Rating: Summary: Nora,Nora Review: I have thoroughly enjoyed Anne Rivers Siddons books and I enjoyed this one, however, as I read it seemed so familiar, like I had read it before. I finally figured it out. In my opinion, if you liked the movie Corrina, Corrina you will like this book.
Rating: Summary: Stay away! Review: WOW does this book suck. I only bought it because I was stranded in a place with no nearby bookstores and there was a drugstore selling this dreck. Whoo, if I can just protect one person from reading this horrendous made-for-tv magazine-fiction "novel", I will rest easy. It has no plot, no style, no insight, and no redeeming values (even for a book that's not intended to be either literary or thrilling). If you like Austen, Bronte, Maugham, Trollope, Fitzgerald, Dickens, Balzac, Shakespeare, or Dostoevesky you will HATE this book. Dimestore paperbacks can be great - try Grisham, Sue Grafton, or even Sandra Brown or Luanne Rice, but leave this one a wide berth....
Rating: Summary: my review Review: Peyton McKenzie is a 12 year old girl who hides an incredible secret in her heart: Her mother died the day she was born and she blames herself for it. Destiny will put her cousin Nora in her path and with her she will find a new life, a new look and peace in her.The plot is interesting enough but somehow it does not grip you like other novels by the author. She places the story in the south, close to Atlanta in a small town in the 1960's a time of great changes in this area. The people are also interesting and their characters are well described. It is an easy novel to read but I somehow got used to reading books from this author with the caliber of a "Peachtree Road", and I don't see it here.
Rating: Summary: Just finished reading... Review: I just finished reading this book last night and I enjoyed it. Since I read alot, friends ask me for recommendations because they only have time to pick up a "really good book." This is not a book I would recommend to an occasional reader who wanted something really good to pass their time. Otherwise, for you who read a lot, it might be worthwhile, especially if you are a fan of this writer.
Rating: Summary: A literary view of the south Review: This is the first novel by A.R. Siddons that I have read and I now plan to try her others. She paints a vivid picture of small town life without making it streotypical or cloying. The three main characters- Peyton, her father, and Nora all ring true. Nora's motivation is a little hard to understand and she seems a little over the top, nonetheless she brings light into Peyton's life and into the novel. Interstingly Nora, Nora frequently refers to To Kill a Mockingbird and Our Town and there are elements of both of them in her novel. For example characters deal with racism and the single father is reminiscent of Scout's dad in Mockingbird. This is a story of seeing and perception. The reader grows with Peyton as her view of her town, family, and herself are altered in this yesr of change. This is an interesting story. It seems short and I wondered what else will happen to these characters
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Story Review: I have just finished this book and think it is absolutely wonderful! I could hardly put it down for a minute. Anne Rivers Siddons has a real knack for making the characters jump off the page and I love everything I've read of hers so far. My heart just ached for Peyton during her bad times and sang for her during the good. Nora is a blazingly alive character who you sometimes love and sometimes hate. But, guaranteed, you will love this book.
Rating: Summary: Quick and Shallow Review: Much has been offered here in previous reviews, but I will add that Siddon's weaving of characters here is a particular weakness. I was expecting Ernie to emerge in a significant role--but that didn't happen. Nana's ominous warnings to Peyton leave us hanging and the story line discredits her "powers" by having her be incapacitated by a stroke...loose ends abound there! What about the confrontation with Boot? Nora shakes a little kid silly--dislikes kids, in fact--because he reminds her of her own child in Cuba? Odd for a teacher huh? Ah well, no harm done--he's happily working at the grocery store in the next scene. (How can that be? I thought he was a little guy underfoot only weeks before!) As for Peyton, it's a miracle that her character captured any of us for all the sleeping the child did in the first chapters of the book. I think that's called clinical depression! Historical inaccuracies have been covered here as well...but go ahead, borrow a copy, read it in a day, and move on to a "real" book.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing Review: I have read all of Anne Siddons previous works -"Colony', "The Outer Banks", etc and have enjoyed them immensly. This book was a huge disappointment. What happened? ARS developes her characters, and in her other books and I enjoyed them, but the characters in this book are shallow. I think their different ways of living are supposed to keep us interested, but they don't I usually finish books, but I can't complete this one. I have read three-fourths of the book and feel it was a waste of time. I thought it would get better, but unfortunately it did not.

Rating: Summary: Have'nt I read this before??? Review: Perhaps if I had been able to finish this book my review would have been different. Unfortunately, I was unable to sustain an interest. Harper Lee told it much better.
