Rating: Summary: A Mystery Full Of Murder, Mayhem & Blackmail! Review: "Hiding In The Shadows" is the second "Shadows" novel by Kay Hooper, the first being "Stealing Shadows." I felt that "Hiding In The Shadows" was a wonderful read. I finished this novel in two days. The one thing that I love the most about the Shadow series is the psychic and paranormal activity that the author uses in helping to solve the crimes. "Hiding In The Shadows" was a blend of mystery, psychic abilities, and kidnapping. Faith Parker wakes up in a coma and wonders how she got there. She later finds out that she was drugged in her drink and she drove home and crashed. She has lost her memory totally. SHE HAS AMNESIA! She later finds out that Dinah Leighton, her only friend was the only one who visited her in the hospital. When Faith gets out of the hospital, she finds out that Dinah has been kidnapped. Faith must do anything she can do to try and find her only friend and get her own memory back before her old life catches up with her and eventually kills her. The reason why I gave this novel four out of five stars was because I LIKED STEALING SHADOWS better. "Stealing Shadows, "Hiding In The Shadows," and "Out of The Shadows" (coming October 31st) are all wonderful mysteries!
Rating: Summary: A GREAT SUSPENSE NOVEL Review: A terrible accident has left Faith Parker in a coma.Journalist Dinah Leighton is a true friend to Faith, providing her with the love and support she needs during her stay in the hospital, until one day she vanishes without a trace... As Faith comes out of her coma, she will have no memory of the accident, or the best friend that visited her every day in the hospital. While Faith is struggling to regain pieces of her memory, she will have flashes of horrible violence being inflicted upon Dinah. With the help of Dinah's fiance, Kane, and FBI agent Noah Bishop, Faith must stop a horrible monster and save her friend's life before it's too late, and piece together the puzzle of deception and lies that haunt the two women. "Hiding In The Shadows" is a page-turning novel of psychic suspense. At the core of the novel is a mind blowing plot, with enough twists and turns to keep readers on the edge of their seat. Kay Hooper is quickly carving her place among the ranks of bestselling authors in the suspense arena. Nick Gonnella
Rating: Summary: Impossible to put down before the ending Review: Faith Parker administers contracts for the city, but has been placed on extended sick leave, as she lies hospitalized in a deep coma. In spite of little brain activity to barely prove she still lives, a miracle occurs and Faith awakens with no memory of her past including who she is. Not sure how she will live, Faith learns that her best friend, reporter Dinah Leighton, has arranged for her care, paid the bills, and given her six months to adjust. She goes to thank Dinah, who shared a telepathic link with her, but the reporter vanished without a trace shortly after Faith went comatose. Faith begins dreaming about Dinah's boyfriend Kane MacGregor, who she realizes she loves on first sight. She never saw him before she came out of the coma. He wants to help jog her memory. Soon Faith realizes someone wants to silence her. She believes that something she and Dinah uncovered has proven dangerous to the two of them. As Kane tries to protect Faith, he feels guilt because he begins to fall in love with her even as he worries and still loves Dinah. The telepathic link between Dinah and Faith is much more than it first seems yet the parapsychic abilities do not impede the story line. The odd triangle makes for an interesting plot that is filled with action and emotion that fully brings the reader along for the entire ride. In HIDING IN THE SHADOWS, Kay Hooper makes the unbelievable believable within a tale that will provide much pleasure to fans of New Age romance and romantic suspense. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: A Disappearance of Faith Review: Faith Parker awakens from a coma with no memory of her past. In the effort to regain her memory, Faith stumbles on a conspiracy of blackmail, torture and murder. While in her coma, Faith's friend Dinah, an investigative journalist pursuing a mysterious story, disappears. To figure out her connection to the kidnapping, Faith joins forces with Dinah's boyfriend Kane MacGregor and psychic FBI agent Noah Bishop. Together, these three people use Faith's dreams to try and find Dinah before it's too late. The plot of "Hiding in the Shadows" is an intriguing one, but it falters from too many red herrings and an improbable romance. Only once did I gasp in wonder at a twist in the story, a rarity for a Kay Hooper book. It's clear there's a paranormal aspect to this mystery, but it's muddied by improbable decisions. When the villain is revealed, there is no "ah ha" moment, and no real or evil reason for the whole action to have occurred. Faith is just a bit too predictable as a "help me" heroine. She is continuously described as frail and lost, in constant need of being rescued. In fact, she doesn't develop a backbone until the last three chapters, even though Hooper keeps telling the reader how strong Faith really is. Kane, on the other hand, is clearly suffering from the loss of Dinah. He performs ordinary tasks like eating and sleeping by rote as he searches for his lost love. You can feel his agony on every page, which only makes his sudden passion for Faith so annoying. Bishop jumps in and out of the story and feels more like a shadow himself, rather than a character offering anything substantial to solving the mystery. "Hiding in the Shadows" is a quick read, but not a very satisfying one. The ending leaves the reader hungry -- not for more stories with these characters, but for a meatier tale.
Rating: Summary: Fast Paced Suspense Thriller with a Twist Review: Faith Parker wakes from a coma without her memory. This is a bad thing, because someone is trying to kill her. Could it be because she has glimpses into the memory of her friend, investigative reporter Dinah Leighton who is missing, maybe dead. This book is a fun read, with a surprising twist for an ending. Too surprising for me, too unexpected. Even with the reappearance of Noah Bishop from the last book, the tight writing and believable characters we care about (maybe too much in Faith's case), that ending cost it a star in my book. Still four stars is very respectable and I can heartily recommend this craftily written paranormal, suspense thriller. Review Submitted by Captain Katie Osborne
Rating: Summary: Good writing, but strange ending. Review: Faith Parker woke after 6 weeks in a coma to find her memory wiped clean, leaving erotic dreams of a man she doesn't know. A woman who visited her regularly, reporter Dinah Leighton, disappeared shortly before Faith came out of her coma. Now Faith is having flashes of connection with the missing woman and trying to help Dinah's almost fiance, Kane MacGregor, find her. As time passes, Kane must fight his attraction to Faith. That is as far as I can go in describing the plot without giving away key moments. As usual with Hooper, the characterization and writing is exquisite. The ending was, to me, unacceptable. We are given a woman who is surviving horrible events in her life and is in reach of happiness, only to have it snatched away in a manner used in some time-travel romances. More information about FBI agent Bishop is welcome, making the wait for his story somewhat bearable.
Rating: Summary: For Effort Alone I've Given This Book Three Stars! Review: For effort alone I've given this book three stars otherwise this book was a rather large letdown. This book is the second in her "Shadow series" and so far as been my least favorite.
What's the problem you ask yourself? Well, it's simple. This story had too much. Plenty of red herrings to stear the reader in wrong directions but at the same time this had a "de-railing" factor for this reader. Perhaps it's because this is more of a consipracy theory type storyline instead of the serial killer storyline that I'm used to with this author she changed gears. This is great from the creative few-point but...
Characters were another problem with this read. Faith was to put it bluntly an annoying character. Perhaps this was due to her description from the author...fragile...helpless. Eventually she does manage to put together an attitude but for this reader it was a little to late. Kane was another annoying character. So in love with Dinah but soon so in love with Faith. Okay...sure.
All in all by the time we get to the ending and the bad guy is unveiled it's not a huge surprise and to be honest I got to a point where I didn't care. This story did have potential but I feel that Ms. Hooper was just off her game when she was penning this story. Noah Bishop is included but not as often as I would have liked to have seen. I look forward to the next and last in the series and suggest that yes, pick up this read but come with much lower expectations.

Rating: Summary: Not the conspiracy story it seemed, which is a good thing Review: For some reason or another I have never liked conspiracy stories, specially involving politicians or people in high places. When I started reading this novel I thought I was getting into one of those. Luckily, as the story moved on, other elements began to take things on a slightly different direction. Hiding... is the second psychic thriller in the Shadows trillogy. Once again you have a woman with psychic abilities, fragile, tormented by her gift who finds a man that reluctantly believes in her and inevitably falls in love with her. However this one does not involve a serial killer but some sort of conspiracy which somehow involves all the characters. I was glad to see the psychic element superimposed itself above the conspiracy thing and at some point above the romantic storyline. Again expect surprises and a fast read maybe faster than Stealing... though I liked the first book better. Still all my bets are on book 3 which I just started this morning.
Rating: Summary: A Thrilling Read That Will Hold You Captive! Review: Hiding In The Shadows by gifted writer Kay Hooper is a thrilling mystery that will hold the reader captive until after the final page has been read!
Rating: Summary: Can't believe this book is so popular Review: I can not believe that so many of these reviews are positive. I had to read this book for my book club, or I would have stopped reading in the first 50 pages. The fact that it was an easy read and could be finished in a couple of days was its only redeeming quality. The characters were the same characters you'll find in any other airport novel. I think that the author was really reaching throughout the entire book to give them more dynamic personalities, but in my opinion fell short. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, and I have a whole bookclub of people who would agree. Instead of discussing this book, we spent the whole meeting trying to come up with future books and kidding the woman who chose this one everytime she suggested another.
