and Cameilla can be bit of two-goody two shoes at times but I guess they had their personal reasons. This story shows that there are a few good fathers out there that are not aren't involved with the mother and that it's never too late to start over. The end leaves you hanging a bit though because they never got to the part were Denise and Brock get married but a the same time I guess Denise wouldn't be "Single Mom" which is what title states. END.
Rating: Summary: "SINGLE"d out. Review: Omar Tyree's SINGLE MOM was quite lengthy, and at times, preachy, but the characters were fleshed out enough to make the novel plausable and hopeful for wanting better for ourselves and our loved ones. Denise is a single mom of two sons from different fathers who beat the odds and now has a sucessful career, and still she is missing something from her life. This is where Brock comes in, who fills that gap and also opens his own heart to accepting something he never considered-the already made family. J.D., Denise first husband, lack a moral fiber to want to hang in there and is now returning after a stint in prison to reconnect with his teen-aged son through the only thing that they have in common...basketball. Walter Jr. is Denise's fling which produces her second son, Walter III, and is severly ego-oriented, which grinds Denise's nerves and alienates his son. Place in Denise's overwrought mother, selfish sister, and over-burdened best friend, and you have a book that is stronger than most on the shelves at this moment. Good Work, Omar!
Rating: Summary: It was okay Review: I'm a single mom and I don't think Mr. Tyree hit the marker with me, there is alot more to being a single mom than worrying about a man.
Rating: Summary: Hated It Review: I really did'nt like this book, maybe because I'm still young so I could'nt relate to anything in this book. I tried to finish this one but just could'nt. At around page 220 I had to stop, this book was so slow and dragged out.I have like a little libary in my house, and when people ask me "who's a good author?" I never say "Omar Tyree"
Rating: Summary: Quite Uplifting!!!!! Review: I just recently finished the book and thought that it was wonderful. I thought the book was Quite Uplifting for single parents everywhere, because no matter what was going on Denise "Neecie" Stewart always kept her head up. She was quite determined not to let anything stop her, or get in her way. I also think that men can benefit from the book because it brings up the fatherhood togetherness issue, and gives you the back end of how women feel on some issues. Even though I am not a single mother I could relate to this book, having being raised by one.. Check out the book when you have a chance, somehow I don't think you will be disappointed.......
