Rating: Summary: Neurotically Hilarious!!! Review: I read this book in less than 2 days. Bridget's character is captivating and quite funny!!!
Rating: Summary: Postfeminist units: 1000s (v. good? v. bad? your call) Review: At its worst, this is the comic strip Cathy, but with sex. At its best, it's wine-up-your-nose hilarious. Helen ain't Henry, and Bridget ain't Tom, but hey, who wants to haul 1,200 pages of literature to the beach? This is the quintessential summer read, friendly and forgettable.
Rating: Summary: Afflatus Review: What's all the fuss? Do we really need a 250-page summary of the life of the desperately single, catalogued daily and ad-nauseum by the number of cigarettes she's smoked and tiny fluctuations in her weight? I'm all for Singles Empowerment and International Understanding, and I'll be the first to appreciate Brit humo(u)r. But after the first 50 pages, you've seen it all. And how about some complete sentences? This doesn't pass literary muster.
Rating: Summary: laugh out loud book Review: read this book in one day because i could not put it down. i just kept laughing out loud. highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Very amusing... Review: When I started this book, I almost put it down. It seemed too much like a TV sitcom. Then, I thought, hey, wait a minute, this is summer. It's the season to read light books. I'm glad I did. I'm not sure that Bridget Jones reveals the "secret" life of every women. But, she does capture the thoughts that most people (everyone?) has from time to time. This book left me laughing out loud.
Rating: Summary: Bridget Jone's Diary kept me glued Review: I took two books on vacation, thinking I probably would not have time to read them. Needless to say on the plane back I had nothing to read. I started Bridget Jone's Diary one day, and finished it that same day. I could not put it down, I was completely glued to it. I really think any woman who has a mother, has tried to lose weight, or has been on occasion infatuated with a guy will truly enjoy this book. Sure Bridget is neurotic, but we all are at some points in our lives. It was one of the best books I have read in quite a while. It was just simply awesome, and I truly enjoyed it. I have to say though, men might not be interested by it.
Rating: Summary: The Funniest Book I've Read in Ages Review: For the 30-something set, this book will hit home in many, many amusing ways. I felt like I knew Bridget, and particularly her family and friends. The Smug Marrieds brought bursts of laughter. I was reading this on an airplane, and people were staring.I can't recommend this book enough... it's a light, fun read. Perfect for the beach.
Rating: Summary: Bloody crap Review: All I could think of was, Helen Fielding is laughing all the way to the bank with this one. People must be starved for entertainment, as this "diary" was so poorly written, not at all funny, and an insult to women, with its stereotypical depiction of them as man-hungry and desperate. If you want to read a really funny, British diary/novel, please read THE DIARIES OF ADRIAN MOLE. There is a real character for you. Bridget Jones' Diary is only good for wrapping fish.
Rating: Summary: Ab Fab Darling! Review: When I first heard of this book, I cringed thinking it would be another "secrets of the pathetic woman" novel. You know what? I was right. However, what makes Helen's book different is you know she is telling the truth. She may not be "Bridget," but she knows her. The same as I know her, and I suspect many single women know her. I loved the "battle of the vices" (ie, smokes, drinks, diets, thinks negative thoughts, *69's, did I say drinks?) What I loved even more was the denial. Sure, not every single woman can 100% ID with poor Bridgett, but every woman would be lieing if they didn't see something familiar.
Rating: Summary: It's nice to know that my struggles are not unique. Review: Reading Bridget Jones's Diary was like taking a peek into my private life. I was relieved to know that other women have the same kind of compulsions and thoughts such as being single, the weighing game, and mothers!
