Summary: Reflecting many single working women's lives, but ..
Review: This novel takes the similar structure with that of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. One more common thing between them, accordingly, is that the heroines, Elizabeth and Bridget are attractive, smart and witty. Aprt from rating this novel, I like Bridget. But one thing I cannot understand is that the important thing the heroines in therit lives are pursuing doesn't change though it is 19th and 21th century. Marriage and love ! In the times of Jane Austen, the major issue in middle class may be marriage. love and money. But major factors influencing on Bridget's life are just boyfriend, lover, love and marriage in addition to friendship though individuals' lives become complicated. The ending (?) was also happy union with Darcy. Of course, I agree with many reviewers in the aspect that this novel reflects the lives of many single working women. But something is missing. That is the passion and ambition of many working women in therit career. One thing precious in lives is love, that's for sure. But rading this novel, I feel a little sorry for Bridget.(though she is sometimes admarably brave) There are many things to search for and enjoy in lives.

Summary: decent
Review: alright, so everybody says that bridget jones's diary is absolutely hilarious, so i thought i'd jump on the bandwagon and give it a read. it was entertaining, but i must confess that i did not laugh out loud once. sorry, y'all. i found her observations amusing, but nothing terribly witty that made me double over with gales of laughter. the pride and prejudice parallels were certainly a nice touch, but give me elizabeth bennet and mr darcy over bridget and mark any day!

Summary: Simply Marvelous (v.g.)
Review: This book was fabulous! As soon as I was done with the first one I went and bought the sequal. It is a very enjoyable read that all women can relate too. Everyone should check it out!

Summary: I didn't like this book as much as other folks did
Review: I liked the book for entertainment value, but I don't get the hype. While we all have our neurosis, Bridget was over the top. I wanted to reach into the book at times to strangle her for fitting into all the negative stereotypes about women. But if you think Ally McBeal is one of the best shows on tv, you'll probably like this book, too.

Summary: Good - but not as great as others have said
Review: I enjoyed reading this book very much, but I found Bridget to be beyond neurotic. We all have our neuroses, but she was over the top. At times I just found her to be annoying and I wanted to slap her for matching up to all the negative stereotypes about women. But if you love Ally McBeal, you'll probably love this book, too.

Summary: Very Clever!
Review: Bridget Jones is the woman I once was...finding the wrong men, trying(neurotically) to control bad habits. This is by far the funniest book I have read in a long time. I read it in one day and I now recommend it to anyone who wishes to laugh at the antics of an oddball englishwoman.

Summary: Great Book
Review: This is the funniest book I've read in years. I have been laying out with my friends, reading and laughing outloud. Now they all want to read it too. I can easily identify with Bridgette's life and situations she gets herself into. I think this is a great book for women of any age, my mom is reading it now.

Summary: Another reason to wish you were a woman
Review: Most certainly, guys will find it amusing and entertaining it as well, especially in getting to know the "backstage" of a woman's lifestyle and her innermost thoughts and obsessions. But to fully enjoy this book -sorry guys!- you'll definitely have to be a woman. It is so unbelievably true to our nature. It shamelessly details every single thought and mental process that flows in a woman's mind with a hilarious and honest tone that turns it into an oasis in the middle of the dessert, and makes you think "oh my god, I'm not the only alien, low-calorie freak on this planet". Can't miss it. This novel is the female version of Nick Hornby's High Fidelity.

Summary: "Every Woman's Bible"
Review: Ready to throw in the towel for just about every aspect of your life? Feel as though you're the only one on the planet who feels like a neurotic-psychotic? Bridget Jones is our kindred spirited tour-guide through her one year adventures and all the turbulent and unfathomable everyday woes: men, money, family, sex, diet, personal appearance, age, health, dependencies, and quirky thoughts. Forever a work in progress, Bridget is an experiment unto herself trying to figure it all out in her diary entries; letting it all hang out in the most creative, refreshing, and humourous style. For your future - for you sanity : READ THIS BOOK, BUY THIS BOOK - YOU WILL BE RE-BORN AND READ IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

Summary: Pride and Bridget
Review: Some retellings of classics are just authors trotting out a successful plotline in a tired way under the guise of literary awareness, but Bridget Jones is not a tired narrative. Fielding, using Pride and Prejudice as her jumping off point, dives head first into the hapless world of young singleton Bridget and her romance with Mr. Darcy.

Fielding brilliantly skews the values of Bridget from the original Elizabeth Bennet's perfection and strength. Bridget isn't principled and upright, she's a quivering mass of hysterically funny insecurities and bad habits like smoking, drinking and procrastination.

Yes, if you're familiar with Pride and Prejudice, you may see some of the plot points coming from miles away, but if you love P&P, you'll enjoy this romp. If you've never read Austen's lovely book, try Bridget first and then get acquainted with Pride and Prejudice. They make great companions!

Bridget promises a laugh a page as well as some strikingly realistic glimpses of the delicate modern singleton's psyche. Don't miss this book!
