Rating: Summary: Mystique, Adventure, and Search for Self Review: A move into a different genre; but enjoyable nonetheless. The reader is very, very good and, like the run on sentences are almost charming, like in the stream of consciousness flow and it occurs to me that this is Stella moving into my brain. Stella's attitudes toward marriage are like frank and on target and really refreshing, and then I realize that Stella also endorses good things - like, first, get an education, and then, like have a job, and save and invest money (it also occurs to me that this is hard to reconcile with Stella's spending habits), but don't forget to take care of yourself and always look your best, but be discriminating in your choice of partner, and always, always use a condom, and be mostly kind to family but like don't take any b.s. either. Do wish they could have incorporated some of the music into the background! Rated R -- it was a little racy for a Mamalinda, and the language is just a bit harsh (but not gratuitous, used for "processing"). Not a tape to share with your mother, or plug into the car for a family trip, it did bog down at times, but all in all it was really quite exceptional.
Rating: Summary: Sorry, Terry... Review: Waiting to Exhale, Mama, and Disappearing Acts were better. I don't like to use the word "hate", but I DID hate this book. There was no substance. Hopefully, your next novel will be better.
Rating: Summary: It was the Bomb Review: This book was terrible. I kept looking for a plot, a climax, and found neither. The story went on and on and ended with a lot to be desired. I simply didn't see the point.
Rating: Summary: VIBRANT AND EXUBERANT Review: Oh come on, people, stop criticizing this book just because it's not a heavy, philosophical tome! Who doesn't need to laugh once in awhile? I know I sure do and I did with this witty, vibrant, fun book. The characters are immensely likable, the setting is fun and the plot is a hoot. Thanks, Terry McMillan for a fun little romp in Jamaica!
Rating: Summary: The Joys Of A Younger Man Review: For women of a "certain age" or a certain point in life, there is a growing doubt about attractiveness. These points differ with each woman. No one, male or female, can deny the rejuvinating and flattering affects of a relationship, particularly with a younger, attractive person. Save your money. We don't need to hear it again, if it be in an African American, Anglo or any other cultural setting. Save your money!
Rating: Summary: A Fun Book to Take on Holiday Review: This is a feel good book for all us older women who want to feel sexy and loved by a younger man. Of course it is pure fantasy but what fun I had reading it. I loved Stella, I loved Jamaica (well I spent my childhood there so I would) and I loved the gentle plot that never really went anywhere but was enjoyable all the same. McMillan certainly knows how to write a good fun book. Read this when you go on holiday, it will have you giggling and smiling in no time.
Rating: Summary: shallow Review: although the start of the novel was quite entertaining, i must say this did not last long. i realize the slang and all that is part of the whole novel, but after awhile I just can't follow along with the confusion. also, the character of stella is really strange if you think about it. is this realistic? i think not. good for those who want to fantasize.
Rating: Summary: brilliant and compelling, AS ALWAYS Review: I love terry. she knows women and she is not afraid to divulge what she knows. she is beautiful inside and out , and a real writer. thank you, the divine Ms M -- and sincerely? I can't wait for the next one.....
Rating: Summary: Ain't Love Grand! Review: I enjoyed this book. It kept my interest, however not as intensely as Waiting to Exhale and Disappearing Acts. The story was so romantic and neat, but it seemed to drag sometimes. Overall, good job though. I have to say that in the movie version, the addition of Whoopie's character was a good choice. Kudos to whoever came up with that one!O.K. Ms. McMillan, I've read them all and I'm ready for the next one!
Rating: Summary: BORING, BORING, BORING Review: This books lacks passion, and an interesting character. Stella is completely self-absorbed, much more interested in acquistions and 'brand' names than in anything with substance. She is shallow and has the attitude of an inept teeny booper.
