Rating: Summary: Galvanized at the end! Review: I discovered this book after reading and being intrigued by another title in the series, so I had certain expectations of this one. I was surprised that it didn't match the first in tone or pacing; except for the recurring character of Noah Bishop, the two stories aren't at all related in style.
The narrative was enjoyable if not entirely riveting, but the suspense did gather momentum toward the end. That was good. Then the author pulled the ultimate spooky rabbit out of her hat, and that was great. It actually made me dizzy. It was a marvelous ending that haunted me for days. I couldn't stop browsing back to find references that might presage the final twist.
Of all Hooper's books that I've since read, this is the one I've kept. I think it's her most mature work and the most solid. It stands alone whereas the rest seem increasingly to need propping up from each other. (Whisper Of Evil was just plain sloppy). It is also a refreshing break from the serial killer theme.
Give it a try and if you're paying attention, the ending will offer you a memorable jolt.
Rating: Summary: The Best Yet! Review: I don't often give reviews on books I've read. However, I was shocked by some of the reviews I had been seeing about the "Shadows" and "Evil" trilogies. These books were Wonderful! I couldn't put them down and can't wait for more from Ms. Hooper. They are suspensful (keep you guessing at every turn), they are romantic, and if you like paranormal reads they are unique and refreshing in content. If your looking for a plain old mystery then this is not the book for you. But if you like the unbelievable, romantic, suspense that many authors are trying to move toward, this is the best you will find.
Rating: Summary: A Shadow-Licious-Novel! Review: I had never read Kay Hooper before Stealing Shadows. I was hooked after that first shadowy suspense read! Her stories flow so easily, every word flowing into the other, every character complimenting the next. Hiding In The Shadows was a Superb-A-Listic read! It has twists and turns, then an abrupt about face just when you think you might have the culprit plucked from the pages. I like her psychic suspense voice. She connected Dinah and Faith telepathically to the point that you didn't know where one left off and the other began. It portrayed a psychic connection of two souls that blended to become one.
Rating: Summary: Intriguing, intelligent story Review: I have been a fan of Kay Hooper for many years now. Some may find this jump to psychological suspense a surprise, but considering the story lines of her other novels, the "Shadows" series is simply a more defined step into that genre. While "Stealing Shadows" was a good story, I found myself enjoying "Hiding in the Shadows" so much more. More mystery, less violence. "Stealing Shadows" had me wondering what the next murder was going to be like, while "Hiding" had me really thinking and trying to solve the mystery along with the characters. (And the twist at the end was enjoyable.) The psychic aspect of the stories is well done, and I admit to going into my bookstore after reading "Hiding" and flipping through books on the FBI and psychic abilities. Hooper has come into her own with this almost-but-not-quite trilogy and as I start "Out of the Shadows" I'm anxious to find out about Mr. Calm, Cool, and Collected himself, Noah Bishop.
Rating: Summary: This book should be hidden... Review: I have just finished reading the three books in the 'Shadows' trilogy. While I would rate 'Stealing Shadows' and 'Out of the Shadows' 4 and 5 stars respectively (the last book really was wonderful), I was bitterly disappointed in 'Hiding in the Shadows.' The concept underlying this story was disconcerting and extremely frustrating. Unfortunately, this is all that can be said without revealing the plot twist. My advice to readers of this trilogy is skip this book. The books can be read as stand-alone reads so do that, and leave 'Hidden in the Shadows' hiding.
Rating: Summary: Good Mystery, Not So Great Ending... Review: I liked this book right away. Finding out the connection between Faith and Dinah and about Faith's mysterious past, got me hooked right away. Kane and a larger role for Noah Bishop also added to the interesting characters in this novel. But the "reason" behind what happens in the book was a bit lame, as was the "twist" ending. Won't ruin the surprise for you but I found it a bit of a stretch. All in all though, worth a read.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the rest Review: I loved Stealing Shadows and Out of the Shadows because the suspense and the romance are blended together well, the characters are memorable, and the psychic side of the stories are extremely interesting. The same is true of this story, only this one got a little too weird. With the fusion of Faith and her friend, I got a little creeped out--and I didn't really understand why her boyfriend didn't. The rest of the elements of the story are as marvelous as Kay Hooper's other paranormal suspense works, there is just that one part that twists the whole book.
Rating: Summary: I'm a Kate Hooper fan, but... Review: I really didn't enjoy the ending. Although her endings are alawys a bit mind-blowing, I was really disturbed at how this book ended. I don't want to spoil it, so I'm not going to say why, but suffice to say it was disturbing.
Rating: Summary: Almost made as a soap opera episode Review: I would say that Hiding In the Shadows has a wonderful plot but so much happens to this main character,Faith, that it starts to get kinda cheesey. The trauma that this woman goes through is amazing. Kay Hooper is an amazing writer, but he should really be a tv script writer for soap operas.
Rating: Summary: Yes! Kay Hooper does it again! Review: In this second Shadows novel, "Faith" wakes up from a coma with no idea of who she is. Nothing in her former life seems familiar to her and this is of course explained away by her lengthy coma. The plot thickens as she is asked to explain a friendship with a missing woman she has no memory of. She finds herself flooded with memories that belong to the missing woman and is reluctantly recruited by the woman's lover to help use those memories to find her. Noah from "Stealing Shadows" makes an appearance, which was shorter than I would have liked (hope to read more about HIS story in the future)... but the suspense of this novel, the agonizing search for the missing woman, and the very unusual ending made for a wonderful read!! Hats off to Kay Hooper!
