Summary: I'll buy the next "Shadow" book too...
Review: Kay Hooper is a new favorite author for me. Her style of writing is easy to read but with enough substance and suspense to keep you interested.

Hiding in the Shadows is an easy read about Faith who wakes up from a coma with amnesia. She learns from the doctor that she has only one friend that has visited her in the hospital and has provided for her once she leaves, but now that friend is missing. Faith is cast out into the dangerous city of Atlanta by herself, but due to mayhem, that doesn't last for long. Faith & Kane are trying to find Dinah before it's too late. I really enjoyed the mystery and suspense in the book. The psychic content is very intriguing. However, the ending could have stopped at one point, but kept going. It was totally different and leaves you thinking. In my opinion, it wasn't as good as Stealing Shadows, but definately worth reading. Now I can't wait until her next book is released.

Summary: it has its moments, but end is unsatisfying
Review: Kay Hooper sets up an intriguing mystery, but somehow this book seemed like it was written in a rush, with such an abrupt ending it left me feeling unsatisfied. I never really believed the Dinah character--too good to be true, with endless millions at her disposal for distribution among the needy. Faith and Kane aren't very interesting and their dialogue is flat. Faith is irritating because she keeps things to herself which she should tell at once, and Kane must never have had any communication with Dinah other than in the sack, because he doesn't have a clue about her private life, yet they were together six months. The most interesting character is Noah Bishop, but he's not in the book enough. Another thing that bothered me about the book is the lack of description. It takes place in Atlanta, but it could be anywhere. Characters and settings are just given perfunctory descriptions. The book isn't really suspenseful until the very end, but then we're left with no real explanation of what this big conspiracy was, and no confrontation with the bad guys. In fact, when the culprit is finally revealed, it is a surprise because I didn't even remember the character! I did feel cheated by the end, simply because of the big build-up. I expected something more. It was all wrapped up with very little explanation in just a few pages. This is a very fast read. A month from now I probably won't remember anything about it.

Summary: Highly recommend
Review: Ms. Hooper's "shadow" books are some of the best psychic mysteries around. They are more credible than most. I enjoyed them all thoroughly and if you like one, you will like them all.

Summary: A Hypnotic Read
Review: Once I started reading this book i didn't want to put it down. This was hypnotic book, suspensful, terrifying and just an excellent read. Kay Hooper is an excellent author!

Summary: How many psychics does it take to change a lightbulb?
Review: Or in this case, how many do you need in one novel? This one had three, and it was two too many. Hiding suffers from only average writing, one-dimensional characters, and flat, if functional dialogue. The villians weren't particularly compelling, and the solving of the mystery was anti-climatic. But even worse was the treatment of Faith's character at the end. After Ms. Hooper invites the reader to establish an emotional investment in the heroine, she robs the character of her happy ending in a most unsettling, and unbelievable way.

Summary: A Good Read But Slower Than the First Book
Review: The book was about Dinah, Faith, and Dinah's boyfriend, Kane. You follow them through solving the mystery of what happened to Dinah and why. Dinah watched over her friend when she was in a coma but after Dinah turns up missing, Faith recovers from the coma without her memories. Danger lurks. Faith starts believing she has a limited psychic connection to Dinah. She and Kane use her visions and Dinah's voice in her head to slowly uncover what happened to Dinah and why. The villian aspect was downplayed and the ending was a suprise twist for the two friends which made me think of The Sixth Sense. This book can be read on it's own without reading the first. Noah, a character used in each book, is more of a supporting friend to Kane instead of able to help solve this mystery with his psychic abilities.

Summary: Gripping
Review: The second in the Shadows series, in my opinion, was not as good as the first one. Hiding in the Shadows was gripping and kept you reading, but when I finished the book it was with a let-down feeling. The ending was too far fetched and I think that fact kind of spoiled the book - for me anyway. I would still definitely recommend reading it. Kay Hooper has turned out to be a fantastic author and I hope she keeps writing books like the ones in the Shadow series. I'm looking forward to going home so I can pick up the third book.

Summary: silly pop fiction
Review: There is no need to go into a brief synopsis, as those ahead of me have sketched out the plot. I grabbed this book from the best-seller stand at the grocery -- looking for an easy afternoon read. I did finish the book, but it was just too unbelievable. I simply did not enjoy it. The conversations between people were so hokey and unreal -- no one really talks like that. And the ending was the kicker. At least my local library will benefit from the donation. Also, the Atlanta connection wasn't very strong.
