Summary: I inhaled this book in the space of 24 hours
Review: Goldsmith novels are definitely guilty pleasures, and this one is no different--guilty because the husbands in this book are such bastards, and while I feel it's unfair to men, it also feels so good to just hate these 3 guys and watch them get their comeuppance! Apparently I have some unresolved anger, there.

Goldsmith is back at the top of her form here, after the disappointing Marrying Mom and Switcheroo. My one complaint concerns the form of their revenge: since Jada's husband was using the system to beat her up, I would have preferred to see her use the system to ruin him. A revenge that turns her into an "outlaw" is not so sweet. It seems to me that Goldsmith put a lot of thought into the ruin of our 3 heroines, and not enough into the forms of revenge that would be the most satisfying.

Summary: Ridiculous
Review: Having read and enjoyed "The Bestseller" a few months back I was very disappointed with "Young Wives." It should have been entitled "First Wives Club Part II" because it has the same plot. I don't know how the author could have come up with ridiculous shemes for revenge. I will never again buy a book by Olivia Goldsmith.

Summary: So sad by her death
Review: I am a fan of Olivia Goldsmith. It is shocking that she died recently. Her wit and humor are what drew me to her stories (Bestseller, Switcheroo). I hope she is remembered for the vibrant female characters depicted in her stories. She will be missed.

Summary: Pretty decent
Review: I didn't realize that the author of this book was the same woman who wrote First Wives Club until just now! I am sitting here reading an article on her death. I saw the name on this book, but it just didn't click.

This was a pretty good novel. Story was really good. I wanted each of the women to succeed. Funny at times. Sad at times. But an overall good story. It's been a while since I read this book, but I don't recall putting it down!! You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Can't put it down
Review: I found Ms. Goldsmith able to depict accurately the emotional strings that tie you and sometimes bind you to another in a relationship. While not devaluing women's desire to seek relationships with other, she does give you a strong whiff of coffee and the need to be aware.

This book was a great read. I would highly recommend it. I'm sure some men will feel offended and describe this novel as another male-bashing attempt by a female author. However, if the shoe doesn't fit, there's no need to even try to pick it up.

Summary: Couldn't put it down!
Review: I have never read 'First Wives Club' but I did see it on TV and thought that this was so much better than that movie (thank goodness!) and an excellent, extremely enjoyable book on 3 women who are with horrible husbands and how they try to change their lives. One of the reviews descibed it as 'high quality candy for the mind' and I would definately have to agree!

After reading many crime fiction novels, I really needed the lives of Michelle, Jada and Angie to make me laugh out-loud yet still be sad for these women and their idiot husbands. Even though it is a very long book (about 500 pages), I just couldn't put it down as I read about each woman, her life, how true friendships last lifetimes and how to get revenge on your truly idiotic ex! Sensational, funny, sad and poignant reading from a wonderful author who really made a difference to my Saturday.

I will definately by getting the next Olivia Goldsmith novel!

Summary: More mean spirited than her previous books
Review: I have read "Switcheroo" and saw the "First Wives Club". Ms. Goldsmith's themes seem to constantly center on all-men-as-dogs-who-eventually-cheat-on-you-no-matter-what-you-do. She is the Caucasian Terri McMillan. Even though the premise of "Switcheroo" is implausible, I found myself accepting it enough to keep my attention. However, I found this book to be just mean spirited as evidenced by these friends, tied together by cheating husbands. Even though one may want to exact revenge on someone who has hurt them, I generally feel that it is not worth it if it hurts someone else or could potentially hurt yourself. The situation the wives found themselves in to exact revenge on a husband could have potentially gone really bad and I actually was afraid for them, not rooting for them. The book might have been more productive had it centered on the women's friendship and strengths they gathered from each other during their difficult discoveries.

I ended up not finishing this book because I couldn't find enough redeeming qualities in it. I have read stories about couples where there has been infidelities and, slowly with time, healing and renewed respect for the other partner, the marriage is saved. An infidelity can be both devasting and unforgiveable but it also can be survived. Also, if one wants to leave a marriage, fine, but one should not necessary advocate to everyone who goes through the same experience to do the same. I know we need a healthy dose of cynicism once in a while, but there is already an anti-marriage sentiment out there and there is no reason to continue to feed into it.

The characters were pretty decent and I especially admired the black character for her loyalty to everyone in the book. I could tell, however, that her character was written by someone not of her racial background. Other than that, this is a good book about friendship and support, a bad book about marriage.

Summary: My Favorite Olivia Goldsmith Yet
Review: I know that not all men are pigs, but there are enough of them out there to make this book ring true. If you know any guys like this you'll be very satisfied with the outcome.

Summary: For Man-Hater's Everywhere
Review: I like Olivia Goldsmith. I have read several of her books and enjoyed them. They're not literature, but they're usually funny and diverting. She did the revenge thing in the "First Wives Club" book. That book was funny in a wickedly, cartoonish way. This one is not. This one resurrects the same plot and then adds a cynical, hard-edged extra-dose of unfettered hatred against men. The irony, of course, is that each of her characters neatly lines up a newer man to share her life at the same time she is revenging and dumping the first man who done her wrong in the first place. What drivel...can't live with 'em, obviously Olivia can't live without 'em either. Oh, except if one becomes a lesbian. Silly. I might have forgiven the plot if the women were more accountable for the choices they made in the first place. They're all innocent victims. Baloney. I note there are 7 copies of this available used in the dollar range. Don't waste your money.
