Rating: Summary: DEAL WITH ISSUES OR THEY DEAL WITH YOU.... Review: I REALLY THOUGHT I HAD ALREADY WRITTEN MY REVIEW OF LOLITA'S NOVEL "CHILD OF GOD" BUT HAPPENED TO BE BROWSING TODAY AND DON'T SEE IT ON HERE SO I AM RE-WRITING IT. LOLITA JOINED CIRCLE OF FRIENDS BOOK CLUBS IN ATLANTA, GA IN JANUARY 2002 TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DISCUSSION OF "CHILD OF GOD". OVERALL, EVERYONE IN ATTENDANCE REALLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK AND FELT THE ISSUES MENTIONED THEREIN ARE THOSE THAT MOST AUTHORS TEND TO STAY AWAY FROM. I AM OF THE OPINION AND BELIEF THAT IF WE DON'T DEAL WITH ISSUES, THEY HAVE A WAY OF DEALING WITH US". THUSLY, THE STORY INCLUDED SOME VERY DIFFICULT, "HARD TO TALK ABOUT" ISSUES...BUT LOLITA DID AN EXCELLENT JOB OF PUTTING THIS STORY IN A FORM BY WHICH WE COULD ENJOY IT AND IT REALLY MADE PEOPLE THINK! LOLITA, FOR ALL THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS I READ ON HERE.. PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU ARE A TRULY GIFTED WRITER AND EVERYONE HAS THEIR CRITICS...EVEN JESUS DID. KEEP WRITING AND ALLOWING GOD TO USE YOU TO PUT PEN TO PAPER....YOU SHOWED OUT SISTAH!

Rating: Summary: ...couldn't put it down Review: I read this book in one day. I just could not put it down. This is my first book by Files, and I will definitely be getting another one. The story is well developed and defintely a must read! Ms. Files really did her thing on this one!
Rating: Summary: A true page turner!!! Review: Lolita Files out did herself. This book was really, really good. I couldn't put it down. At first there seemed to be too many characters and possibly confusing, but it was written in a simple way that put all the different stories, based on the one secret, together. The book dealt with so many sensitive issues, incest, homosexuality, murder and voodoo. However, it was so detailed and well written that you could visualize the characters and the books different settings. I read this book with my book club and we all enjoyed it tremendously. I would highly recommend this book to those who love suspense and mystery and family dramas.
Rating: Summary: Different Review: Child of God is a strange story dealing with brothers and sisters that love each other a little to much. The book was ok, but I didn't like the subject matter all that much.
Rating: Summary: What a word! Review: Upon starting this read I was a little disturbed by the issues, but well into the book I realized the book had a deep revelation to unfold. I finished the book in four days and I encourage all to find this book, a corner, and the mind of Lolita Files invigorating. Be blessed...
Rating: Summary: Child of God Review: ... Lolita Files takes us down a twisted road of confusion when the characters in her book Child of God journey down dead end streets and decide to set up shop. Amalie, Grace, Walter, Ophelia, Suki, Polo, Lay, Big Daddy, and the others involved with them are wrapped in a quilt of... perversions, insanity, and supernatural nightmares. I found it amazing that Ms. Files managed to sew it all together, yet she did. Each square of the quilt, separate in its on right, yet connected to the whole. I felt inundated with constant symbols of burning in hell, and I knew that I had just been introduced to the residents of the fiery pit. One must asked themselves was their anyone in the novel that was left untouched by an eminent evil? Even the innocent were doomed to embrace a spiritually dysfunctional life and each character seemed to be in his/her own level of purgatory. Going through the pangs of living with these characters left this reader frustrated and exhausted. I found this story to be depressing yet compelling. And though I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning to finish, I found myself never truly being involved with the characters only a mere spectator in their lives. I wanted to know what happened but I didn't particularly care how it was all resolved. I felt that Ms Files expected some leaps to made about some characters and yet in contrast there were other relationships that moved me. Despite what may seem like contradictions in this story I would give it 3 stars and would recommend to those who asked. It was engaging and entertaining. (It had to be because I was up until 1 am). Most of the enjoyment for me in this novel came from the fact that it was just an interesting story with an interesting theme, and interesting characters. Having read all of the Lolita Files novels I can say that Child of God was a complete departure from her previous work. Although I am more of a fan of her first works... I do applaud her for venturing out and doing something different. Reviewed by Kotanya -APOO Bookclub-
Rating: Summary: GOD'S SINFUL CHILDREN Review: Incest, drama, you name it,the book covers it. Someone should have challenged that mean old Sukie long time ago. Lolita did an excellent job in telling this story. The continuous incest was just horrid. However, the way the story flowed, I could not put this book down. I was inquistive and needed to know. Maybe if the parents had informed their children that siblings shared a different kind of love, and not to experiment love or lust with each other, maybe this would have made a difference. I hollered "Oh Lord" so much through this book "He" probably told me to shut up. Grace, Ophelia, Lay, Big Daddy and Sukie held so many secrets. Innocent Grace as a child that only knew a brothers love and my my my, that's when all all the mixing of the blood began. The ending to me was not a new beginning, but I think it started all over again. My Lord!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: A MUST READ !!!!! EXCELLENT, WAY TO GO LOLITA Review: THIS BOOK KEPT ME ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT. I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END!!!! A MUST READ.....
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT!! Review: A sad but very well written story. The authors descriptive detail put me right there in each setting. There are many characters and you must pay careful attention at the beginning, but I must say I was thoroughy impressed how the author tied it all up in the end. I've already recommended it to my friends. GOOD JOB Lolita!!
