Rating: Summary: This novel is the best kept secret! Excellent! Review: This book hooks you right from the beginning and never lets you go. I laughed out loud and I also cried. The writing syle of Susan Straight is extrodinary, She throws you full force into the 1950's and brings you full circle in the 1980's. The main character Marietta could easily be anyones mother or grandmother. Her sorrrows and triumphs will make the human spirit soar. I look forward to reading her next novel. This book is definitely a 5 star. You will not want to put it down!
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book really captivated me because it was so real. The main character Marietta, was a phenomonal character because the book talked about her struggles. Straight used many different techiques to point out her trials and tribulations throughout this book. it talks about her going through womanhood, pregnacy and life. Marietta was a caring yet comforting person to be around. I would recommend this book for all people to read becase takes you through a lot of emotions. Crying, shouting and thinking all at the same time. So go and buy this book , read it and really try to learn something from it.
Rating: Summary: I LOVED this book!! Review: This book was the best ....not only is it a good story it's inspirational. THe character never focused on what she didn't have or the negative influences in her life, she just made the best of what she had and stayed centered and focused. THis book is about perserverence and staying positive in what most of us would consider a "bleak" world. The main character showed integrity, intelligence and the depth of character I wish I had. Again, I loved it!!!
Rating: Summary: Powerful debut novel! Review: This novel drew me in from the first page. Susan Straight has a gift for describing society from the 60's to the 80's that time and again rang true for me. The tumult of the 60's Civil Rights Movement and the Me-Me-Me Generation of the 80's as shown in this novel could have come straight from Time magazine. Straight not only put words onto paper, she breathed life into Marietta, Aint Sister, Sinbad and "them two." I really felt this novel, something that hasn't happened in a long, long time. Also recommended is Jewel by Brett Lott.

Rating: Summary: I'm stunned!!! Review: What an extraordinary book. I Been In Sorrow's Kitchen And Licked Out All The Pots is a froce of nature. Marietta Cook, is a tall, blueblack girl, who grows up wehn she finds herself pregnant with twins. She is about strength and beauty. She develops an inner strength at a time when the world seems determined to desstroy it before it can begin. Raising twin sons, she sets a path for them to become successful through football. A moving book that is bound to ring the bell of your soul, it should be read and read again. A masterwork from a brillant writer.
