Rating: Summary: Oh Please... Review: I remember being hesitant about this book because it was a christian book, but with the urging of a good friend, I read it, I remember from the begining of this book thinking why would a woman write a book making women look like such fools..I believe in forgiveness and standing by your man when he needs help or support, but where was Jake's support for his wife Tori? She lost a child too, she caught her husband in bed with his business partner....his initial plan to try to get forgiveness from his wife ended with his child dying.. So he is so devestated he leaves......Doesn't say anything, doesn't attend his on childs funeral, but does keep in contact with the business partner he slept with...now thats a slap in the face...and all Tori does is think of how she has to find him and make sure he is ok...when it is so clear he didn't think to do the same for her.. You know to see if she was ok...I dont know, I guess its just me, but I thought this book was more about women having little self respect in themselves than forgiveness. And since this book I have not picked up another christian book since.....
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This book was so good. I read it in one day because I couldn't put it down. The story line is so unthinkable for me a married woman for less than a year. I consider myself a Christian but I pray God doesn't test my faith that way because I seriously doubt I can do. Tory was so real to me. She had her feelings about the situation but she really loved her husband. I mean real unconditional love. And she displayed true virtuous characteristics that I pray one day I will have. I know it was just a fiction book but I was so wrapped up in their world it was amazing. And that dang Sheila. I wanted to slap her and Jake (Tory's husband). Sheila because she was a crazy, selfish unconsiderate woman. And Jake because he was blind. This book is a must read. I want to know the woman who can tolerate what Tory did and maintain her walk without anger, hurt and grdge holding.
Rating: Summary: Renewed Strength in Love Review: This book was so magnificent. It was worthy of so many more stars. I loved it from beginning to end. The power of the fate that she has in God, her love, this book is a definition of what a marriage should be. Anyone looking to feel refreshed should read this book. Steps of a good man are pledged through God; Jake learned that lesson eventually.
Rating: Summary: superb/fantastic./astonishing/idiom Review: From the moment that I started reading The Prodigal Husband,It keep my full undivided attention. All I have to say about this book is, that Sheila is a cunning, conniving, vindictive, hell of a women........Whom I would love to see on the street so I could run over her with a Mac Truck...All jokes aside. I really loved the book...
Rating: Summary: Unconditional Faith Review: Jake and Tori Madison have a wonderful marriage until Jake is caught in bed with his business partner, Sheila. Sheila, who has always been in love with Jake, planned to seduced Jake and have Tori catch them in the act. Devastated, Tori packs up their daughter and they move into her mother's house.Jake is determined to fix things in their marriage, but when their daughter is fatally injured in a tragic accident he is unable to handle the guilt. Jake runs away, fleeing the country. The only person who knows his whereabouts is Sheila. Jake keeps abreast of the happenings of his business and family through her. Since Sheila is determined to make Jake hers, she won't let Tori or anyone else know what is going on with him. During his absence, Tori makes major changes within herself and although she still loves Jake, she knows she must move on. After a year of isolation, Jake feels it is time to return home to seek forgiveness. When Jake surprises everyone with his return, Tori has to do some soul searching to see if she can ever forgive Jake and learn to trust him again. Their reconciliation is filled with obstacles that make them both take a second look at themselves and their marriage. The Prodigal Husband, at its core, is a novel about forgiveness and redemption. Although readers may not agree with the character's choices, it will give everyone who picks it up food for thought about their own lives and the impact of their actions on others. The Prodigal Husband is a very good book. With Jacquelin Thomas' romance background, you can feel the romantic undertones in this book. I am looking forward to reading more from her in the Christian Fiction genre. Tina R.E.A.L. Reviewers
Rating: Summary: Worth the Read Review: this is a so-called "christian" book. for that reason alone i put off reading it. when i finally got around to reading it, i was very surprised and enjoyed reading it. Prodical Husband deals with the pain of forgiveness and regrett. of how men can have the wool pulled over our eyes and be blinded from what we really need to see. Jake (the lead male character) is holding onto the pain of the death of his daughter. he leaves his wife Tori, lost, confused and to mourn the loss of her daughter alone. Jake finds some comfort in the arms of his business partner and friend Sheila....but that doesnt stop him from loving and wanting Tori in his life. when Jake finally returns, he finds a much different Tori than the one he left. she is strongminded and independent....and while she still loves Jake, she doesnt know if he can be trusted. While Jake and Tori are working on getting back together, Sheila (who is in love with Jake) is busy trying to cast a cloud of doubt over the two. there are some lessons to be learned from the book.....forgiveness, communication, love and faith are all things that people in a relationship need
Rating: Summary: Loved the Christian theme..not storyline! Review: I love contemporary African-American novels. Our brothers and sisters have a pletheora of talent when it comes to writing! I love that it had a Christian theme, but the dialogue was not realistic at all. Black people don't react they way the author portrays them. Just doesn't happen. Put the book down severl times and trying to complete...it is hard..too much drivel.
Rating: Summary: Wanted: SHEILA dead or alive! Review: This book is great. The only thing I am going to say is that you will get so wrapped up in the characters. One character in the novel in particular, Ms. Sheila! I am here to tell you if I see her on the streets - she's all mine! Wow! This book gets your emotions going. Happy, sad etc. You will definitely enjoy this one I promise. In the past I'd give Iyanla's books as gifts for special occassions, well, move over Iyanla: Jacquelin Thomas is definitely in "The House". This is a terrific read!
Rating: Summary: Great Great Great! Review: All I would like to say is that I read this book in one day could not put it down - a page turner indeed. This one is for my collection and there are no words to explain how much I enjoyed this book.
Rating: Summary: The Prodigal Husband Review: I could not put this book down. I found myself hurrying home to read so that I could find out happened to each character next. It was a pleasure to spend time with these characters. It was even better to be able to pray between situations. I was reminded that all is never lost as long as there is a Loving Father like the one we share alive and caring for us. I applaud Ms. Thomas for her ability to be a contemporary Christian that can exist, function and produce such wonderful writing and never let the reader forget that she knows that God is her source. I loved it!
