Rating: Summary: Entertaining to a point Review: This book was funny for a while but toward the middle, I was anxious just to finish it. Bob was a first class jerk. Sylvie wasted too much energy on him and Marla was simply a bimbo. Enough already.
Rating: Summary: FUN book! She really made me smile :-) Review: This book was so much fun .. the beginning was a little sad, but after the 2nd or 3rd chapter it picked up a lot, and was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it totally. Olivia Goldsmith is an excellent writer, and very funny!
Rating: Summary: Fun plot Review: This book would make a cool movie. It isn't very believable, but hey, it's a good read. The visual of a movie would add to the plot more than the book, since you have to use your imagination more when reading. The book isn't very long- only 265 pages. It's basically a fun, quick read. Something to bring to the beach or read over a weekend. The plot wasn't too light though- there were some serious undertones, especially if you can relate to the wife Sylvie. Or I suppose even if you can relate to the mistress Marla. Their lives aren't so wonderful. I did like how Ms. Goldsmith made the book "light reading", but she also included some "heavy" topics. A nice balance.
Rating: Summary: Fairly boring reading; lacked oomph! Review: This is not one of Olivia Goldsmith's best books. I enjoyed First Wives' Club and really looked forward to reading this one but was disappointed due to how boring this book actually was! It's a real yawner!
Rating: Summary: A VERY GOOD MORAL TO THE STORY Review: This is one of best books ever in print. Even though certain situations & happenings were not maturely developed, and our English teachers would not be too happy with this book because of the poor development of certain parts, the moral of the story come through loud and clear: Affairs (or any other negative addiction) are the direct result of a hole in the soul caused by miscommunication, insecurities, or not opening up to true feelings. It took this affair for Bob & Sylvie to open up to their love for each other. I know this situation happens so often in real life (minus the actual switcheroo). If people would open up to their feelings and reassure each other, most of these affairs would be unnecessary. Ms. Goldsmith has written about what happens in real life: affairs because people are afraid to express their love & feelings to each other. The end was tender and heart-touching: Bob DID love Sylvie, he was just afraid to express it & let her know. I loved this book because it is so true to life and the consequences of a "closet love" are true & real. I recommend everybody with a relationship in trouble read this book. (But I won't recommend the English teacher read it. For example, the Thanksgiving table & food & people eating was very underdeveloped. When I read it, I felt as though I was standing behind a closed door because I couldn't "see" anything from the author's writeup.) But the moral of the story is the most important thing, and that is what I noticed. Thanks to Ms. Goldsmith for bringing to light a very important issue.
Rating: Summary: Funny and highly entertaining Review: This is one of funniest novels I've come across. The plot is a bit far fetched but who says fiction has to resemble real life? One can't help but wonder though what if this took place in real life. I can't wait for the movie. I can very well imagine Goldie Hawn doing the Marla part and Meryl Streep in Sylvie's shoes. It's a pity though that those two ladies have nothing in common where physical appearances are concerend. I guess Goldie Hawn can do both parts and that will leave us all rolling on the floor with laughter. Of all Olivia Goldsmith's novels this is the funniest. It's a good book to read when you're not feeling your best. It'll make you forget everything and just keep laughing.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: this is the first book I have read by Olivia Goldsmith, and I really enjoyed it! The storyline was a bit far fetched, but I think that's part of what make it fun. Especially, ditzy Marla! i read this book in 2 days flat, and thought it was great!
Rating: Summary: Silly Review: This is the silliest mess I have read in many a year. It makes everybody look stupid. The husband for picking a mistress who resembles his wife. The Doctor who falls for the mistress who looks like the wife. How in the world could the wife and the mistress conjoin to pull this off??? JUst the plunge in the pool in the beginning is so silly. I hope I never have to read drivel like this again. Excuse me, Goldsmith, I ratherliked your First Wive's Club, but deliver me from anymore of this stuff.

Rating: Summary: Funny, made me laugh, it has to be a movie - outrageous Review: This was a nail on the head look at mid life crisis with a bunch of kooks thrown in for fun...I found myself laughing out loud and hurrying to turn the next page. I am already casting the movie in my head and can't wait to see it on screen - the bedroom scene alone would be worth it....read this book if you are depressed!
