Rating: Summary: I THINK THE BOOK WAS EXCELLENT Review: THE BOOK TOUCHED MY SOUL AS IT DID STELLA'S, I RECCOMMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONE WHO FEELS THEY HAVE LOST THEIR GROOVE AND THEY NEED TO GET IT BACK. TAKE CHANCES, LIVE DANGEROUSLY, FULLFILL YOUR PURPOSE, JUMP BEFORE YOU THINK, IT'LL ALL WORK OUT IN THE END.
Rating: Summary: This book is just what us sisters needed! Review: I loved this book! I remember reading it in the basement of our new house in August of 1994 and finishing the entire book in ONE DAY! I was so happy to finally read a book about a sista with money, power, respect and the love of a man that was willing to cross different social barriers just to make her smile. It was refreshing and a true romance that had me yearning for a young Romeo of my own! (I'm 21!!) Miss Terry out-did herself with this book. If you have a passon for love stories and have a heart for romance, comedy, and the joy that just a little walk on the wild side can bring, READ IT! You'll be calling up travel agencies checking ticket prices to Jamaica! You won't be dissapointed, I promise :-)
Rating: Summary: Fun, Fun, Fun Review: What a fun book! No, it will never be a literary classic, but it was so fun to read. I felt like I was on vacation. It's a fairy tale for adults. Hey, it could happen. I believe the run-on sentences reflect the way women think -- fast, in one long string. It made perfect sense to me.
Rating: Summary: Stella's Groove is obviously not for everyone Review: I read this book when it first hit the book shelves and loved it loved it loved it. It was a perfect summer read. I was concidering re-reading it before the movie opened and that is what brought me to these reviews. I admit the stream of consciousness writing required a little time to get used to but it was a welcome change from the same ole same ole and well worth the effort. This style of writing was a perfect match for the book. I felt as if I had really gotten into Stella's head and it endeared her to me. After reading these reviews, it is obvious that not everyone can relate to Stella's Groove but the same can be said for any book and any protagonist. Relating to Stella may require that you become aquainted with that part of yourself that has the potential to be a free spirit. The book's message "Life is short, play hard!". Personally I can not wait to see Ms. Basset bring Stella to life. As for Ms. McMillan. Keep on writing girl and please keep ! experimenting with your writing style and bringing us stories ALL women can relate to.
Rating: Summary: Trite and boring Review: Adds nothing to the romance genre. The sex scenes aren't even interesting. What a self-absorbed, boring heroine. And a gormless, sappy hero. Materialism and narcissism rool, ok!
Rating: Summary: This book was a waste of paper and time!!!! Review: While reading this book I was completely disgusted by the unrealistic pattern that was drawn. This was the story of a rich woman that was on sex-capade in Jamaica. I don't have any reservations about younger men and older women, but really what was the point in Terry telling us about her adventures in Jamaica. We, her readers were not amused by this stinging episode. She may want to take a few lessons from her sister Rosalyn.
Rating: Summary: A pretty good book once you get past the run on sentences Review: Once you get past the run on sentences, "How Stellas Got Her Grove Back", was a pretty good, decent book to read. I read it over the Christmas Holidays and I don't reget one minute spent reading it. It was a different style of writing but one you could relate to if you are willing to stop and listen to yourself once in awhile. Can't wait for the movie to premiere. In my area we just started a book club and chose this book as the 1st one and we're planning to see the movie together. Here's to Stella!!!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining, but not redeeming Review: Is this what her books are all about (not that I think it was bad)? I mean, if you're looking for a read in a noisy bus or train or caught in a traffic jam, look no further. It was funny and entertaining, and the run-on sentences, which were many, added to the entertainment. Certainly, this must be her train of thought, but do we have to be subjected to these run-on's? I would not hope that her other books are like this (now I am curious to read that "Waiting to Exhale"), unless the writing style appeals to the new generation(s). The smells of Jamaica and the characters (good smells, mind you) are alive---that she successfully evoked.
Rating: Summary: It was like an unmarked box of chocolate Review: I have been so tired of of books about African American women that have been real 'downers'. EG just about everything in the Oprah book club. Not all of life has a terrible ending. The male protagonist Winston is just a decent human being, without a lot of baggage. Hey-They do exist, really I've met them. Meet all of these richly developed characters in this book, it makes you laugh and feel all warm inside
Rating: Summary: What happened??? The worst written book!! Review: I have read all of Terry's books, but for the life of me, I could not read this book. It is the worst written book I have ever tried to read! There are pages and pages in this book with NO punctuations PERIOD. Since I use my local library, I'm so glad that I did not pay for this book, I took it back in 2 days after I Tried to read it. I read Waiting to Exhale and HATED the movie! I only hope this movie is better than the book! Everyone is entitled to one mistake, and Terry, this is yours!
