Rating: Summary: The truth Review: I didn't really know what to expect of this book just that it was about a beauty shop. When I read the first line i was shocked the author was talking about the area that I live in, right on the corner. So, I immediatly started to wonder which shop she was talking about. When I finaly got to sit down and really read it I couldn't put the book down. The book told THE TRUTH. How there is a lot of gossip and back stabbing that goes on in the shop and also how we can all pull together when someone is in trouble. This book dealt with real life situations that touched me to the bone. I'm a Child Development major and it made all sorts of emotions appear when all the situations concerning the children arose. Ms. Sheneska Jackson thank you for giving me something to enjoy and think about when I had nothing to do. P.S. i'm going to find out which salon you were talking about, and I love the name. Blessings, Naomi
Rating: Summary: uhmp.... uhmp.... uhmp.... Review: that is all that i can say! this book was wonderful! i loved it.. loved it.. loved it.. after i finished reading lil mamas rules, i didn't think that blessings would compare seeing as the topic was about the beauty shop... but was i totally wrong! the way that she described the lives of Pay, Faye, Zuma, and Sandy were very believable. she explored the different trials and tribulations of parenting with such fevor. I recommend this book to EVERYONE. i read other people's reviews to see what they thought after i read the book... and i agree that i kept waiting for the book to tell me that Sandy was arrested, but although this is ficition, it is reflective of real life and things don't always go the way we want them to. But in all, I was so sad the book ended it left me with the feeling of More, More, More...i just love Ms. Jackson's work. She is GREAT! I think that i have found my favorite author.
Rating: Summary: Ms. Jackson if you Nasty!! Review: My girl knows how to write a book that you just don't want to put down! i loved this book. i found myself cussin, crying, laughing, the whole nine. Tell me you didn't want to SMACK Faye's daughter in the mouth, and Sandy done lost her mind over a man that don't even want her and Pat *shaking my head* she had a good man. These ladies were great characters! I didn't know what to expect about a book that took place in a shop but my girl linked it all together. Ms. jackson sure is nasty!!!
Rating: Summary: A Fantastic Book! Review: Blessings is one of my all-time favorites and it's a book that I'm always telling my friends (and even strangers in the black bookstores) to read when someone wants to read a "good" book. I loved reading this book and sharing in the lives of Pat, Faye, Zuma, and Sandy. For me, this book had me feeling the full range of "happy" to "angry" depending on the circumstances, but, from the beginning to the end, this book really touched my heart. At least one character is practically guaranteed to make you "hate" her by the end of the book but it's a great book that makes you FEEL something, in my opinion. An excellent book that is very highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Better than T.V. Review: I have read all of Sheneska Jackson's novels and although I thought Lil' Mama's Rule could not be topped, after reading this book I quickly re-evaluated my judgement. The characters are believable and real(I found myself contributing to their lively conversations, outloud and in public, quite embarassing at times, but hey, that's what a good book can do to you.) Blessings critical look at motherhood proved that motherhood is no easy task and children are a blessing and we should always do right by them. Blessings is spiritual, funny and heartening. I am just not ready to let these beauticians go, hell I wish I could sit in the shop all day and wait to have my hair done by Zuma! Ms. Jackson if you ever read this, please bring these characters back to life again. If I ever get to write a novel half as good as this one I would have done a good job. Great book! Peace.
Rating: Summary: Parenting 101 Review: This was a great book. But I found it somewhat amusing that the characters were in a tizzy to become parents and couldn't understand why they weren't being blessed with children. Hey! I think I know: Neither knew what the hell they were doing!!! Pat- An adoptive child crying and kicking on their first night in a new home is normal, sweetie. They will soon adjust, it will take time. Because the child is upset doesn't mean you have to give them back to the foster home! Oh, and Faye- if you don't hit your child, one day they will end up striking you! But I think you know that now, huh? Zuma- all I have to say is this: Nothing is 100% guaranteed. Think before investing that type of money ever again! Poor Sandy- portrayed as poor trailer trash to the very end. What ever happened to happy endings? (Oh, and girl, don't you EVER have no more kids!) Before any of these women try again I strongly suggest going back to college for a BA in child education. Better yet, I think they need to try for a Master's and a Ph.d in that field, for real!
Rating: Summary: Great Story Review: Ms. Jackson definatley has the Blessings of a great writer. Expericing characters of Blessings makes you sad, mad, and happy. Generally, these women had something in common. As they bond together you will see the realization of life. When you read this book you will know that God has giving them the many Blessings of life. Ms. Jackson has a nice writing stlye.
Rating: Summary: Deep... Review: Sheneska Jackson, did a wonderful job with this book. At fist, I was kind of skeptical of how everyone would tie in, but in the end the skepticism diminished. The characters were as real as they get. Each character change, you felt their pain. What can I say the book was worth the read...
Rating: Summary: Da Bomb Review: I loved this book. You could definitely relate to these women. All women were complete opposites, but somehow the author managed to link them all in some sort of way. A terrific read and a definite page turner..
Rating: Summary: Simply Great!!! Review: I read this book about two years ago and I must say to this day this is one of the best books I have ever read. To see how this different woman were how much they had in comman yet how less they had in common. This book definately had me in tears and I would love to see it on the big screen.
