Rating: Summary: modern version of Pride & Prejudice Review: Very funny. A romance novel presented in a clever way. Bridget Jones is adorable. Actually quite like a lot of my single girl friends.
Rating: Summary: See, your life could be worse! Review: Although I was expecting something a little different, Bridget Jones's Diary certainly did not disappoint me. This is a hilarious portrayal of life as a thirty-something single woman with problems existing in every aspect of life. As she struggles to come to terms with her single status, mother's mid-life crisis, career, smoking and alcohol addiction, and weight, we are able to catch a glimpse of ourselves in Bridget's "quirks". I think that almost any woman will be able to identify with the funny situations in which Bridget becomes involved. Because there is a little piece of Bridget in each of us, you will find yourself hoping that everything will turn out all right for her. It also may help you to realize that writing in a journal may provide you with some laughs as you look back at your own misfortune. I thought that this book was (v.g.)!
Rating: Summary: LOL Review: I love this book. This book is the funniest book I've ever read in recent six months. When it's blue day, just read and be refreshed. I bet you'll love this book and may buy the Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason too in the desire of something Bridget. It's really addictive and somehow make me think in her way.
Rating: Summary: Funny - a very enjoyable read! Review: I really enjoyed this book. Bridget is your best friend, your younger sister who can never really get it together, Bridget is YOU!! I read this book in less than a day and a half and loved it. Even though Bridget speaks in a slang I didn't always understand, (remember "The Full Monty"?) I would still highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Are we really like this? Review: This is funny but depressing. For more promise, look elsewhere. PErhaps the heroines in Defemders of the Holy Grail. Thet are flawed but they OVERCOME
Rating: Summary: I must be too demanding! Review: I read the reviews of this book, and saw the ads for the movie. What a disappointment. This is a badly written book when you look beyond the 'cleverness' of the diary theme. It has a MAJOR plot flaw, the most unattractive female 'heroine' in history - and not just because she thinks she's overweight, drinks and smokes too much. She is BORING!!! Sure, you can laugh throughout the story, but then you could laugh at someone falling down an escalator, or someone with a mental or physical disability. The characters are shallow. The story is patchy. How anyone could find this woman attractive - mentally, physically or philosophically is a mystery to me. She is bland, self-indulgent, inconsiderate and - quite simply - unbelievably boring. We've all done things in our lives that make us cringe with embarrassment, but somewhere (hopefully) we've excelled at something, and given something to someone else. Bridget does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING [...]. I guess you could say that I found this book totally over-rated - and, yes, I do have a sense of humour, but it's not masochistic or centred on self-indulgent navel gazing. Oops! Another piece of fluff to put in the bin.
Rating: Summary: Hysterical, in both senses of the word Review: A very funny and (sorry, Mom) accurate portrait of the life of the modern singleton. Bridget made me giggle, cringe, and grieve for her, often in the same day. Now if only I can get my *own* life to have such a happy ending...
Rating: Summary: Good for a Belly Laugh Review: I read, on average, about 100 books a year. About 1/3 are fiction and rarely would I even consider reading a book of this nature. I did, however, see a lot of publicity and I got curious about the book so I bought it and sat down to read it. First, I read it in 2 sittings, which is very unusual for me. Secondly, I started to laugh out loud with the first 10-15 pages which caused my wife to think there was something wrong with me physically. She could not remember the last time she had heard me laugh out loud at a book. I'm a male, married, and about as unlikely to read this book as anyone, yet I read it and enjoyed it totally. I related to the characters, the situations and to Bridget's quirky life. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good laugh. Just brush up on your British slang a bit first!
Rating: Summary: days to read, 1, v.g. Review: This is just a great, lighthearted book that seems to be universally enjoyed by women aged 18-35. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an entertaining book about the life of a singleton in Europe who's a bit clumsy and completely charming. Even if you've seen the movie, read the book. I recommend reading it before you see the movie so you can have your own image of Bridget, rather than imagining Renee Zellweger to be the character. Because, when you finish, you may realize there's a bit of Bridget in us all.
Rating: Summary: A fun read Review: This is a fun, breezy book. It tells of the ups & downs of a young woman with humor & heart. Bridget battles her weight, mother, dates, cigarettes, & friends. There is something that everyone can relate to in this book. It's great to read & talk over with your friends. Highly recommended.
