Rating: Summary: Nothing But A Number Review: MY DAUGHTER'S BOYFRIEND is complex cautionary tale about family breakdown and forbidden love. In this, her premier effort, author Cydney Rax does a terrific job in adding a stunning twist to the often taboo subject of intergenerational relationships, and weaving it into a bittersweet tapestry of raw emotions, unbridled passion and lust. Tracey, the protagonist, is a thirty something single mom who has had her share of dysfunctional relationships and heartbreak. When a sudden and unexpected attraction starts to develop between herself and her daughter's boyfriend, Tracey is at first ambivalent and cautious. As their mutual physical attraction intensifies, she finds herself embracing it with wild abandon and a selfish disregard for her daughter's emotions. Soon things start spiraling out of control and Tracey becomes faced with the possibility of alienating her only child and must make the decision of a lifetime. MY DAUGHTER'S BOYFRIEND is a credible and cleverly crafted story with titillating love scenes and memorable characters. Cydney Rax has skillfully created a book that is both thought provoking and captivating. Her ability to grab her reader's attention and keep it is laudable. This is a successful first novel for this talented author.Reviewed by Autumn of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers
Rating: Summary: Well I Never Review: Oh Lordy. I have never read anything so horrible in my life. Now I could just trash it for no reason, but I actually have examples to back up my disgust for this book (for the money I spent on it, I could have gotten a weekly MetroCard or a pair of Payless shoes or a flu vaccination). Cydney Rax apalled me with her amateur writing skills. The book was full of sentence fragments ("Mouth felt that dry", et al.), the characters were static and undeveloped (Lauren had no personality, but was not to be outdone by her mother and boyfriend who each had the personality of a toothbrush), and the plot was slow and unbelievable. Yes, a situation like this can happen, but I hope it happens to more interesting people if it does. By the way, Lauren spent the novel packing and going to the airport--that's quality reading?! I think not. Cydney Rax would be better off if she got a job at Waffle House. I'd like my money back.
Rating: Summary: It Goes There Review: The author tackles this taboo topic with sensitivity, insight and courage. No matter what your feelings regarding a mother who sleeps with her daughter's boyfriend (and it's safe to assume most of us agree it's despicable), the author should be commended for dealing with such a racy subject head on and unflinchingly.
Cydney Rax puts faces, voices and feelings to a situation most of us would avoid like the plague. The best fiction takes us places we normally would not go -it gives us an entertaining way to vicariously experience things foreign or off limits to us, and thereby opens up healthy dialogue about the risks, the fallout and the lasting consequences of such a taboo act without having to actually go through the drama ourselves. And that's exactly what this book does - it goes there without us having to "go there."
Job well done, Cydney. Thanks for bringing something new and daring to the table. Looking forward to reading your next book!
Rating: Summary: My Daughter's Boyfriend Review: This book was a phenomenal read. I read it first and was so intrigued with the book that I recommended it to my book club, now it is up for our book of the month nomination. Cyndey Rax is a fantastic upcoming new author that I believe will have a bright future. I will catagorize her with some of the best like Mary B. Morrison, E.Lynn Harris, Victoria Christopher Murray among others. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm looking forward to her next novel.
