Rating: Summary: My new all time favorite book Review: I stayed up late finishing this book, usually something I only do for thrillers and mysteries. What an incredible story. This book touches so many subjects with wit and humor, and is so inspiring. I haven't seen the movie, but I can't imagine any movie doing the book justice.
Rating: Summary: I wish I'd lived in Whistle Stop! Review: Anyone who saw the movie and loved it, be prepared. The book is far superior to the movie and has even more likeable characters and interesting stories. The relationship between generations made the book for me. An elderly woman sharing her life experiences with a middle aged woman. A story of the depression being told to a woman of the 80's. It made me laugh and cry, and effectively captured the emotions of a woman's heart. Incidentally, for anyone interested, there IS a Whistle Stop Cafe modeled after Fannie Flagg's in Juliette, GA.
Rating: Summary: Oh, that books like this were written everyday! Review: The movie, which was wonderful, did not do this book justice. Ms Flagg has written with so much texture that one can sweat the summer heat, smell the cafe's foods, and feel the love these characters have for each other. A wonderful book I have shared with everyone I know.
Rating: Summary: A touching, aesthetic piece that I can never get enough of! Review: This book is so real, so touching, and so addictive! I didn't want it to end. At times, it was somewhat confusing due to the change in scenery, time, and characters, but I never knew really what to expect. It kept me reading, and I could relate to all the feeling the author put into this book. I would definitely recommend this book to people who are touched by novels as I was touched by this one.
Rating: Summary: A timeless story of a by-gone era Review: I read the book twice and practically wore the movie out watching it. To me, it has become my 'feel-good' movie when things are looking down and my day full of clouds. From the first time I saw it, it grabbed at my spirit and tugged at my heart. It's one story I'll never forget.
Rating: Summary: Better than the movie! Review: I was fortunate to stumble across this book before the movie came out... I read it on vacation, sat on the beach, laughing out loud... then crying... and always loving it... one of my all-time favorite books ever!!! The book gives you so much more than the movie in terms of depth of character, etc. Don't miss it!
Rating: Summary: Gotta love Idgie! Review: Goodness, do I ever love this book! :) I love the characters, love the humour, love just about everything about it. Fannie Flagg, you're a genius! At first, when I saw the movie, I couldn't help but be intrigued to read the book Amazingly, the book is just as g...no, no, it's EVEN BETTER! It was as if I had been right there in the story sharing the joy and memories of the characters. It was extremely well writtened and it's one of my personal favourites. Even if I hadn't watched the movie, I would have come around to loving it just the same. It's destined for us to adore this story :) Most of all, I have to say, "Gotta love Idgie!" A role model and heroine for all. The magical part is how the memories of Idgie and Ruth helped Evelyn to reconize her own courage and confidence. Nope, I'm NOT gonna let anyone not to like this book. Read it, love it, live it. The one of the messages of the book is: Live your life! --that's the spirit!
Rating: Summary: I could not put this book down for the life of me!!! Review: I have an extremely short attention span for fiction books/novels. This story is very true to ol' Southern days (according to grandma) and historically accurate (setting, speech, etiquette, racism, etc). I was extremely involved in this book. Fannie grabs you by the throat and shoves the beauty and grace of this story down your throat (and welcoming, I must say). Her words make you feel as if you know these characters and have met them sometime before. I was sorry to see this book end. Since finishing this story 3-5 years ago, I have yet to find another match--Fannie, please write one more!
Rating: Summary: worthy fiction Review: I read very little fiction, as a rule, because most of it seems to be cut from the same cloth. However when I realized that one of my favorite movies was based on a book, I had to get it. I was not disappointed. Although the movie and book differ in many ways, the true essence of the story is the same. This is the "feel good" book of the century!
Rating: Summary: THE MOST DELICIOUS BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER READ!!! Review: When I first picked up this book at the school library,I had no idea that I would be affected so much by it! I thought,oh well,it's a movie,so why not read it? It might be interesting.Oh,I was so right! I enjoyed all of the sections in the book, and how the author was able to shift back and forth from the80's,to the 30's,and all the different time periods in between them. All the charecters warmed my heart, and i'm sure they'll warm yours too. I just saw the movie a few week s ago,and it was just as good as the book. Even though many things were changed, and that they came up with a different ending,it still brought a tear to my eye.
