Summary: Women are stronger than ever but somtimes we must "Exhale!"
Review: When I read this book I was like it could only take a real experienced women to write a book so true and realistic. The book tells of how women have been treated like dogs for a long time. Now they are begininng to realize that men aren't the world women are.It shows that no matter what goes on your friends are always there when you need them.It describes the unique character of each women and thier indiviualitiy to overcome the odds.I recommend this book to all the women of the world. You see I know that all the women of the world have been through this and if not then they will.So to the women I say just wait to "EXHALE."

Summary: Will definitely re-read it eventually
Review: I kept trying to decide which of the four women was my favorite -- which for me means I'm really getting involved! Another clue that I loved it -- I now do not want to see the movie because I don't want to be disappointed in how the characters are portrayed.

One problem I had, though... When the married woman's husband leaves her, it is for a white woman and I was put off by her and her friends' horror and disgust, i.e., a WHITE woman? WHITE! If I was reading a book about a white woman considering it salt in the wound that her husband left her for a black woman, I would assume the author was portraying the character as unsympathetic -- and I would see her as such.

But other than that, I loved the book. Great dialogue!

Summary: Some men are dogs; so what else is new?
Review: 'Waiting to Exhale' adds up to a few stereotypical caricatures plus a somewhat raggedy plot... so why was the book so popular? For one thing, it is falling-down-funny; for another, it tells a few home truths; and mainly, because the characters are people all of us have known at one time or another, regardless of ethnic or class background: Bernardine is every wife whose despicable jerk of a husband dumps her for a younger woman; Robin and Savannah are every woman with a genius for picking the wrong man; Russell is every wrong man; and Michael is every wrong right man (good husband material and zero in bed). McMillan clearly has sympathy for her four female protagonists; Robin may be dumber than a box of rocks when it comes to men, but you can't help liking her. McMillan is not a very deep writer and WTE is not a very deep book, but it's funny, perceptive, well written, and well worth reading.

Summary: It's about time
Review: I like to thank Ms.Mcmillan for writing this book. This book tells the truth about some men and what they will do to women.Waiting to Exhale is beautifully written literature about the relationships of couples.

Summary: Hilarious! Smooth flowing
Review: I literally laughed out loud every time I picked this book up! Ms. McMillan has really got it going on. I had tears rolling down my face at the beauty shop one day. I don't think the movie was half as good, but that's always the case. I will give this one a few years and pick it up and read it again!

Terri McMillan, Congratulations on a job well done!

Summary: I waited to this moment
Review: I like this book because i find it very funny and interesting. I like it because in a sense that you can relate to it. The story is about four women pretty much have same problems which is searching to the right man to come into thier lives, someone who can take care of them and tell them that everything will be alright. One character also gets divorced and get very and angry because the husband wants to marry a white bookkeeper. I would recommend this book for those who likes to read romantic and adventure book.

Summary: Very amusing. Also a wonderful and compelling book
Review: I am amused at the nasty one star reviewers who feel that Waiting To Exhale is ONLY about black people, a kind of press conference for inter racial subject matter. Have you ever read Moby Dick? If so, I am here to tell you that is not about whales, not really-- and it is not about White whales either. I don't have time to teach the alphabet to nasty folks but I will try: Waiting To Exhale is a NOVEL. NOVELS are not to be taken literally, they are creative expressions. I can just see the surprised look on some simple faces -- go back to your Nickelodean, don't even bother with literature, stick to HIGHLIGHT magazine, and maybe -- maybe -- Goodnight Moon. Anyway I loved it; laughed out loud even the second time through. LOVE her way with dialogue and character. McMillan is a fresh and powerful voice who has, because of her extreme success and popularity, become a sometime target for the bitter and the jealous, not to mention the feeble. Spike Lee wrote a lengthy book jacket quote for the book, in support of Ms. McMillan, addressing the Black male issue as it pertains to the book, and perhaps this should be enlightening to those who care to look further. Spike Lee is not in the habit of suffering fools or racism -- so get a clue. His support and the support of thousands of loyal fans (black, white, red, yellow and purple) should prove that McMillan is a talent -- yes indeed, there are some who know how to read, not REED.

Summary: It's not this woman's thing
Review: I asked a black friend (I am white) if this was a "black" thing or a "woman" thing b/c I was intriqued, hearing ravings of male-bashing in the press. She also loved it and said it was a "woman" thing. It was about black women with miserable lives as far as I'm concerned and it was very unenjoyable. Not for everyone obviously and whether that's a race issue or not, I don't know.

Summary: If you love to laugh and cry you won't put this book down.
Review: Four totally different women and different backgrounds come together and support each other. Terry McMillian's best selling novel Waiting to Exhale captures the true meaning of sisterhood. With the characters Bernadine, Savannah, Gloria and Robin, Terry takes us through alot of laughs and many tears. When I read the book I could not put it down. As a Black woman living in a world of such back stabbing it was nice to see true friendship among Black women. This book gave me hope of finding that. Everyone should chose to read this book, you will never regret your choice

Summary: Very Good
Review: I read this book about 4 years ago when I was 16, and might I add very STUPID. To think that when I was that age(16) I thought that the women in this book, is what you grow up to become. How ridiculous.I just watched the movie 2 weeks ago. And I was so disappointed that these women where 30 years old and they were worse than anybody my age(20) with men. It was so sad,it took them entirely to long to get it together and realize that you won't ever find anyone in this world to fill up your broken places,[except(what I believe from experience)but God!] That just goes to show you that though adults may be older, they may not necessarily be wiser. Miss Mcmillan is an EXCELLENT writer though, with her characters being as realistic as they come because I have heard, met and read(biographies),and been friends with women such as these. It sad that art truly does imitate life,as proven in this book. The writing was descriptive and very detailed but the characters I would love for them to truly have gotten it COMPLETELY together in the end!
