Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: On either side of the Atlantic there's a great, funny book about the quirks of love and living in the 90's and 00's. Bridget rules the U.K., and check out Brauner's Love Songs of the Tone-Deaf. I'd give a lot to be able to read these two great books the first time again!
Rating: Summary: How true! Review: This book was an utter delight to read. I finished it the day I bought. It is not only realistic, but hilarious. The author was actually able to capture a woman's (sometimes irrational) thinking about relationships, body image and job, family....I love Bridget. she is just a sheer riot. I can't wait for the next book.
Rating: Summary: Hurrah Singletons! Review: This is my third reading of the novel in as many weeks. Though it is not a high-brow novel, it is so easy to relate to and very easy to enjoy. As a Singleton myself, who is on the verge of moving to London, I can only imagine how my life will compare to Bridget's. I can only speak from past experience, that I have been where she has, and I have felt the same insecurities that she has. I have also tried to appear cool and sophistacated in certain social situations, and only managed to appear and feel like a social outcast. She is very "ninties" woman! One warning: if you read this book in public, be prepared for some stares, as you will laugh-out-loud! Hurrah for Singletons! Hurrah for Bridget Jones!
Rating: Summary: NOT THAT BAD Review: The book is quite enjoyable and funny. Altough I am a believer of exagerrated characters/incidences in fiction, this booked was too much based on cartoon creatures. It is weird but I couldn't help recalling Jerry Lewis in some of the scenes..Anyway, it is a good book after a hectic week.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I read BJD and I'm in the middle of Edge of Reason, I absolutely adored it. I can't really relate to it personally (I'm only 18) but either way, I am going to reach that stage and I can't wait, because if it's anything like Bridget says it is, I'll be dying of laughter. This is easily one of my favorite books.
Rating: Summary: How come you haven't read this yet? Review: Even though I've recently entered the "smug marrieds" group, I still remember my "singleton" days, fondly and squimishly. Bridget Jones is an absolutely hystercial character. I found myself laughing out loud on almost every other page (so loud that I woke my husband up at least 2 times while reading in bed!) At times she's all over the page emotionally, yet at others we see a glimpse of some "inner poise". But, all throughout she makes you laugh and smile and you can relate to so many of her trials and tribulations. I even actually wondered if this author had taken excerpts out of my own diary it felt so real. One thing for sure, it ain't easy being a woman, single or otherwise...but it sure is funny when you look at from this perspective.
Rating: Summary: This book ROCKED! Review: Even though I have entered the ranks of the "smug-marrieds", I found Bridget Jones absolutely delightful! She is me as a "singleton" completely! Any single female can relate to this character in every way. I didn't want to put the book down, and after I finished it, I missed Bridget and her friends. I can't wait to read the next one!
Rating: Summary: JONES! Review: First off, I tend not to like to rate books with stars, as I like to choose an emblem that somehow illustrates the theme of the book or movie I am reviewing. For instance with Catcher In The Rye, I used a Blueberry Muffin. Mm, mm, muffins!, for Lolita, I used a thermometer, and for Crime and Punishment, I used a surly dwarf. Mm, mm, dwarves! Here I would again use a muffin. Speaking of which...
Rating: Summary: Smug Married reader from Richmond Review: Personnally, cannot relate to Bridget at all. She is a heavy drinking, cigarette smoking, sloppy, airhead. She takes no responsibility for her life and waits for things to happen to and for her. Fairy tale ending not believable or possible in the real world for this woman, though it will make for a great, sappy end to a major motion picture in which Hugh Grant will likely be cast. HOWEVER, I read the book in just three days and found it very funny. Well worth a try in between more serious reading.
Rating: Summary: Just another junk novel but somewhat amusing nonetheless... Review: Admittedly the humor is slap-stick rather than intellectual and subtle, but it IS funny. A good quick read for periods between Lolita and Les Miserables.
