Summary: A great feel-good book for ex- 'Exhalers'. A bedtime must!
Review: 'Stella' (as it has come to be known in the 'hood) is not one of the best books I've ever read, nor it is one of the best written. I, for one, can dig the run-ons but for those of you who found them cumbersome, I hope that you did not allow the mechanics of this novel to overshadow its worth. After 'Exhale'-ing for the last few years, Terry McMillan has provided her public with another slice of life from a different flavor of pie. This time around, the protagonist is in search of something unknown but finds something well- known--LOVE. Having to decide between hope and experience, Stella plunges into the blue waters of Jamaica and the heart of a man half her age. This is not a 'How To' book--it is a 'Why Not?' book. I was impressed with the way Terry took a light-hearted approach to a very heavy subject. Whether or not the writing of it was cathartic and whether or not she had difficulty writing it matter very little. How it touches its readers matters greatly. Summary: great girlfriend you gotta read book!
Review: despite, the run on sentences the writing style reminded me of a friend sharing her love adventures and can't believe that's it's happening to her. it's a refreshing, light hearted story that made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. most importantly, that love conquers all no matter of age, financial standing, or cultural differences. stella gave me a great big smile on my face. i couldn't believe that i couldn't put it down. i read it on one sitting! can't wait to see the movie!

Summary: Terry's theraputic book doesn't provide same balm to readers
Review: "Stella" is beach reading - light, fluffy, no susbstance, and full of plot holes. The run-on writing is tedious and nerve-wracking after only a few pages. I realize people think stream-of-consciousness, but it doesn't translate well to the written pages. Plot devices come up and drop to the side quickly. I like the premise, but she could have done so much more with this book. "Exhale" was defintiely better, if only in that it was easier to read. This looks like the thrown together, thinly veiled semi- autobiography that is is. If you must read it, get it from a friend or check it out from the library. "Stella" was great therapy for Terry, who experienced this exact same thing (why do you think she wrote it?) but some forms of therapy should be kept private.

Review: Terry McMillan really makes you feel like you're in Jamica. The book takes you through a journey of a woman ripped apart. She wants to follow her heart but head (and family)keeps getting in the way. Every woman can relate to this book about falling in love and letting down their guards.

Review: "Stella" was not Ms. McMillan's usual quality of work. It seemed that the book was literally thrown together. I was extremely disappointed in the writing style, specifically, the run on sentences. I hope her next book will be of better quality.

Summary: A Fun Summer Story To Sit and Relax To!
Review: I didn't read the book but I just listened to an audiobook recording of Terry McMillan's, How Stella Got Her Groove Back which was read by the author and I liked it and found it very entertaining and relaxing and I found myself wishing I was in Jamaica sitting by the pool or on a beach drinking a Pina Colada and I recommend How Stella Got Her Groove Back which I think is a great summer read or in my case a great summer listen and I recommend either the book or the audio recording and I think it would be great to read or listen to How Stella Got Her Groove Back while sitting on a beach or by a pool. The audiobook is abridged and I wish that there was an unabridged recording and I might even buy the paperback book and I also plan on renting the movie which I haven't seen yet, well anyway this audiobook is a keeper for sure! In this book Stella Payne is a 42 year old divorced hardworking sucessful career woman and loving dedicated mother to 11 year old Quincy and when Quincy goes to spend time with his father and Stella has time by herself she realizes that she is not as happy with her job as she thought and she is in a rut she decides she needs to get her groove back and goes off to Jamaica where she meets a handsome younger man named Winston (He is about 21 years old) and they immediately hit it off but Stella is feeling insecure about their age difference and Winston thinks she is being silly and that it is no big deal. I rate this audiobook a 5 because it was just a fun summer story to sit and relax to.

Review: This was an enjoyable and comical story of an older woman going on vacation and having a fling with a young man. It was well written and the characters were well portrayed.
