Rating: Summary: A New Twist; A New Classic Review: This book introduced some new perspectived on interracial relationships. But that's not all. It's simply a great book! I was very engrossed in the story, and felt as if I were myself a part of the book. I felt all of her emotions. A must read.
Rating: Summary: To Love Yourself Review: This book was a short, powerful read! The author does an incredible job of describing how each character in the book is feeling and thinking. Each chapter tells a story of that particular character and what is going on inside their head. Everything is nicely put together and had an ending I honestly wasn't expecting!!! I thought that in the end Mingus would have''well, guess you would have to buy the book. I'm not giving any secrets of this novel away. My only complaint is it left me wanting to know more about how things would be in the future choices'

Rating: Summary: MINGUS WAS N'T RESURRECTED Review: THIS BOOK WAS AN EASY READ BUT TO ME IT LEFT TOO MANY LOOSE ENDS. THERE WAS NO FINALIZATION FOR MINGUS AND HER BOYFRIEND,HER SISTER AND MINGUS OR EVEN IF HER MOM ACTUALLY GOT BACK WITH HER FAMILY. I ALSO WOULD HAVE LIKED TO KNOW A BIT MORE E ABOUT SOME OF THE CHARACTERS AND THEIR SITUATIONS.
Rating: Summary: A Good Read! Review: This book was recommended to me by a friend aand he was right. Adams has done an excellent job of describing the heartache of divorce for an interracial couple. Mingus reminded me of so many of my friends who were at one point or another faced with a boyfriend or lover who decided to leave without the good sense to say that it was over. Next, you add family problems. Total Drama! Yet, at some point, you have to pick yourself up and move on with life. The Browning family had to deal with a family that was built on lies. As a result, everything they tried to build after was difficult. Mingus and her sister, Eva, had to learn to accept each other, their parents and themselves. The ending of the book was a total surprise. I truely enjoyed this book. Peace and Blessings!!
Rating: Summary: Powerful Review: This debut novel from Jenoyne Adams is very powerful. It exposed the emotions of bi-racial children as children and as adults. My understanding of children of a bi-racial union was increased through the reading of this novel. I never realized how truly hard it must be at times to be a product of that type of environment. Add divorce to the mix and you have a pot full of mixed emotions. Each child was a best friend with one parent and disrespected the other for reasons all their own and understandably so. Mingus was gem in that she cared more for others and their feelings than her own; even her "evil, jealous and pitful" sister, Eva. Each character had a voice and a reasoning behind their madness. Ms. Adams words are written very eloquently and they flow through the pages to help you understand and picture the characters' fears and hurts. This novel was very, very good. I finished hoping that Mingus found true happiness with herself. I felt sorry for Mingus because she truly had everyones best interest at heart with the exception of her own. This novel demonstrated rediscovery of self. POWERFUL!
Rating: Summary: excellent Review: This novel left me speechless. I can't believe that this is Mrs. Adams debut novel. The story was beautifully written, and I enjoyed the journey that Mingus, Eva, and their parents took me on. This novel deserves more than five stars, and Mrs. Adams has proven that she will be in the literary field a long time. Keep up the excellent work.
Rating: Summary: Interesting Read Surreal and Eye Opening Review: This was an interesting book and story to read. Resurrecting Mingus is an eye opener book and is so surreal in many ways. This book deals with interracial dating and marriage. It also deals with hatred, lack of communication, sibling rivarly and ultimately dishonesty and mistrust. Mingus Browning and her family have more drama than a little bit. She has to deal with a jealous sister name Eva. Her parents Carl(Black) and her mother Ellie(Irish)start the ball rounding with their separation and none of their lives will ever be the same. Then there's Glenda and Eric who add a bit of their own drama to the gumbo pot. What this book reveals and teaches you along the way, is unforgettable in more ways than one. It also allows you to see how secrets and lies can and will destroy all that you have and have worked so hard for.If you want drama, then this book will surely give it to you.
Rating: Summary: Arise Dear Mingus, Arise... Review: This was DEFINITELY one of the better reads I had this year. The writing was fresh and vibrant. The way she allowed different characters to contribute their perspective to the story was very intelligent and real. Each character brought just enough to the table to keep them relevant and prevent the story from going off course. And the relationships were dealt with in an exceptional fashion. I guess we all have issues, make different choices and live by them, and Resurrecting Mingus takes us through all of those phases during a tough set of situations in a way that makes you not want to put the book down. With the exception of page 219, I'd have to say this novel was nearly flawless. Relationships, race, sex, family, achievement are all dealt with in a thoughtful and compelling way. It was fun, deep, pleasant to read and with enough emotional demand to keep a reader involved. Can't wait to read more from Ms. Adams!
Rating: Summary: Finally a story that isn't like all the others Review: This was my first book written by Ms. Adams, and I have to say that I like her writing style. The book caught my eye from the first page up until the last. When Mingus cried, I wanted to cry. The whole situation with her mother trapping her father into marrying her was messed up. The situation where she had a little sister because her father cheated was even more messed up. Her relationship with her sister also was a problem, but the situation that takes the cake is when her sister and her boyfriend have an affair. I know they didn't have sex, but still. He cheated, even thought not intentionally, and her sister, her flesh and blood, did that to hurt her. I felt Mingus was really strong in the end. It seems that she finally had her head on right and was going to start looking after herself. And that's always good to read about. All in all, the book was an excellent read.
