Rating: Summary: The funniest book I've ever read! Review: Women across the board can relate to Bridget Jones! I found myself laughing on the train at her thoughts and antics because it either reminded me of myself or someone I know! Definitely a good read!
Rating: Summary: Hilarious- Great entertainment Review: I fell in love with Bridget and her many ups and downs. Laughed out loud with delight during many passages! I heartily recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: A hysterical view of the "Singleton" life. MUST READ!!!! Review: I have only begun to take up reading again, this book is a book most single women can relate to. I couldn't put it down, laughed out loud, avoided answering the phone, (1471 to find out later who it was...lol)was late for work just to finish. Us "Singletons" can so relate to the "Emotional Fuckwittage", commitment phob, or downright loser men that Bridget has spent her life wasting time with. Also, the calorie, fag, and alcohol unit counting is true to myself and all my "Singleton" friends. This book is funny, cynical, and yet very real, I can now legally change my name to Bridget Jones, as I am her, she is me (lol). If you are over 26 and facing your days single, and concerned about your weight and vices this book will make you laugh at yourself while laughing at Jones.
Rating: Summary: Hey. lighten up! It's not THAT bad Review: This is not Shakespeare. There are times when we look for something light and inconsequential for a read. Even though we might subscribe to National Geographic at home, we might feel like reading People at the doctor's office. This book is trite and simple, but sometimes this is what the reader wants. If you need something of more substance, pick John Updike or Joyce Carol Oates. Sure Bridget is self-pitying and has no "real" problems in her life, but at one point or another we might have felt this way too, sorry for ourselves because there is nothing too serious going on (disease, death, poverty, ethical issues, etc). So what? (BTW, the AllyMcBeal comment is right on).Anyhow, apart from the character of the mother, which is way too cartoonish, the book is OK. Just read it when your brain is at 35% capacity.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Hilarious!!! Review: I'm 20 and I think that this book can relate to anyone in some way. Just like Bridget, I have a million things going on in my head and in my life all at once! Helen Fielding is great! Will there be a continuum of Bridget's Diary soon?
Rating: Summary: Overrated Review: This one I heard was supposed to be phenomenal and supposedly set off the new trend of books about single women in there 20s and 30s- I thought it was OK- I expected a little more. Bridget is funny, she keeps a daily count of pounds lost, drinks drank and butts smoked. She has an affair with her boss, is neurotic over their email relationship, her parents split up and her Mom starts being a hussy.. It took me 40 or so pages to really get into it..it had some great moments but I really had expected a lot more. The ending, especially left a lot to be desired in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: I never liked to be read to, so when my boss suggested I might like to hear Bridget Jones's Diary I was less than enthusiastic. The material is wonderful and hysterical and true! Tracie Bennett's performance is brilliant :-)! Her characters are well-defined - she is a gifted actor! You will laugh out loud!!!
Rating: Summary: I must be a "Smug-Married"! Review: Call me a "Smug-Married" but I think this book stinks! Do 30-something Singletons really behave in this manner? The concept of counting calories, cigarettes (or should I say "fags"), and alcohol units was novel for the first 30 or so pages...but by the month of May, it was getting old! This type of behavior made popular by Ally McBeal is stale. God forbid if Bridget Jones had any real problems in her life!!!
Rating: Summary: LAUGH OUT LOUD FUNNY--Absolutely must read!!!!!! Review: This book was just hysterical!!! I was in a cafe laughing out loud, people thought I was crazy. Only for women though. I read some parts aloud to boyfriend-no laughter. Everyone should love and relate to Bridget Jones!!!! Loved it and will read over again!!!
Rating: Summary: LOL Review: This is one of the few books I've read recently that made me laugh out loud as I was reading. Imagine a book that keeps track of pounds weighed, lottery tickets bought, alcohol units consumed while detailing the life and loves of a thirty something wild woman. I'm older than this book's subject by more than a decade, and it definitely crosses that generation gap.
