Summary: The Best book from Allende!!!
Review: I have read almost all Allende's books (except for one) and I found this book very original, you must read it in the spanish version. It is probably this book what differenciates Allende from Marquez. Provides to the lector information of historical events, it is just an amazing novel!!

Summary: This book is Spectacular!
Review: I read this book for a High School class and I admit I wasn't thrilled. However, after a few pages I became hooked. It's one of the most original books i've read in a long time. It has love, romance, and action. All that I could ask for and more. READ THIS BOOK!!!

Review: I wish someone had told me this book was in Spanish.

Summary: Perfect Combination of non-combinable items
Review: In this book, the author achieves a perfect combination between love and terror, two topics which at first sight seem completely impossible to place together. Two stories in one are presented in this novel: the love affair between Francisco and Irene and the horror of the military ruling at the time. A young girl who disappears glues these two together, as the couple go through "the shades" in their quest for the truth about the matter. The horror they will face will change them forever, while strenghtening their love affair minute after minute...

Summary: Amazing and Breathtaking .. Isabel Allende a superior writer
Review: This book is amazing. It combines love with the horrors of the desaparecidos in Chile during the early 1980's. If you want a great story with quality and that will challenge all of your intellect, I suggest Of Love and Shadows. You will fall in love with the most amazing characters in contemporary novel and be forever touched by this fantastic reading.

Summary: Dificult for a non native speaker
Review: This is an excellent book that took me a long time to read not being a native speaker of spanish, but I found it to be one of the best books I have read in a foriegn language. Este libro es bueno, pero era muy dificil por alguna persona que no habla español como un nativo.

Summary: More Politics than Love
Review: This is really more a political account of the events that happened in Chile during the military government of General Augusto Pinochet, than the love story between Francisco and Irene.
Sometimes there are to many details in the stories of oppresion and aprehended people.

Summary: One of Allende's Best
Review: This is the story of a reporter and a photographer investigating a terrible crime. Isabel Allende is a wonderful writer and this book proves it. Spellbinding and moving, this book is one of Allende's best. The language she uses is rich and the trama extremely interesting.
