Rating: Summary: Not Worth the Hype Review: After reading rave reviews of this book, I was very disappointed. (Especially that I bought it in hardcover!!!) It reads like an article out of "Seventeen" magazine. Who cares how many cigarettes she smoked and how much weight she lost or gained....or lost....or gained....??? It was funny in the beginning, but tedious as it went on....and on...and on. If this book can get published than I should send my journals to Viking and make a million bucks. My life is far more interesting. On the plus side...there are some funny bits and the prose flows nicely. I wasn't bored reading it, but I can't say I was disappointed when I finished it.
Rating: Summary: Read it. And die laughing. Review: My favorite part? The communal changing room. "There are always girls who know they look fantastic in everything and dance around beaming, swinging their hair and doing model poses in the mirror saying, "Does it make me look fat?" to their obligatory obese friend who looks like a water buffalo in anything." Who can't relate to that??? Now that's comedy! And, aaaah, of course... let's not forget the catchphrase of Bridget's - and god knows, our - life: "Honey... I thought you said she was thin..." PS: Do not read in public.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous Review: I have passed this book along to five different friends and every one of them has loved it. The antics Bridget goes through enable one to realize that everyone dating in their 30's must endure the ridiculous. Even if you're not single you'll enjoy her relationship with her co-workers, mother, and friends. It's really a lot of fun.
Rating: Summary: Fun and Addicting Review: If you want to laugh, this book is for you! The first book in a long time that is laugh out loud funny! I discovered Bridget while visiting New York City, and found myself reading it on the subway. With brillant humor and great writing I found myself laughing out loud, and disappointing most of my fellow traveler's. For every woman that ever felt lost or alone, this is a must read!
Rating: Summary: Every single 30-something female should read this! Review: I read this book twice. I can relate to Bridget and her daily trials and tribulations. Its nice to know I'm not the only single 30-something female out there that has to deal with Smug Marrieds and runs in my pantyhose on a daily basis. Any single woman in the 90's can relate to Bridget. I recommend it highly!
Rating: Summary: She has me nailed, poor thing Review: Two weeks ago, an electrical surge wiped out 15 years of my diary. Luckily, BJ had been there and already published it: consumed too many alcohol and tobacco units, dated too many FW units, my life's a disaster, etc. The astonishing thing about this diary is all the women who have posted reviews saying "she read my diary". I truly thought I was alone out there. I'm not!:)Thanks to all the other women who have been brave enough to say "this is me", while laughing out loud at the inanity. Um, I'm not that bad, right??
Rating: Summary: absolutely brilliant Review: Couldn't put this book down. Resulted in being late for work, missing dinner and such. Laughed so hard was mistaken for crazy person. Can't stop writing or thinking in this style. Help!
Rating: Summary: Such fun v.g read Review: Bought this on a whim in London over a year ago. I don't know if it has had a re print for U.S. readers, but it was quite a good read. Easy to put down and pick right up again. Figured out that the instants were daily lotterys, but not everyone might. How many lbs. in a stone? I've already passed this one on, and I can only hope to get it back........someday
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!! Review: I have never laughed so much. I found myself laying in bed late at night in fits of laughter and able to completly relate. I encourage anyone who is thirty something or approaching and who has experienced the horrids of the dating world to pick this up instead going to the bar one Friday night, its cheaper, less calories and more fun than anyone you would have met!
Rating: Summary: A woman with low self-esteem's obssessive searchings Review: I had trouble getting involved with this book; specifically, I never liked the character . Bridget is a shallow, self-obsessed individual that spends the book trying to find personal happiness through sex, alcohol, and complaint sessions with her friends. We women may all do this to an extent, but who has the patience to sit though page after page of it? You may find it somewhat amusing, granted, but there's no deep thoughts anywhere here. No wonder she's unhappy.
