Summary: Never read this book but I plan to
Review: Aren't they making this book into a movie sometime soon? I think I was watching the previews for "scary movie" and I think that was one of the previews..or maybe it was on TV. I dunno. I was just wondering if anyone has heard this?

Summary: I couldn't put this book down!!!
Review: I started reading the book after work and finished it in 7 hours. Although a modern twist on the _Pride and Prejudice_, the book is 100 times funnier! I completely identified with Bridget's experiences as much as I didn't want to admit it. :)

Summary: the best comedy i've ever read
Review: this book is hilarious! the honesty and humor of it is incredible. this is the type of book that makes you think that your life isn't as bad as it seems and you actually feel sorry for bridget, while at the same time, are laughing with her. this is the type of book to read when you're disappointed, hate the male species, or just need a good laugh. all women should read this book!

Summary: True-to-Life Humor
Review: This book is one that basically looks at the female persona and pokes fun at it. Females are expected to be thin (but not too thin!), knowledgable, great cooks, etc. How many of us are all of those things? And if we aren't, just look at what we go through to get there.

Bridget Jones is trying to perfect herself, or at least make herself better. The bad part is that she has her own set of human desires that keep her from doing this.

Men: Avoid this book unless you have noticed the things your wife/girlfriend does and think you can see her side of things. Women who think Bridget should quit whining: You are either already perfect or are in denial about the silly things that you go through...

Note also: This book is an easy, short read for those with short attention spans. Great for the beach or a short vacation.

Summary: Purposeless
Review: What's the point? Or, better yet: What's the big deal? Maybe it is a gender thing. I'm a guy, so i don't get the humor of Bridget Jones's Diary. The book is not funny. I found it quite tedious and i often wanted somebody to boot Bridget in the head. I did sympathize with the character at times. Quite a few times to be perfectly honest. Reading this book, i found myself waiting for a payoff that never came. I finish one chapter and think, "How dull." I finish another, "How dreary." I finish the book, "How tedious...and i'll never get that time back." That's when i know i got nothing out of a book, when i realize that i've just wasted whatever amount of time i spent reading it. With all of the hype surrounding this book, i just feel let down and betrayed. It just wasn't interesting.

Review: Fast read. I couldn't wait to see what crazy shinanigan would happen next.

Summary: Absolutely Hilarious
Review: I bought this book on a whim and I am so glad I did. Bridget is a wonderful chararcter who made me laugh throughout the entire book. She maybe somewhat typical to some people but I thought she was absolutely charming. She reminds me of every woman because every woman obsesses about something or everything. Helen Fielding is brilliant. The sequel is even better. I was busting at the seams during both books.

Summary: Mildly amusing for the first 25 pages at best
Review: After the rave reviews I was looking forward to this one, but was sorely disappointed. The main character is a total stereotype--obsessed with finding a boyfriend, cigarettes, weight and chocolate--maybe in reverse order. Her job fills time she would otherwise spend eating and smoking. Why is it that no one writes books like this about guys? Portrayals of women like this aren't that funny to begin with, and this one wore thin quickly. Don't waste your time on the sequel--I didn't.

Summary: Every Single Girl's Diary: A Novel For All
Review: If you don't mind some of the language, which wasn't all that alarming these days, you just might find yourself captured by Bridget Jones' terrific determination. Bridget is a no nonsense gal, who has learned to deal with her woes in the most imaginative ways. I enjoyed her daily account of pounds lost (and gained), how many "fags" she had smoked, how many calories she had consumed, and various other acccounts custom designed to the season she was in. She was cute, and funny, and I wanted to be her friend.

I found Bridget to be brilliant at times, and I laughed out loud more than once. It was a bright and airy read, that left me with some residual giggles. I could relate to her plight, and I whole heartedly embraced her struggles, both simple and traumatic (depending on her mood.)

I would recommend BJ's Diary to just about anyone who can take an honest look at life and still find a reason to laugh. It was V.G.

Summary: A Bad Representation of Women in their early 30's
Review: After hearing how funny and true to life this book was, I could hardly wait to read it. Instead I plodded through 271 diary pages of perhaps one of the most shallow characters out there. All that is important in her life is her weight (which she checks daily), her alcohol, cigarette and calorie intake and the number of times a day she checks the answering machine. I think perhaps the term "get a life" was inspired by Bridget. What a horrible representation of single women in their late 20's/early 30's as being self-obsessed and weak spirited. I'm sure the reason this book is a bestseller is because there's undoubtedly sections that every woman identifies with in some way, which makes an even more dismal statement on our society. Perhaps Bridget should take up some volunteer work and develop some inner beauty.
