Summary: This book was sooooo good!
Review: I haven't read a book this good in a long time! It was different from any other book I have ever read. I started reading it and couldn't put it down! I took it everywhere with me--work, school, to the salon and even fell alseep with in my hand every night. I HIGHLY recommend this book! You'll love it from the first page to the last!

To the author, you must write another one...possibly a sequel to this one! You are now on my favorite author list.

P.S. I hated Eva. Glad I don't have a sister like her!

Summary: Well Written and a Good Read
Review: I liked 'Resurrecting Mingus' because I am glad that the characters were true to themselves. Elaine, Carl, Eva and even Glenda were true. This story had a lot of real life to it and it didn't seem totally fictionalized. There were some plots to the story that would have made it a tad bit more interesting, like if Mingus and Steve had actually had a realtionship. This considering that Mingus' parents were going through similar interracial problems. Mingus appeared to have a lot of problems with relationships, especially her family and I was happy to see that she was dealing with them by the end of the story. I would have like to have seen how the situation turned out with Eva and Mingus or even Mingus and her mother, but it probably better left to the imagination. Good read.

Summary: My first time reading this author
Review: I read it but like Sela Bed didn't really remember the story, just thought it was kind of interesting but not not a memorable book.

Summary: Delicious...
Review: I read this book in its entirety in about 3 nights. Although I am not biracial, as a single woman in her early 30's I saw myself in many of Mingus' thoughts and actions. The writing flows like lyrics in a song, and at times her thoughts mirrored mine so much, I had to laugh out loud. A very enjoyable read. I can't wait for her next book.

Summary: Good read
Review: I really enjoyed reading Resurrecting Mingus. Throughout the book I could feel every emotion that the characters were going through. The only thing that bothered me in the book was Mingus's constant reference to her period. I found it quite distracting at times that the author would put so much emphasis on describing the character's period in such great details. The ending could have been different but it didn't take too much away from the story since it was so well written and interesting.

Summary: Wonderful reading
Review: I spent the afternoon reading this wonderful book. There is nothing compared to the pleasure of reading a good book. Its like sitting down with an old friend. I certianly felt like the characters in this book were telling the truth of thier stories to a friend. I especially enjoyed seeing Mingus live through her pain and come out on the other side. Wonderful reading. I look forward to more work from this author.

Summary: Captivating
Review: I started to read this book with no knowledge of the author or story.. and what a story it was. I could not wait to finish cooking dinner for my family and continue reading the book.
I thought Mingus was quite an interesting character.. strong on the outside and very vulnerable on the inside. Even more interesting character was her sister, Eva. I haven't disliked a character in a storyline since "JR" of "Dallas"
On a final note, I was really hoping for a different ending..maybe in a sequel??

Summary: Not bad for the first time
Review: I was already anticipating this novel because I read Rasing Fences. So I was all ready for this to blow me away, with them being married and all.I won't say I was dissapointed with the book I just expected more depth or more expression of her emotions to everything that happend in her life.More drama. It was just a good book. The was she discribes the thoughts that women have I could relate to that. I also liked the smoothness of Mingus' boyfriend,Eric. He was the only character that you really could see into his personality. All of the rest were just people in a story to me.

Summary: 3 Stars Because I finished it in two days...
Review: I was looking forward to this book. I had never heard of the author, but I do enjoy reading books by new authors. Resurrecting Mingus was a complete letdown. Like others have said, loose ends ruined this book for me. The way she hooked up with that guy was too bogus for me...seemed like the author just wanted her to end up with a black man. I didn't see how he was better for her than the white officer. I actually was hoping that something would come out of that moreso than with the black guy.

I just finished reading this book two days ago, but it is easily forgettable. This book was a debut, so hopefully the second time around will be better.
