Rating: Summary: Entertaining fast read Review: I read this book in a matter of hours. It's funny and silly. Everyone should read something funny and silly every once in a while. I loved the satire with the weight loss and the book has a very snappy rhythm that I particularly liked (and found myself imitating in my head). I thought the ending was appropriate by following in a very self-aware tradition of the perfect knight. There is, after all, no way that Bridget's shallow quest would have found her a meaningful relationship. The author knows it, we know it, so let's give her prince anyway. BTW, if you're a feminist, and your only reason for not liking this book is because it offends your feminist sensibilities, you need to re-examine your sense of humor.
Rating: Summary: Oh please. Review: It took me close to forever to get through this book. Friends told me "You just don't get it". I get it Bridget Jones is one of the most negative people I have ever encountered. Maybe it is the "English" humor. Whatever it is you can't escape the lack of a real plot. There is nothing to sink you teeth into, no action.
Rating: Summary: British Ally McBeal Review: This book is so funny! I loved it. It's great light reading, although sometimes Bridget's insecurities get annoying. But, if you like Ally McBeal, you've got to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: We can all testify to having Bridget days/weeks/lives! Very funny (even when things get really bad for B. -- at least you're not her!)
Rating: Summary: Reminiscences Review: This is my first book by Tagore.Reminiscences seems to be a biography of a man who has attained harmony with nature and has understood the meaning of living and of "Truth". Especially the chapters on " an essay on music", "Evening songs" and "Morning songs",are written right from the heart.Read it, appreciate it and get a glimpse of the all encompassing Truth.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely loved it Review: This book is not great literature, but it's not supposed to be. Those who've complained about it's "fluffiness" are missing the point. When you need a break from the "Anna Karenina"s of the world, pick this up. It's a quick, hilariously funny and entertaining read. I found myself laughing out loud throughout. Bridget is hyperbolically neurotic and shallow, of course, but she's funny and endearing as well. Though it's taken to the point of great exaggeration for comedic purposes, I think most women CAN relate to the feelings of low self-confidence and neuroticism that Bridget confesses in her diary. Got wacky to the point of utter unbelievability at the end but it didn't reduce my enjoyment one bit. Those who rant about Bridget being an antifeminist, unrealistic, etc. are just taking the book too damn seriously. This is the funniest book I've ever read.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: As a single career oriented female of the 90's, it was so refreshing to read a book that made me laugh at the trials of my everyday life! I was also pleased to find out that I am not the only one who can't keep my resolutions!
Rating: Summary: Quirky, fun and funny Review: Damn those Fruit Smoothies! A cry heard throughout Bridget Jones's Diary is sure to ring true for every woman, married or single. This book kept me awake and entertained on a flight home from Asia. I could not put it down and finished it in one straight read. Bridget is every woman's insecure side. Yet she is still someone who you would want as a friend. It is well written and easily readable. This is one great beach book. Bridget Jones's Diary - is a look inside an insecure and quirky young woman's life - her daily intake of cigarette's, alcohol and calorie's consumed as well as her never dull love life... A hilarious ride along a journey you won't want to end!
Rating: Summary: Nay to Naysayers! Review: I have to seriously wonder about the level of denial in those who vehemently dislike this book, spitting and snarling that "this is not me" (those of us who DO relate, and we seem to be in the majority, will thank you not to deny that Bridgit is ANY modern woman). To quote Shakespeare (since you don't like Fielding "plagarizing" Austen), "methinks thou (Bridgit-haters) protesteth too much"!
Rating: Summary: I worship this novel! Review: I have read this book about 15 times. Every time I do, I laugh so hard I have to lie down, and hold my sides. I have sent copies of this book to all of my single female friends, and it has now become a cult favourite among us.
