Summary: Americana in Print
Review: These two timeless classics are presented in a very attractive package. The print is large. A few sketches accent the narratives, and obviously the writing is first-rate. Older children will likely enjoy these tales, and any adult who is familiar with both stories, but never actually read them should pick up a copy in the very near future.

Summary: horrifying/The headless horseman
Review: This book is suspenseful, horrifying, and exiting which I really like cause a book isn't fun to read without any thrill horror and exiting. It really gave me the creeps.

Summary: THE HEADLESS HORSEMAN RIDES AGAIN IN A NEW AUDIO ADAPTATION!
Review: This entry in the DH Audio "Generations Radio Theater presents Tales By American Masters" radio series is a good version with fine narration by Winifred Philips and a good musical score to accent the story. The only thing I have to complain about is that this is NOT an "Unabridged" reading of the Washington Irving story as advertised on the cassette case; this adaptation has been severely abridged, losing some of the more important elements of the story (such as Ichabod's life as schoolteacher, Brom Bones' history and rivalry with Ichabod, and the events after the night of Ichabod's terror-filled ride). Still, even with the cuts in the text, this tape is worth listening to in the darkness of your room to feel the chills run up your spine!

Summary: Sleepy Hollow
Review: This is a story about a guy school teacher named Ichabod crane, a timid and vulnurable schoolmaster from Connecticut, who is bullied by Brom Bones, because both of them like a girl named Katrina Van Tassel. During the story, the legend of the Headless Horseman arises when Ichabod is walking home from a party on Halloween Night. He is being chased throuhg the woods when he remembers that if he crosses the bridge then the Headless Horseman would vanish. He heads for the bridge and as he is crossing the bridge the book stops and it never tells you whether he makes it across or not. It gives you the decision of Ichabod Cranes life. This is a great story for anyone to read, and if you havent you must now.

Summary: MISCHIEF IN THE MOUNTAINS
Review: This story by Washington Irving has become a classic American folktale. Set in the Catskill Mountains in Colonial Dutch New York state, the fantasy recounts the adventure of one lazy but likeable good-old-boy named Rip Van Winkle. To escape his shrewish wife, he and his faithful dog spend a day in the Catskills, where he witness a curious procession of strangely-dressed little men (ghosts of Henrik Hudson's crew, waiting in vain for the return of the Half Moon). Sociable Rip helps them carry, and then empty, one of their kegs of mysterious brew. When he awakens 20 years later, major changes have occurred: in his appearance, the village and the attitude of the people. How can a loyal King's man fit into a new American nation? What happened to his family? Will Rip be welcomed back or driven away as a traitor--or even worse--a lunatic? Irving's style is truly literary, with prologned description and minimal dialogue. His vocabulary will test modern readers, but his rich narrative provides wonderful examples of the New York Dutch lifestyle. His floral prose presents excellent characterizations and development of plot, but his conversation is sparse. So whenever you hear thunder in the mountains, just imagine that it is the lost Dutchmen playing at Ninepins up in the clouds with our friend, Rip.

Review: This story is about a headless horseman. It was little bet scarer. Like when he was being chassed by the headless horseman and when he thought a pumkin at Ichabod who is in love with a farm's daughter.Then Ichabod was messing.

Review: this story is very exciting.I'm glad that Crane disappeared at the end,whatever his destiny is.The Sleepy Hollow is so secluded and beautiful that we don't allow anyone to spoil the beauty there.I view Crane as an intruder of the Tarry town.People there take story-telling,especially the horrable storys, as a pastime.This brings then some excitment.I myself brought up in the rural area, I can understand this.

Summary: A Good Escape From Reality
Review: Washington Irving creates a whimsical, dreamy setting in "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" that sends a reader into the same reverie in which his characters live. With rich and romantic language, a story of love, mystery, wonder is painted in the mind of the reader. The story is unpredictable and imaginative with a pleasant plot and a shocking ending. Irving adds many historical references to his legend which creates a heightened interest for the reader. Ichabod Crane is a creatively crafted main character. He is the one character that is made very familiar throughout the story. If the story has a flaw, it is the lack of dialouge amongst the characters(most likely because it is told as a legend by a narrator) that prevents the reader from feeling as though he is a part of the story's happenings and rather that he is looking upon them from above.
