Summary: Getting into the Groove with McMillan
Review: I have to admit, I didn't really care for the first few chapters of "How Stella Got Her Groove Back." The run-on sentences made me ill. But I'd bought the book, and I was not going to waste my money; I decided to see it through to the end. Once I got into the groove of the character Stella Payne, I enjoyed it immensely! I began to relate to Stella's stream of conscience narration. I think everyone has that little voice in her head that thinks about things excessively. I could relate to McMillan's need to experiment with writing styles. Keep the books coming, Terry!

Summary: Funny and Wonderful
Review: Terry had too many run-on sentences, but it is a beautiful story. I love the way she made Stella this intelligent and independent black woman, who is raising her son all alone. I throughly enjoyed the enitre book.

Summary: WHAT HAPPENED?
Review: I READ THIS BOOK AND I DID NOT ENJOY IT. THE ONLY REASON WHY I FINISHED THE BOOK WAS BECAUSE I READ OTHER BOOKS BY TERRI, AND I WANTED TO GIVE HER A CHANCE TO REDEEM HERSELF. THIS BOOK WAS VERY CONFUSING, I THINK THAT TERRI DID AN EXCELLENT REVIEW OF HER OWN WORK WHEN SHE STATED THAT HER (TERRI'S)BOOKS IS NOT "ALL THAT."

Summary: Great love story (though it was unexpected)
Review: I really did not expect this book to take on the plot of a love story from the way it started out. HOwever, it turned out to be a pretty good lobve story. Terry Mcmillan is a wonderful writer and is well respected ast the school I attend. I really enjoyed all of her books from Momma to Waiting to exhale. Keep up the good work Ms. Mcmillan and keep your readers wondering what's next, because that is certainly what I am thinking right now.

Summary: i think i should become a writer...
Review: I actually read this book when it came out, but i thought i'd give my opinion anyway. For starters...too many run-on sentences. I usually don't mind the whole train-of-thought thing, but it was getting a little out of control. I can't remember how many times I had to go back and re-read certain paragraphs. The plot was elementary, and to me, it was completely unrealistic. I don't understand how someone could be so unaffected and careless about losing a job (no matter how much they make). A vacation is understandable- it would probably be a good idea before taking another job, especially if you had the means to do so, but if this person has a child- what should the first priority be? I'm not dissing the older woman- younger man thing, i have no problems with that. I just didn't feel that this could happen in real life- back and forth to Jamaica to see someone you don't know that well, exposing your son to this....Maybe it should be classified as fantasy?? I really enjoyed the writing in Waiting to Exhale, and after reading this book, i felt deflated. I guess it succeded in taking my mind off the fact that i was stuck in the back seat on a long car trip, but it's too bad you can't return books if you don't like them. Hey, if this is bestseller material, I'm in the wrong field.

Summary: Very UnTerrylistic.
Review: I thought this was the worst writing and portrayal of a baby bommer I have ever read, Terry I know she can do better because I have read EXHALE,DISAPPEARING ACTS, AND MAMA and I know she can do better I think it was rushed and everyone was expecting this brilliant Novel but she fooled everyone I think Terry was just teaching us a lesson, A true artist never loses it audience,no matter what kind of junk it is, We will all go and watch the movie and read her next novel because she is Terry MacMillan.

Summary: Great summer vacation reading
Review: I'm a white 30 something woman who loves Terry McMillan! She has great things to say about women in general and she gives me a real appreciation of black women in particular. Confirming everything that I've long suspected about the sense of dignity, pride and community that black people have.

While not exactly deep or life changing this story was fun with a great message. I've read it multiple times and will always have a soft spot in my heart for it.

Summary: Debating whether to finish or not
Review: It's not even the run-on sentences that I mind, but the constant back and forth with being happy and sad, happy and mad, etc. By reading these reviews I have found out how the book ends. This is good. Now I don't have to finish it unless I dare go through one more long sentence about how she thinks she's too old and he's too young (BLAH-blah-blah). Just get on with the story already. I can't stand the tediousness of it all. The best character in this whole book is sweet little Quincy (the only character who seems to have his head on straight). WTE was much better to read.

Summary: Hilarious,Funny,and Stunning
Review: Terry as always did a great job. I say to keep your head up girl and give us some more. I took this book on a trip with me and it was great. I passed it on to a close friend and she told me of dreams that related to this wish all women had. This book is truly a dream that I want to happen for me when I'm that age. Good Job!!

Summary: Sisters, you're never too old! Go for it like Stella did!
Review: Terry McMillan once again reminded us how precious our lives are, and that we should live it and take the chance once it comes our way. Never mind our age. We are just as young as we are at heart. Stella is a brilliant example to all of us women - an independent, intelligent woman and a wonderful mother who knows what she wants and is determined to get it. She knows what life is all about, and is certainly not going to waste a minute of it. Go for it, and join her! You'll love the groove! An enjoyable, easy-going book. Will definitely recomend it to my friends as I've done with Terry's previous books. Thanks for the good laughs, Terry, when's you're next one out?
