Summary: Drama, Drama, and more Drama!
Review: 'Child of God' is not a novel that you see every day. This is the most complex and compelling book I have ever read. Lolita Files introduces us to three generations of the Boten family.

Because of the complexity of this story, it is difficult to give a synopsis. This is like a modern day Hamlet. The issues addressed in the book are incest, homosexuality, suicide, drug addiction, voodoo and more! The Boten family is considered to be the "crazy family" and torment follows this family from Tennessee all the way to Detroit. The stories of Grace, Walter, Sukie, Ophelia, Polo, Coolie, and Lay, will keep you engrossed and turning the pages.

'Child of God' is nothing like her previous works. Lolita Files really shows her talent for the written word with this book. With so many main characters and their lives intertwining the way they do, Lolita did an amazing job with this one. I hope to see more of her talent come through like this in the future.

Summary: Some Serious Drama!
Review: Lolita Files' is back with an edgy and daring new novel titled Child of God'a saga of a Southern family tormented by a legacy of shameful secrets. Files' latest heroine is Ophelia Boten, a young woman who must confront her family's past before she can extinguish the curse that threatens her future.

Set mostly against the backdrop of a small, country town named Downtown, TN, Child of God shows the sordid secrets binding one family over four decades. The story opens with the death of Ophelia's son, baby Hamlet, who is the lone casualty of a mysterious fire. However, the reader quickly discovers that this is the first of many tragedies throughout the book. Similar tragedies that keep repeating over and over throughout the generations. As Files' carefully weaves us forward and backward in time with this family, we discover a multitude of secrets and sins'incest, voodoo, rape, homosexuality, drug addiction, murder and suicides. Before Ophelia can find true love and share it, she must unravel the intricate relationships, mystical ties and forbidden passions that have tormented her family over the years.

Child of God is a fast-paced and suspense-packed read and shows Files ability to tackle different storylines and tell a good story. However, readers looking for more of the sistafriend relationship of Reesy and Misty will be disappointed with Child of God because this is truly a different read and probably more in line with Blind Ambition'albeit a darker story than any of her stories to-date. Child of God is a storyline filled with lots of violence, brutality, tragedy and anguish. The storyline has a Jerry Springish feel and mentality with far-fetch and over-the-top situations that might make some folks want to throw the book against the wall and leave it there. Those who enjoy lots of drama with a soap-operaish type style will love this book. Aside from some of the loose ends such as Lay's behavior and Lay and Sukie's relationship which I never quite understood, I enjoyed the colorful characters, vivid situations, poignant dialogue and riveting storyline. I look forward to future books from Ms. Files.

Summary: Drama with Substance
Review: Most books that I read that have drama are so predictable...this however, is not! It is a must read for readers that desire substance along with their entertainment. You really don't know what is going to happen next and the characters are fully developed. Lolita did her thing with this book, not the usual fluff that I have seen her do previously. Well done Lolita, more books like this and you will become one of my favorite writers.

Summary: Child of God - NOT!
Review: Child of God by Lolita files was an excellent read. Lolita took us to a whole new level in this book, putting aside the "sister-girlfriend" writing style, and showing us that she can also write on a deeper level. She is truly a multi-talented writer.

This novel tells the story of the Boten family, definitely a family like none other. The Boten family deals with the curse of generational incest, drugs, voodoo, and just about anything else you can imagine. Ophelia is the main character who was also once "caught up in the curse", who manages to somehow break this generational curse through much determination and tenacity. One after the other, each person in the family is doomed to something horrible that will happen... There are Ophelia's brothers Lay and Polo; Polo's girlfriend, Coolie; Ophelia's parents Grace and Big Daddy; Ophelia's uncle Walter and evil, mysterious wife Sukie. These are only some of the character, but the main nonetheless.
Definitely get this book and become a part of the wiles and woes that the curse of the Boten family will take you through. This is a must the best of Ms. Files reads to date! I am anxiously looking forward to her next read.

Summary: Powerful, Gripping, Jaw-Dropping Read....
Review: What a powerful and gripping read. Lolita did a wonderful job lending an ear and voice to taboo issues that have plagued families for years. She touches on vodoo, insect, rape and so much more. The book focuses on the Boten clan, a meager family for Downtown, TN. There's Ophelia, Lay and Polo, the children of Big Daddy and Grace and there's also Grace's brother Walter and his evil and miserable wife Sukie. This family experiences more heartache and pain than any family in town should have to bare. The children of the clan seem to be the only ray of hope left to save the family and remove the dark cloud that hangs over them. Will they find peace and happiness? Are they doomed to the same unhappy lives as their ancestors? This book is well worth the read and is great for book clubs too. Though some of the subject matter is taboo, it brings to light what many have and do deal with, not only in the south and during that time era. It sheds light on the pain, lies and heartache that are oftentimes brought about. It also reveals how it can affect the lives of others, you bring into the situation. The book does offers some renewing moments and closure in a sense to some of the drama that unfolds along the way. Good job Lolita.

Summary: Ignorant Inglewood
Review: Are you so ignorant, Inglewood, CA, that books can also be purchased via internet without categorization? As I stated before, this book should be entitled CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL, or more appropriate, "CHILDEN OF SATAN." By the way, there was NO indication that this book wasn't Pro-Christian. I'm not knocking the story. I'm knocking the title. The title should fit the story, which this book deceptively does not! No further comments. That's all I have to say.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Children of the Devil??????
Review: To the reader who made that comment, how ignorant can you possibly be???. Did you not read the inside of the cover to see what the book was about???. Didn't you notice in the first chapter that this wasn't the christian book that you desired???. Come now, don't try to act like you were so surprised that these subject matters were covered, you could have simply put it down.
And by the way christian, are you supposed to speak of your brothers and sisters (who happen to be characters) that way??.

In the future, you may take note that most book stores have religous topics in one area, that way you won't soil your eyes with those terrible characters.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: No Children of God
Review: Where does this title come from? It has nothing to do with the story. I thought this book was going to be about Christians. But to my disappointment, it was about the devil's children. The book should have been titled, "CHILDREN OF THE DEVIL." Not recommended.

Summary: These people have issues!
Review: I read this book in 2 days. What a gripping story! This book is a page turner from Page 1. Child of God takes you through the trials and turmoils of one family over several generations. It will have you feeling every emotion, every heartache, every disappointment felt by the characters. It will have you cheering for the underdogs - Ophelia, Grace, Walter and Coolie - and wanting to kill the bad guys - Lay and Sukie. The story is written in a way that you can actually imagine yourself being there and seeing the events as they unfold. Highly recommended.

Summary: Amazing Amazing Amazing!!!
Review: This was the best book I have ever read. Up until this book my favorite was Coldest Winter Ever, but this book blew that one out the box. This is a must read!!! I am looking forward to reading all her books. Thanks Lolita
