Rating: Summary: Christian Fiction- A well written Novel Review: Although placed in the General Fiction genre, I feel that Sunday Brunch is best categorized as Christian Fiction. As such, I think this book could hold its own in a book discussion of a church book club, and it comes conveniently packaged with discussion questions and creative tips for discussion at the end. While I felt the storyline has been done before-probably because I read extensively-I liked how it was done. I liked the inclusion of prayers and scripture in the day-to-day lives of the characters, but if you're not a Christian this might be over the top for you. Five friends, who met in law school, get together every Sunday after church for brunch. This is an opportunity for Lexi, Capri, Jewel, Jermane and Angel to catch up on the events of their week, and talk through their situations. Each lady is an individual with her own unique set of problems but feel confident enough in their friendship to be candid. The storyteller Lexi keeps this story moving. She is searching for a closer walk with God. She is portrayed as the one who keeps this camaraderie flowing. She is called upon by all of her friends and she takes each of their issues to heart and prays constantly for them. Although it appears her prayers are answered for things in her friends' lives, she believes her own needs aren't being met but she remains vigilant in her faith. Capri is the standoffish member of the brunch bunch. She's been emotionally scarred but her friends encourage her to explore a relationship; it's okay for her to let her guard down concerning love. Jewel is the extrovert in the bunch. Egregious and effervescent, she's considered "over the top" but what would a circle of friends be without the self-centered but loveable member. She too is searching for love, but not with a brother who does not have a bank account to back it. Angel is reserve. She doesn't attend church, feeling mainly that church folks are hypocrites but she doesn't knock her friend's choices. Lexi feels that she must convert Angel, but must do so in a non-preachy way. Angel has health problems and most of the book, if the reader feels any concern or bonding with the characters, Angel garners this feeling. Jermane, the last of the ladies, is probably the most sheltered. She's married to Rex, an attorney in her father's law office, and who feels he must spend time working to impress his father-in-law and not his wife. Jermane feels alone and while she has this circle of friends, they aren't exactly the company she desires. As the lives of these five women unfolds around the buffet, I gained a better understanding of what it is to be a friend. Though each woman was varied in her life experiences, the common bonds of friendship and the inclusion of God as a problem solver, listening ear, shoulder to cry on, and the sixth friend at the table made Sunday Brunch an enjoyable read. While not a caution for the next reader, I do think, this book would better be marketed to the Christian-Fiction reader.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK Review: I just finished reading this book and it was awesome. It was quick reading and I could relate to the characters. Can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: I must say that I really enjoyed reading Sunday Brunch. I am a child of God, wife and mother of three. Ms. Jarrett's book took me away from my busy schedule and in a world all by myself. I love the way the characters stuck together know matter what. I also like how there was one main character whom everyone looked too for advice and she always gave the best advice because she took it from the Word of God. I loved the way one of the characters who was a non believer, had troubles in her life and she became a believer. This book is truly one that you do not want to put down and when you are done you want to read it all over again. If you are looking for a good clean book to read that will give you inspiration, this is the book for you. Hats off to you Norma Jarrett, I can't wait for more of your work. Good Luck.
Rating: Summary: Great offering from new author! Review: I recently read this book, thanks to my mom. After looking at the cover & reading the description on the back I expected a book about friendship and relationships. I also had an inkling that religion would be featured in this book. This did not bother me, as I'm semi-religious. But if you're someone who isn't open/comfortable to talk/read on religion, as I can see by past readers comments, I'd say this book wouldn't be for you.
I was right on target on what the book was to be about. I thoroughly enjoyed peeking in on these 5 ladies lives as they were each struggling with something- whether it be a marriage, a job, financial status or religion. I thought the subject of religion was tame enough- I don't think it would offend most people. It was a change of pace for sure to read a book that in a way gave advice to the reader about how to handle the situations in their lives from a religious perspective. It was in a way motivational and inspiring- since the difficulties these ladies faced, many of us also face. If nothing else- I think the religion perspective written about will make the reader think.
I enjoyed each of the characters and their personal stories. I'd recommend this book, again, as long as your open to religion discussion and if you enjoy reading about women's friendships. Nice novel for a first-time author!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Awesome Review: I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in reading good faith-based fiction. Sunday Brunch is a page turner. I could not put it down. I just had to know what happended next. While I was reading it, two of my friends tried to take it from me after reading only a few pages of it. I was convicted, inspired, I laughed, rejoiced, prayed, and praised God. It was truly a beautiful experience.
Rating: Summary: Enjoy the taste! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed my taste of Sunday Brunch. I could relate to all four women because I have been all of them at some point in my life. Miss Jarrett wrote honestly about being a Christian and struggling daily with the flesh. Everyone looked to Lexi for answers and help, but Lexi herself needed some answers. I cannot wait to read Miss Jarrett's next book!
Rating: Summary: "Sunday Brunch Book Review" Review: I was really blessed by reading "The Sunday Brunch", because it focuses on how to live a balanced life spiritually, emotionally, and financially. It is a great pleasure to read novels which are inspirational because it shows us that as christians, we will go through trials and tribulations, but we must remember to pray for each other and put God first. It is really wonderful to have brunch with your friends occasionally. I highy recommend this book to everything, beacause you will learn a great deal about the value of friendship, how to balance your life personally and professionally, and putting God first in your life.
Rating: Summary: Friends til the End Review: SUNDAY BRUNCH by Norma L. Jarrett is the story of five friends who met in law school. Every Sunday, Lexi, Capri, Angel, Jermane and Jewel meet after church for brunch so they can get caught up on the week's events as well as spend some quality sister-girl time together.
Alexis Parker has her own law practice and is the confidante of the group. She is the one everyone comes to when they have a problem. Problem is, Lexi has no one to turn to when she needs a shoulder to lean on, she is struggling with her faith and searching for her soul mate.
Capricia Sterling is an attorney at a top notch Houston firm who is no-nonsense and strictly business. She has it all together in business, but not so together in love. She was hurt in the past and will not allow anyone the opportunity to hurt her again. Capri meets a client of another attorney at her office who just may be the one to mend her broken heart.
Angelica Capers is recently divorced and sees men only as sex objects. Men are forever eating out of the palm of her hands, and she loves it until she has a health scare that causes her to reevaluate her stance on men and relationships.
Jermane Richmond is married and living the life of luxury. She met her husband in law school and is a devout Catholic. Jermane's husband is a partner in her father's law firm and a workaholic. Due to him working long hours Jermane feels neglected and unappreciated. Temptation rears its ugly little head, and Jermane has to decide if she wants to take a leap on the wild side or rekindle what her and her husband once shared.
Jewel Whitaker only dates men with a sizable bank account. She is self-absorbed and an only child who is use to getting what she wants when she wants it. She meets a man who doesn't live up to her usual standards, but there is something about him that causes her to rethink her requirements.
Christianity, friendship and faith are what make up SUNDAY BRUNCH by Norma L. Jarrett. Take a ride with five friends who each have their share of problems. By having each other and a strong foundation of faith they are able to overcome.

Rating: Summary: Satisfying! Review: Sunday Brunch satisfies more than the appetite, it's an opportunity for female friends to stay connected also to experience individual personal growth. I enjoyed the clear crisp dialect; the descriptive language paints a vivid picture for the imagination. This book is full of colorful characters and well as colorful designer fashion. I was able to see one woman's faith in God believe in five women and maintain the friendships. All women have a certain amount of confusion in their lives. Black women have their share of difficulties in career love and religious conviction. The author makes use of characters with real and diverse personalities. I see the meaning of true friendship in this novel. One woman who, not only shares guidance and encouragement but also shares hope, intended for friends to heal and move on! -VE(Dallas Club selection: April 2001)
