Rating: Summary: superb Review: THIS BOOK WAS SIMPLY AMAZING.. I READ SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWS AND DECIDED TO GET THIS BOOK.. I WAS SO, SO PLEASED THAT I DID, THIS BOOK IS ALL THAT AND THEN SOME. THE CHARACTERS WERE GREAT, THE STORY LINE WAS TERRIFIC.. IT ACTUALLY SEEMED LIKE THE ONES WHO DESERVED IT, GOT WHAT THEY HAD COMING. THEN THERE WERE THE INNOCENTS WHO GOT IT ALSO, WHO DID NOT DESERVE IT.. I READ THIS BOOK IN A DAY, IT IS A CONSTANT PAGE TURNER, ONE YOU DON'T WANT TO PUT DOWN.. IF YOU ARE THINKING OF GETTING THIS BOOK, PLEASE DO!!!THEN YOU WILL WANT TO PASS IT ON TO A FRIEND. LOLITA FILES, I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE COOKING NEXT, THIS AUTHOR IS NOW ADDED TO MY LIST OF AUTHORS WHO I CAN BUY THE BOOK, WITHOUT EVEN READING WHAT THE STORY IS ABOUT. THAT IS JUST HOW GOOD THIS BOOK WAS.
Rating: Summary: Nothing like her other books.... Review: I've read three of Lolita Files' other books and this one is NOTHING like them.... I didn't care for the subject matter at all. In this novel, Files' attempts to make a romance novel about incist. The story lines jumps from one horrible scene to the next... In all fairness, the book is written very well, but again the topic is disgusting.
Rating: Summary: Incestuous Review: This is an excellent book. This family had too many secrets. Sad, tragic, incestuous, twisted, and sadistic but it is a great book. I thought I would get sick from reading a story about incest. It's such a taboo subject. It's was skillfully written. This book was a bit different from her other writings. She's a talented writter. Looking foward to reading her next book.
Rating: Summary: TRAGIC, BUT SUPERBLY TOLD! Review: Child of God is definitely not your run of the mill novel of this day and age; and the Boten Family are not your typical-average family next door. The Boten Family is a family full of skeletons (in every way imaginable and unimaginable)and Lolita Files, has wrote a story with so much depth and clarity for such COMPLEX issues. Ms. Files has earned my respect as a BONA FIDE writer with this one. You get a little bit of everything in this hellacious read ranging from voodoo-murders-homosexuality-incest. It's a very hard story in the sense of it's issues, but it's so well crafted and superbly written you can not put it down. I've read Scenes from a Sista, which was a good, light hearted story, but I like a little more UMMPH, Ms. Files read my mind because she gives it up with CHILD OF GOD. You wrote this one Lolita.
Rating: Summary: What? Why? Oh no!!! Review: This style of writing is not Lolita. I didn't particularly care for this story line and I thought that she could have taken this in another direction. But, then again the actual story line was well put together. I just didn't care for it, I like her first 2 books better. Lolita is an excellent author and I figured that she doesn't want to get stuck writing one way. I just didn't care for the story line.
Rating: Summary: A little too much drama for me...but you might like it! Review: I can't really say I didn't like this one...it was okay. It just seemed to me like Ms. Files tried to cram every possible scenario into one book, and it all got a bit overwhelming to me at times. I think I would have liked it better if it had focused more on Ophelia, since she was the most well-developed character in the book. I almost liked Walter, but for his weakness when it came to Sukie. As for Sukie and Lay, they were just too evil to be true, and they both made the story too unbelievable. Overall, this was not a bad novel. It's nothing like Lolita Files other books, which were cute, funny stories but not meant to be anything deep or thought provoking. This one attempts to come off as more literary and serious, but I found it predictable and easy to put aside. I think it just tried to cover too much ground instead of sticking with fewer subjects and characters and exploring them more.
Rating: Summary: A Must Read!!!! Review: The last time I read a book this intense was Sista Souljah's Coldest Winter Ever. This book was more exciting & intriguing. The characters were so real. The family devastaion that continued thoughout this book was incomprehensible. But the truth be told some of us have those kind of skeletons in our past. The Ironic thing is the name of this book.....Child of God...I'd really like to see this book turned into a movie. Though it was extremely sad & some parts just brought me to tears...this is A MUST READ!
Rating: Summary: Tradegy At Its Best Review: If your looking for the traditional happily ever after story book endings, then this book is not for you. However, if you want edge of your seat non-stop drama and outrage, then read "Child of God". COD's story line and characters will take you on an emotional ride of highs and lows. You will learn to hate Sukie and Lay, grieve for Coolie's loss of innocence and rejoice is Ophelia's final salvation. To say the least, COD was a very interesting read.
Rating: Summary: Family Secrets Review: Upon opening Child of God, I didn't know what to expect from Lolita this go around but I tell you she topped her usual work. Talk about skeletons in the closet. While reading this skillful work, I found myself able to picture the characters and feel their expressions. Page after pager I was glued to the edge of my seat wondering what secret would be revealed next. The characters are vivid and interting. A definate page turner that will leave one thinking and talking about Child of God for a long time after the pages are closed. I eagerly await your next release. Much love and best wishes to Lolita.
Rating: Summary: magnificent!!!!! Review: This book Child of God holds you attention from start to finish. You will feel a ton of emotions while reading this book. Some readers have an issue with the title of the book, but we all must remember that we all are God's children no matter what we go through in life and that nobody is perfect. This is a great subject matter and Lolita Files did an excellent job in developing her characters throughout the book. I loved this book it was very hard to put down. Thank you for such a wonderfully told story. Continued success!!!!!!!!!
