Rating: Summary: The quest for inner poise Review: Wow! what an amazing book. I hated it....when I turned to February and realized there were only 11 more months to go. (By the way, who let Helen Fielding into my head?) Life's about searching, and Bridget Jones certainly is searching--for Inner Poise, for a great job, for the perfect body, and of course, for that elusive perfect boyfriend. This book won't tell you how to get any of those; instead, it helps you laugh at how serious we often take ourselves. This is a little strange, but...it's changed my life.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely hilarious and right on the mark! Review: As a twenty-something "Singleton" this book really described all the funny twists of life in a medium level job and in a society where the marrieds think we're all missing something. This book is perfect for anyone who has ever been in a realtionship or just considered taking the leap. It's just great.
Rating: Summary: unusual style and entertaining Review: The style is unusual, but once you have read a few chapters the style really gets you involved. It is entertaining - you can relate to what is says and it does make you laugh out loud.
Rating: Summary: "Diary" is a transcript of your own thoughts - only funnier! Review: Ms. Fielding has successfully created the character of Bridget - the quintessential embodiment of single-femalehood in the 90s - as a realistic, clever woman who holds as many insecurities as the rest of us. Fielding's protagonist captures our hearts from the onset when she introduces her hopelessly hysterical family members continuing strongly to the finale where wisdom and clairvoyance prevail after a hectic year of change. Wonderful read - especially if you're a single, urban woman with unrealistic yet unwavering desires and a penchant for stumbling upon the ridiculous. Highly recommend it. Was given to me, by the way, by my own "Shazzer," when I was having a very Bridgetesque bad day.
Rating: Summary: A Funny and intelligent novel Review: I devoured "Bridget Jones's Diary" in one day. I started to read and i couldn't put it down. And it's not like I can identify with her : I'm fifteen years old. But, it made me laugh, and the story flowed very easily with each turn of the page. Bridget is a woman in her 30's who is single, witty, and slightly neurotic. She smokes too much, drinks too much and can't seem to find a decent man. Through the course of a year, you get to follow Bridget as she tries to live her sometimes hectic life. I think, that if are a women, and you suddenly have the time to just sit and read a good book....this is the one. - Jen
Rating: Summary: A modern day Elizabeth & Darcy Review: I enjoyed every page. It is laugh out loud funny and touching at the same time. Anyone that enjoys Jane Austin's take on love and manners will enjoy this 90's take on the same. I look forward to more by this author.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Review: Even though I've still got a ways to go till I'm 30-something I thought it was a great book. You do have to know a bit of British humor and slang, but if you don't it can make it more funny. I thought it was great and I didn't want it to end. I think the movie version woud be hilarious.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Well done, actually! Review: I love British culture and humor and as a single, American 30-something, living in Washington, DC -- I related entirely! From e-mail messages to diary entries -- Fielding's novel is a great read! I laughed reading page after page. I'm looking forward to a sequel -- "Another Year in the Life of Bridget Jones."
Rating: Summary: The movie may be better than the book Review: After hearing so much about this book, I couldn't wait to read it. However, I must say that I was disappointed. The story is entertaining, albeit a bit far-fetched. The style is not quite like a diary. In fact, it's almost like a knock-off of the Adrian Mole Diaries (which are far superior). The jacket said that is being made into a film by the people who made "Four Weddings and a Funeral." I think that the story might be better in that format.
Rating: Summary: Very funny, escapist stuff Review: I loved this book; found it to be exactly the kind of quick, light read that's perfect for summer. While in some ways Bridget can seem a bit pathetic/desperate, on the other hand she has a number of attitudes and views that I found frighteningly familiar! The perfect antidote for too much stress and reality in your life!
