Rating: Summary: Light Hearted and Heart Warming Review: Boy oh boy ~ I'm not sure why all of you Jan fans can't seem to be happy and warmed by this sweet tale. It was my first Jan book and I am using it as a team building project for our holiday staff retreat. Perhaps the rest of you with the negative reviews should try reading this little joyful "story" for what it can do for your spirit not for what you expect. It inspired me to buy the 5 book collection just to get to know her. It is a wonderful display of team building and what it takes to get things done in a society where it seems everyone is concerned with their on benefit instead of pulling together! Thank you.
Rating: Summary: Consider yourself "snowed" if you purchase this book! Review: DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, WASTE your hard-earned dollars on this bit of nothingness! I rarely find a book unworthy of my time, but this one earned that distinction. There is no moral, there is no plot, it does not qualify as anything more than an advertisement for the series of Mitford Snowmen collectibles!
Rating: Summary: The Mitford Snowmen Review: Don't waste your money. It takes less that 10 min. to read and I didn't even find it very entertaining. I was so disappointed! I have enjoyed all of Jan Karon's other books but I feel she wrote a few lines to earn some extra cash. I am so disappointed I may not buy another thing that she writes!

Rating: Summary: The Mitford Snowmen will make you warm inside Review: Even though this book is small in size and there are only 23 pages, the content is all Jan Karon. If you're a fan of Ms. Karon and her magically Mitford world, you'll love this small book. It brings you right back to downtown Mitford with all the personal descriptions that I have come enjoyed about Mitford. This book will get you into the holiday spirit and will have you making snowmen in no time (even if you don't have snow). It may even inspire you to purchase the 4 piece snowmen set that have been created via Hallmark. I know am a proud owner of 4 wonderful snowmen ornaments and each time I look at them, I see Mitford. I anticipate every book that Ms. Karon creates and can't wait for the next.
Rating: Summary: Give Jan Karon a Break! Review: I agree with Calyndula; this is a cute little book - a perfect holiday gift with wonderful, warm illustrations worthy of Mitford itself. Perhaps some of the early reviewers were expecting another novel from JK, but this is a very nicely done "franchise extension." Sometimes buying a book without the opportunity to "thumb through" results in surprises - maybe even disappointment, but one shouldn't blame the author. The Hallmark snowmen apparently were as big a hit as the book (NYT best-sellers for weeks), because the snowmen were certainly hard to find in stock.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I am probably the biggest Mitford fan in the world. I love all of the books in the series, but The Mitford Snowmen was a huge disappointment. The plot was very loose-ended. A snowman building contest starts, but Karon doesn't tell us HOW it got started. The characters are totally undeveloped, so we lose that "down-home" sense that has made Mitford so popular. Even the illustrations are disappointing. The only illustration worth looking at was the one of the snowmen--which is the only page worth the one star I gave this book. Very disappointing.
Rating: Summary: An insult. I was cheated. Not worth 5 cents Review: I am so sorry to see that Jan Karon, a writer who started out with a lovely vision for her Mitford books, has reached the point of simply cashing in on her success by publishing absolute utter junk. I have enjoyed the Mitford books, even though I know they are schmaltzy and predictable. I immerse myself in the charm of the settings and just follow the stories along, learning something about faith along the way. This Snowmen book is NOT worthy of Ms. Karon, of the Mitford series, or of Ms. Karon's devoted fans. In fact, it is an INSULT. It has nothing to say, it isn't even a short story (much less a book), and you can whip through it about as quickly as reading a story aloud to a toddler. I advise the author to wait until she has a real plot in mind before coming out with a new book, and then she should make it a book that an adult can spend at least several evenings reading. In the meantime, if Ms. Karon needs money this badly, perhaps she should get a job like the rest of us.
Rating: Summary: Rip off Review: I can't believe that Jan Karon would publish a works that wouldn't even qualify as a "short story." This book has 14 1/2 pages of text, pages being the size of a greeting card. I read it in less than 10 minutes. The story itself was not up to the Karon quality. It sounded more like an unenthusiastic 8th grader doing an assignment. I am so disappointed in this book. I have read her first book "At Home in Mitford" seven times. Every time I finish books on hand, I pick up this book and enjoy it as much as I did the first time. I love these books because I was raised in a Mitford, and the rector of my church is a "Father Tim." I have read all of her Father Tim books and love all. I am waiting for another "real" book.
Rating: Summary: Not even worthy of being a book... Review: I could type the entire book in this section and save you the trouble of checking it out, but I won't, because that would be copyright infringement. But this book is less than 1000 words. There isn't even a moral to the story - it's just a story about several of the Mitford residents building snowmen in front of the stores on Main Street. This is SUCH an obvious attempt to milk the Mitford series for more money without having to actually write another novel. I was EXTREMELY disappointed. I wasn't expecting a long story, but I was expecting something to happen! Philip Gulley writes short stories in all of his books and each of them have a meaning or moral and most aren't that much longer than this book. Seems to me that it would have been easy enough to write a short story with a moral or lesson, but alas, no. Read it IN the library - don't even bother checking the book out.
