Rating: Summary: No Child of God Review: Wow , What can I say . Child of God was certainly No Child of God. No Child of God could have been a better title for this novel . I know All of us have issues and baggage in our life, but this was a story that went beyond my imagination. I have never read anything quite like this one. No where did I find a Chid of God in this dysfunctional family. The secrets untold and the things that were told surely takes functional out of this dysfunctional family. This is one story that will certainly keep your attention. Lolita, Lolita, You have the making of a great movie and I'd like to see this one make it to the big screen or a made for t.v. movie.
Rating: Summary: CHILD OF GOD Review: OH-MY-GOSH!!!! Now this was a BOOK!!!!! I absolutely loved this book. I have never read a book so fast. It was everything a good book needs to be: Thrilling, Exciting, Mysterious and Loving.
Rating: Summary: Lolita Files Moves Away From Typical Stuff! Review: Lolita Files has written a story that really caught me off guard. I wasn't even sure what I expected but this wasn't it! In any case, this book captivated me from the beginning until the end and I found myself flipping back pages, from time to time, just to make sure I was keeping all of these characters/generations straight! Lolita Files has written a bold and daring book that covers all sorts of family secrets. Ms. Files has earned my praises not just for writing an amazing story, but for hopefully setting a new trend. I personally would like to see other writers like herself get away from the usual and typical writing about 2-4 friends who have drama, drama, DRAMA in their lives. The market is saturated with too much of this type of book and I found Child Of God refreshing to read as well as original. I hadn't read a book by Lolita Files since Scenes From A Sistah but Child Of God is definitely great stuff. Get this one and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: overkill Review: Take rape, incest, homosexuality, gossip, and general nastiness and force it all into one book with one set of tortured characters then you'd have Child of God. It was just too much misery and too much plot. This has to be the most depressing thing I've read all year.
Rating: Summary: Storytelling at its best!! Review: Ms. Files has outdone herself with this one! After reading her previous works, (which were marvelous too), she has taken a complete turn from her typical "girl-guy relationships story plot" and presented us with a powerful story of several family generations and their secrets, leaving no stone unturned in the process: incest, murder, voodoo, homosexuality, and much much more. A definate page-turner, I couldn't put this one down until I was finished!
Rating: Summary: Ooh, Ooh Child! Review: "Child of God" is the hottest, twisted, and most supspenseful piece of drama I've ever SEEN. Lolita Files is such an artist because she skillfully paints each character with her words. You will SEE their expressions, HEAR their cries, FEEL their passions, and even SMELL the scents that accompany them."Child of God" is a page turner that will leave your mouth open, your eyes bucked, and your curiosity satisfied. No stone is left unturned as Horatio reveals all the secrets of his family to his fiance, Adina. As the drama unfolds... and there's LOTS of it, you will feel that you have taken a rollercoaster ride when your emotions have you laughing, screaming, crying and rejoicing with the Boten family. "Child of God" is very intense in its drama... filled with intrigue, suspense, and passion that will keep you glued to the pages wanting more. Only a child of God could write with such fire and creativity, holding the reader captive... under her spell. This is an excellent read.
Rating: Summary: Kudos Are in Order Review: Kudos to Lolita for her daring! Daring to do something different and challenging with her work, not willing to settle for the comfort of something familiar. "Child of God," is a complex, compelling and often dark story, but always leaving the reader with the feeling of hope. Taking a classic such as Hamlet, and superimposing it on modern times was no easy feat. Lolita rises to the task. I hope that she continues to stretch herself, her skills as a writer and our imaginations as readers! Continued success to you Lo!
Rating: Summary: Oh my gosh!!! Review: I am amazed this book was actually published. I am further amazed the title has the word God in it while the contents of the book is horrible. The writing style reminds me of J. California Cooper, but the content is far from it. There is barely a minute of happiness in this book. Not all books should be filled with blue clouds, sunshine and happy faces, but this was ridiculous. This book is filled with nothing but murders, suicides, incest, drugs, prostitution and the like. This was definitely a departure for Ms. Files. If you think "A Child of God" is about anything that would please God, DO NOT buy this book.
Rating: Summary: BRAVO LOLITA!! Review: This novel was off the hook. I believe this is Lolita Files best work yet. I was captivated from the very first chapter and could not put the book down. It contained incest, murder, drug addiction, prostitution, betrayal and also touching somewhat on supernatural forces. I can't wait for the next novel. This deserves more than just 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Review: I am so upset with myself for not picking this book up a long time ago. It was so interesting and well written. The writing style seem very different from the other books Ms. Files has written. I truly enjoyed this, and nothing has kept my attention like this since "The Coldest Winter Ever" by Sister Souljah. Great job Lolita!!
