Rating: Summary: The book was the bomb and the movie was Hiroshima. Review: I loved Stella's groovy book. It was a little wordy but I most definitely got the point. Terry Mcmillian explained on -Tavis Smiley- night show that the book was wordy on purpose, she wanted us to feel as though we were in Stella's shoes (no, that is not a direct quote, I'm typing from memory if that's okay). When were talking to our girlfriends or homies, we hardly if ever pause to start a new paragraph. I do agree with another "Roger and Ebert" reviewer, Stella's sister did die too quick. The movie at least dwelled on her character a little more to tell us what she was about. "Shakespere" with his fine self portrayed his character very well, as indeed Stella's baby boy. Angela Bassett is a wonderful actress. When Stella was written I think Terry had Angela in mind with Taye Diggs not to far behind. Greatttt job Angela, Taye, Whoopi and all supporting actors and actresses.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyed the Book... Review: I enjoyed the book, I was impressed with Stella's strengths. However, I was disappointed in the Movie. I sure many women can agree to enjoying a hot, steamy romance. Contending with, kids, a career and family is certainly enough to lose your grove. Hopefully, soon I will get my groove back!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: I'm 17 and I loved it. Keep up the good work. Review: I loved the book it was very interesting and I finished the whole book in a couple of days. I read all of your books except Mama(but I plan on reading it soon). You write really good books and I wish I had your talents. You are really down to earth and I can't wait for your next book. What's up with your sister Raslyn I read her book "Knowing" and I loved that as well. I can see you have a really talented family. Anyway keep up the good work and stay strong.
Rating: Summary: Great movie, very good book! Review: I am listening to the Recorded Books audio version of How Stella Got... I saw the movie first, and am I glad I did! I didn't like the fact that Whoopi Goldberg's character in the movie had already died in the book at the very beginning. I think she was GREAT!< and a good influence on Stella. I find myself alternately laughing with Stella's ramblings, saying you go girl, and telling her to shut up already, he wants you! It is a little long, with her rambling on about everything, and yet I am entertained by her. Lynne Thigpen reads this very well.
Rating: Summary: A love story of a vonger man and older woman. Review: HOW STELLA GOT HER GROOVE BACK by Terry McMillan is a very good novel. I liked the book because it's a simple story about two people that meet in Jamaica and end up falling in love. The problem is that one lives in San Francisco and is 42 years old and the other actually lives in Jamaica and is 21. It's also a good book because I know that this situation happeneds quite often and that many people can relate to it. It's a typical love story that has it's regular ups and downs that every real relationship has. If you saw the movie and liked it, then you should read the book because you'll like it even more. I'm sure that if the situation of age difference or living distance hasn't happend to you yet, it will in your life some time or another and this book could help you...
Rating: Summary: an excellent read, I could not put it down until I was done Review: This was an amazing book. Stella was a very vivid character; she was a strong, and independent woman who could look after herself and her son. The story was just so realistic, what we'd all like to happen sometimes. How Stella Got Her Groove Back was one of those books that you have to sit down and read until you're done. Very enjoyable!!!
Rating: Summary: This has been the best one yet! Review: Stella started off slow, but once it got groving it was all that! This book was the best. I was in a whole new world and I had a blast, I recomend that you read this book. And even if you have seen the movies version READ the book it's a must read!
Rating: Summary: An engaging read Review: This was a very good book. Terry McMillan's writing style gave authenticity to Stella's thoughts. Each time she agonized over Winston's actions or perceived inactions as he tried to enter into a relationship with her, you felt as if you actually were her. This was truly a book where the lead character's disapointments were your disappointments and her joy was yours!
Rating: Summary: Boooring!!!!!! Review: Luckily I saw the movie the before reading the book, because I wouldn't have gone based on the book. The book had the complete opposite effect on me then "Waiting to Exhale". I enjoyed reading "Waiting to Exhale" but wasn't too crazy about the movie and with "Stella" I enjoyed the movie but hated the book. I'm a avid reader by nature and I had a very hard time reading this book, I had to force myself NOT to put it down, I could hardly wait until I was finished, it was far too long and too boring and it seemed that it was written in a rush, and the run-on sentences along with the rambling on and on was quite annoying. It seemed like Terry was trying to reach a quota for the amount of pages that had to be written. I would highly recommend the movie (which I saw 3 times) and I will buy the video when it comes out, but I give the book 2 thumbs down. Refund please!!!
Rating: Summary: It was a great book. Review: How Stella Got her groove back, is one of Terry McMillan's best works. I liked this book, because I can relate to character in the story. Her book dealt with real life situations, as with all of her works. I give this book two thumbs up. Terry keep up the good work.
