Summary: Awesome for all ages!
Review: Wow what a great book. I am 16 and this book grabbed me and wouldn't let me put it down. I've read it five times already. Terry McMillan knows how to grip a reader. With her spicy writing you forget your even reading a book. I got lost in the story and fell in love eith Stella and Winstons romance. I reccomend this book for a woman down on love, or anyone who wants a feel good story to read on a rainy day or a hot day by the pool. I will definatly check out other books by Terry McMillan. Happy reading.

Summary: diverse images of sistah's desires for love....
Review: The beauty of reading a novel about an intelligent, earthy Black woman who is not about to go for the okiedoke to have love. This novel really touches the fibers of Black on Black love. Finally, a real character that I can relate to as a Black woman. Mama, her other masterpiece, must come to the big screen. I'll be waiting....Ta'Shia Asanti-Film Maker, Editor GBF Magazine

Summary: This book made me laugh.
Review: I loved listening to Terry McMillan as she took us through Stella's adventure. I laughed at the outrageous things she said while describing her adventure with this man. I watched the movie afterward and was disappointed. The book was 100 times better... much funnier!

Summary: shallow with excruciating dialogue
Review: A romance novel set in the Caribbean, _How Stella Got Her Groove Back_ lacks even minimal believability. For readers of fantasy, the book is okay, but if you've ever been to Jamaica, heard Jamaicans speak or desire more than shallow scenes in your fiction, look elsewhere, perhaps to Russell Banks (_The Book of Jamaica_)or to Patricia Powell for sustenance. The dialogue on the part of Stella's love interest sounds entirely concocted from Harlequin. Disappointing not even so much for what it is but what it may inspire in others: vapid thinking about a complex culture and copycat novelists hoping to cash in on the same ticket.

Summary: Too boring and shallow to even finish.
Review: Stella is completely focused on herself and only in the most superfical way. There is a rather tedious fascination throughout the book to name designer goods----sunglasses, t-shirts, perfume, etc. This book lacks any kind of interesting substance what-so-ever. The characters are incredibly shallow, and the story would make most teenagers roll their eyes. I could only pass this book along at a garage sale--and even then it wasn't easy!

Summary: this is my favourite book
Review: this book is wonderful, it changed my life because it transported me to jamaica and took me to Stella's world. i love the way McMillan has written this, the stream of consciousness is a bit hard at first but it really is worth hanging in there til the end. it is different so give it a try!

Summary: I sure would have gotten by groove back if I was Stella!
Review: Although I'm not finish with this book, I think it's great! I read Waiting to Exhale and it was also a great one, way better than the movie. I have yet watched the movie for this one tho. I really liked how Ms. McMillan drew you into Stella and you really got to know her. The thing at first what I thought was sort of weird was the LONG sentences, sometimes one sentence was one huge paragraph! But after reading a few pages, i figured that's how Stella's thoughts were like. Stella seemed to always be in a rush or always had to do something or think something at that moment in time. But...despite that..it's a great read and I would recommend it to anybody.

Summary: At least it was a fast read
Review: The only thing that saved this book in my opinion is that it was a quick read and I was able to finish it in time for my book club meeting.

I thought the characters were vapid, the story unrealistic (I know it's loosely based on the author's life, but I still couldn't figure out how two people 21 years apart in age could fall in love after like 2 hours) and overall dull. I wasn't expecting much, and I didn't get much.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: This is an excellant book.
Review: I really enjoyed this book, it made me envy the character in the book even though I know she is not real. I am glad Ms. McMillan wrote such a good book. I want to write a seaqual to this book with the permission of Ms. McMillan.
