Summary: Absolutely beautiful!
Review: It reminds me of Diane Atkinson's "A Natural History of the Senses." It has that same lovely, poetic language depicting a person's relationship to the world around him: the awe, the delight, the overwhelming need to use whatever tool available to appreciate life and what it has to offer... The illustrations are also quite beautiful.

Summary: The most sensual book I've read in years
Review: It's been years since I've read anything with a combination of fantastic recipes, good humour and fun. I force myself to read a chapter per day only, so this marvel lasts longer. Congratulations to Ms. Allende.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not her usual
Review: Ms. Allende is an excellent novelist. Her books are sexy, romantic, and surreal. Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses, is more like a text book or a coffee table book. A good book full of sexy recipes with exotic ingredients and interesting insights about her personal life, with comments about her husband and her upbringing. Definitely worth reading for any Allende fan.

Summary: Amazing! My cooking will never be the same!
Review: Ms. Allende is my new hero! I have always enjoyed her fiction- filled with passion, humor and wit- and this book is no different. I applaud Ms. Allende for allowing her readers a glimpse of her true persona! Read this book and enjoy! The recipies are out of this world!

Summary: Something of a Bible
Review: Succeds enormously in every task it seems to set for itself, and there are quite a few. My forays into reading Allende's novels and short stories have resulted in very mixed impressions - some books I've loved, some been less impressed with, and sadly, one or two I've been uninspired to finish. With Aphrodite, however, I found myself enticed to read very slowly at first, by way of savoring. Even the book's design is beautiful, with vibrant images in full color (in both hardcover and paperback).

Summary: A sensual, funny and passionate look at food and the senses
Review: This book breathed with sensuality and passion. I really enjoyed that it was a mature woman taking hold and getting lost in her senses. I found that it was not pretentious, but rather whimsical. A delight!

Summary: Enchanting
Review: This book was wonderful. I am cooking for myself for the first time in my life. This book gave me an appreciation not only for the aphrodisiac virtues in food but also for all their other sensual qualities. I recommend it to anyone who loves food or has an appreciation for anything sensual.

Summary: Exquisite
Review: This is not a book you want to read on the subway to work. It is an incredibly stimulating, erotic encyclopedia of the powers of the senses. My experiences with food and sex are changed forever.
