Rating: Summary: The Long Dark TeaTime of a Woman's Soul Review: Harmless... er, make that "mostly harmless".

Rating: Summary: Take Bridget Jones' antics lightly Review: Bridget Jones is a hillarious read...if you're of a certain age and mind-set. It describes that peculiar age between 20-30 when older people really annoy you with the "so who are you dating" questions. It's also that time when you're trying to figure out your purpose in this life. I can relate to this. However, Bridget Jones' moral choices leave a lot to be desired. Not every singleton her age chooses to sleep around, smoke like a chimney, and drink 5 glasses of wine per day. She's obviously looking for fulfillment in the wrong areas...which is actually true of many singletons today. I'm not passing judgment, just stating the obvious. If you take her antics with a grain of salt, you'll enjoy this light-hearted read.
Rating: Summary: BJ is Me! Review: Having been a fan of the book before I even heard there was a movie, I have to say I'm afraid I'm going to invoke the old cliche -- the book was better. If you're new to the BJ world, please meet the most hilarious neurotic "singleton" ever to come out of Britain, and never look back. This is a hilarious book, so true in so many ways. It's very reminiscent of my other current fave, Love Songs of the Tone-Deaf. Because these books are funny, people often overlook, I think, that there's more under the surface. Both of these great contemporary novels contain very sharp observations about love and lust in the modern world. All of Bridget's insecurities ought to add up, you might think, to just feeling sorry for herself, or for never trying anything risky. Oh, how wrong you'd be! You MUST read this book!
Rating: Summary: Witty, funny, and romantically tacky! Review: I loved this book. Finally a character who is real and I can relate too. I'm buying this for all my girl-friends this year for birthday presents. Plus the parallel to PRIDE AND PREJUDICE is hysterical fun. LOVED IT!
Rating: Summary: My review... a la Bridget Jones. Review: Found book to be contagiously engrossing. Interesting that pronouns are exempt due to diary format, however, allows for a light, fresh approach to modern day Pride and Prejudice. 1:30 pm Am staring at review screen attempting to think of witty and charming things to write about Fielding's novel. Going over a multitude of scenes in head to describe, but feel strongly that one must read book to fully appreciate Bridget's obsessive-compulsive sometimes daft character. 1:33 pm Aha! Have hit upon excellent choice of words for review. Ahem. When first heard of Bridget Jones's Diary instantly thought as Cosmopolitan type top pick book for lounging in sun on hot days thus must be sleazy literature. After reading novel, feel very badly for such snobby presumptions and highly recommend book to almost anyone for a good laugh, a bit of insight into self, and an illustration of being single in your 30's.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't Compare to the original! Review: I'm sorry to say, but I was very disappointed by this "redacted" version of the original. I ordered it online expecting the original, but found that it was not nearly as funny. I remember laughing out loud reading the original on the train! As expected, I highly recommend the original (a 5 Star Plus!). I also have to say that I was disappointed that there was nothing at amazon stating that it wasn't the original.
Rating: Summary: I like this kind of book Review: This book is sort of New-York-neurotic-though-semi-empowered-female-fiction (though not in New York). It is pretty fun, I guess, and clearly people enjoy it. Still, it is a little thin. The characters are paper, and, well, I just don't know. Obviously a story doesn't have to be amazing or realistic to be good (I should hope not) but this is just ok. And I really do like the aforementioned genre (even if I'm sometimes embarassed to admit it).
Rating: Summary: Quick Read into.....modern neurosis? Review: I finished this book in a matter of hours-----what a modern story of women and their caloric obsessions. I think this is an abbreviated version of the original???? But its a pretty good read. Is it going to be a modern classic? I think Helen Fielding hits womanhood on the head pretty well, even if she did totally and unabashedly rip off "Pride and Prejudice" in so many ways. Bridget Jones, thirtyish and single, obsessed with her weight, going through relationships and employment. What is the appeal of this story? Perhaps just that everyone seems to relate to Bridgets tale in some way or another. Even if I didn't get half of all those Brittish references of stuff....Go ahead and read it....it reminds us how normal and human we all are. And how paranoid!
Rating: Summary: A friend had recommended....... Review: I didn't know what to expect when a dear friend had recommended this book to me. I purchased it and started reading it but put it down. It took me about 3 weeks to pick it up again due to a hectic schedule. Once I got past the Diamond Sweater and the bumble socks I was hooked. After finishing the book in one night I had to have another fix so I bought the sequel. I have thoroughly enjoyed the writing of Helen Fielding. She has managed to capture the essence of being single. I haven't seen the movie yet, however, hopefully tomorrow evening I'll be watching it and laughing my head off. I hope that there will be more written on dear Bridget and her friends in the future. Hint, hint, HELEN! Thank you for an enjoyable tale of Singletons!
