Rating: Summary: One of the funniest books I've read this year! Review: BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY is one of the funniest books ever. Written in the form of a journal, Bridget starts each entry with a set of statistics: alchohol consumed; cigarettes smoked; current weight; etc... You can watch her alchohol and cigarette consumption go up and down as her moods change day by day. Bridget's journal chronicles life as a 30-something single gal living in London and living alone. She's wishing she has a steady boyfriend. She finally gets involved with her boss Daniel Cleaver, and we watch as they progress from madly in lust to "ho hum".... of course she later learns what a scum bag he is and so she's back to square one. She also is fixed up with child hood friend Mark Darcy, who annoys her to no end. Besides trying to find that Mr Right, she's also dealing with a mother who is going through a mid life crisis and that's a story unto itself. And her on-going struggle with self improvement schemes is a riot. Bridget came across to me as someone who has a lot of self esteem, but at the same time is desperately trying to convince herself and others that she's ok the way she is. She's very vocal about her opinions, never gives up either when things are looking down. I really liked Bridget as a character, and saw a lot of her in me. Maybe that's why I liked this book so much.
Rating: Summary: Laugh Yourself Silly Review: This is one if my favorite books of all time. It is the tale of Bridget Jones, a thirty-two year old singleton who believes that her life would be perfect if she could a)lose 7 pounds, b)stop smoking, and c)oh I forget what c was... Anyway, it is in journal form detailing her life from January 1 to December 31 of one full year of hilarity. You will laugh, cry, and want to kick her in the head. Especially when you meet her mother. I suggest this to anyone looking for a book to laugh yourself silly with. After you get started, you'll never get enough of Bridget.
Rating: Summary: Hilarity at its best! Review: Bridget Jones' Diary is a hilarious book filled with insights into the psyche of an everyday women moving quickly into her late thrities. This book will have you rolling in the aisles with embarassing moments that you can both identify with and just plain laugh at. By the end of the book you will figure out that Bridget Jones is just like you.
Rating: Summary: futile attempt to bring down the inflated average Review: This book annoyed me in that Bridget never changes. I had hopes in the beginning that she would somehow overcome her insecurities and neuroses, and so I endured her uninteresting obsessions. But in the end I felt duped by her constancy. She is a little kid whining for candy, only in the end to get her candy and undoubtedly begin whining for something else. Perhaps it is a true picture of the gen-x-er, but I live it so I don't need to read it in my free time.
Rating: Summary: [Bad] Review: I can't be the only one who found this book-and Bridget-to be [bad]. I wanted to get her an AA brochure and a cat, and tell her that her life doesn't have to revolve around a man. Ick.
Rating: Summary: Hillarious! Review: This is a book that speaks to us all. Anyone can empathize with someone like Bridget. I laughed my way from cover to cover...relating to many of Bridget's mishaps and woes! A great and easy read. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT! Review: I loved this book from the moment I opened the cover. Bridget is so funny. She keeps you laughing and interested the whole year. I especially liked her mother! I can't wait to read the next book Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Read Review: An enjoyable read that is really funny. Bridget strikes me as an insecure, highly neurotic woman who is nearing her thirties looking for her perfect 'boyfriend'. Surrounded by her impossibly flighty mother who seems to have more fun at 60 than she is, friends who either married or in a rut like her, she tries so hard to be perfect by trying to diet, writing each experiences in her diary. She also has an on-then-off relationship with her boss that took an interesting turn in the end. All in all, this book should be read by both female and male so that both species will have an idea about the other party is actually thinkig about
Rating: Summary: Love Bridget!!! Hope there's more books to come! Review: I decided to take a break from my usual books. Thought this would be a nice "light" read. Well I didn't know that Bridget would feel like I was reading about myself, only with a bit more humour!! As soon as I finished it I was on Amazon ordering Edge of Reason, and let me tell you that was as good as if not better also! All I have left to say is what are you waiting for? Order it now.
Rating: Summary: Not what I expected Review: Admittedly, I saw the movie before picking up the book. Maybe that's why I didn't get as much pleasure from it, I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong, it was a good book, but I guess just not what I expected. All I can honestly say is that I would rather watch the movie, which is one of my new favorites and I HIGHLY recommend. This book followed a slightly different storyline, which included less of Mark, who I wanted to see more of. The sequel (Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason), however, is hilarious. I am rereading it for the third time right now. But you do need too know the original story to fully appreciate it. Whether you do that through the movie or book is your choice.
