Rating: Summary: I've read it 5 times Review: I am a long time fan of Robin Lee Hatcher's writing and have read every book she's written. But this is by far my favorite of all. I've read it five times and will read it again. What I have always loved best about Robin's writing is her ability to pull a reader instantly into the story. That was certainly true of Ribbon of Years. I am eagerly looking forward to buying a copy of Firstborn as soon as it's released.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!! Review: I couldn't put it down except to cry alot. It was so touching, that I didn't want the story to end. Make me a woman of faith just like Miriam.
Rating: Summary: Historical Fiction - A great brain vacation! Review: I disagree with the last review. This was a very good book. I suppose it depends on your reading purpose. I read for mostly for pure enjoyment. I did enjoy this book. I finished it in a lovely Sunday afternoon & it was great vacation for my brain.
If you are looking for War and Peace then stopping here would dissapoint you. However, if you are looking for a story that takes you back in time to the WWII era, and a story that makes you want to finish the book. Then this is a great afternoon journey to take.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: I know the "couldn't put it down" line is a bit cliche, but it was definitely true about this book. Miriam's story is a wonderful example of how a life of faith can impact others. This book will linger in my mind for a long time to come.

Rating: Summary: Good story.... Review: I must say that although I did enjoy this book, I was also a little disappointed as well. The main character, Miriam, was well defined and I did get caught up in the details of her life. I found myself longing for the kind of faith she had to face what life threw her way. Miriam's story was most enjoyable.I was disappointed that we know so little about Julianna. Why was she at Miriam's house? What is her backstory? Why was she so captivated by Miriam's story & what kind of changes did it make in her life? The book is good, but in this reader's mind, left too many unanswered questions and a desire for more info about Julianna, past and present.

Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!! Review: I thought that this book was moving--at least Miriam's story was. However, the instigator of the story is Julianna and her story is not delved into. I got the impression that this book was written shortly after September 11th, because of the acknowledgements page. It seems to fit, anyway--but it is a nice universal message--what would you do if you could have a "do over"? Miriam's story spans over 60 years, and the story is moved along by a box of items found in her estate sale. Have kleenex nearby, as some of the emotions are so raw, you cannot help but be touched by them. This is the story not only of her life, but also her journey with God. I would recommend this book, and I will have to find more books that she has written.

Rating: Summary: An okay read - nothing special Review: I'm sorry to disagree with the other two reviewers, but I really didn't find Robin Lee Hatcher's latest book to be that great. It did hold my interest enough for me to finish it in a couple of days, but I guess I was expecting more. The author uses the technique of interspersing present-time segments (very brief - usually only a page or so) with longer sections that were being told to Julianna by Miriam's old boyfriend from her early years. The sections each come out of an object taken out of a box of memories. I would've liked to have seen more development of the present-day character, Julianna. The story would've been much more compelling if we knew more about her life, and how it was being influenced by what she was hearing about Miriam's life. And I thought that the end was just a bit too predictable and a bit too tidy. At the end of the book, there is the Prologue and the first chapter of the book that Mrs. Hatcher is writing which will be published during Summer 2002. I love to read, and I read mostly non-fiction - I'm careful how I "spend" my reading minutes. In Christian fiction, I'm looking for something a bit deeper than just a nice story. I'm not saying that this book is shallow, but maybe I'm pickier than the typical Christian fiction reader. You might be interested in my reviews of other Christian books and music!
