Summary: Realistic? Get real.
Review: Excuse me, could someone remind me what century this is? Women have come way too far to deserve a book like this.

A 30 year old woman, neurotic, constantly nervous, insecure, and talented. The modern woman! Yea, right. Her main goal in life is to catch a man! Come on! The "right" man is a knight in shining armour, no less, who saves the day! Give me a break! It almost sounds like a bad chauvinistic fairy-tale.

Bridget's friends are also depicted as typically inept women. Jude, who's boy-friend is constantly putting her down, and she keeps on taking it. Sharon, the more sane and up-to-date one, is considered ridiculous. Actually, Tom seemed the most likable and true, but he too is caught in a unsatisfying relationship.

IS THERE NO ONE NORMAL OUT THERE!

Yes, this is a readable book that provides a few hours of entertainment, but - True to life? Realistic? I don't think so.

Most frustrating thing is that it's a best-seller...which again, makes me want to shout: Is there no one normal out there?

Summary: A Diary Worth Peeking At!
Review: The novel of Bridget Jone's life is worth reading. I was pleasantly surprised by the protagonist's imagination and witty remarks. A wonderful summer reading for those of us who were "single" at one time in our life. I also learned a few British slangs along the way.

Summary: To Be Read on Many Levels
Review: You can review this book on two levels. You can say, well, yes, it had a stolen plot, but on the other hand, isn't that good? It has got several of my friends to actually read the 'original' Bridget Jones (!). However, I read this book when I was twelve, and although I laughed an awful lot, I suddenly thought.... ohmigod I am going to be like this when I grow up. That kinda scared me. However, I have recomended this book to a few people. I have just a few pointers, 1)Don't read it is you're still in school, 2)Don't go into it expecting too much and 3)REMEMBER it's FICTION, okay? The problem is not with the book or Helen Fielding herself, but with the people who say, 'I feel I AM Bridget Jones.' Stay away from them.

Summary: An excellent read!
Review: I couldn't put this book down! If you are looking for a fast, amusing read - this is definitely it!

Summary: Like reading my own diary
Review: Briget Jones goes through all the trials and tribulations that many, many single women go through. As a earlt 20something I could still really relate to the life problems Briget went through. It is by far the best book I've read in the last two years.

Summary: Bridget Jones makes me LAUGH OUT LOUD
Review: Jane Austen she isn't...but Helen Fielding's modern interpretation of Pride and Prejudice is a lovely and entertaining account of the trials (however menial and shallow!) and triumphs of modern day singletons! Bridget is an endearing character--witty, observant, insecure but also strikingly self empowered. She is plagued with all the contradictions of 1990s society. The novel begins with her New Year's resolutions so it would make a great read this January. When the "smug marrieds" ask Bridget about her dating life in the first chapter, you WILL, NO DOUBT, laugh out loud! Although her next novel, AGE OF REASON, has yet to be released in the U.S., it is even more entertaining, and less predictable, than Bridget Jones Diary. A MUST READ! However, you absolutely must see the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice before reading this second work. It will greatly enhance Fielding's merciless humor!

Summary: The Best Is Yet To Come
Review: For all of you fans of Bridget (like myself) who wanted more get ready. I've just come back from London where bookstores advertise "She's Back". The sequal, The Edge of Reason, is another 5-star book filled with Bridgets adventures. You will not be dissapointd!

Summary: Absolutely Hilarious
Review: This book was simply marvelous. I am only 17 and I couldn't relate to probably half the stuff bridget went through, but I could not put the book down! This is the first time I have read a book and actually laughed out loud.

Summary: Correction to a Previous Reviewer
Review: To the reviewer from New York who gave the book one star: Jane Austen was not writing during the Edwardian era; it was the Regency. If you're going to write such a negative and pretentious review, at least get your facts right.

Summary: We All Can Relate, Admittedly or Not
Review: This book is absolutely fabulous. Wonderfully written, Briget is one character you desperately want to know and talk to about your own imperfections, life traumas and perils. You can't help but relate to her. Is she imperfect? YES. Does she question herself, her self worth, whine about her life when at times she shouldn't? Of course. But anyone who says that they don't do the exact same thing is in denial. We are all like her, if only a small part of us. Bridget Jones Diary allows us to revel in the satisfaction that being awkward and unsure in a world where you are constantly being judged is normal. We are all Briget Jones. This is one fabulous book that I would reccomend to everyone, including the Smug Marrieds.
