Summary: Very possibly the best book I've read.
Review: Wells captures the essence and intricacies of Southern women, their relationships with each other and their mothers.

Summary: LOVED IT
Review: I READ THIS BOOK AT A TIME IN MY LIFE WHEN I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT MY RELATIONSHIP IN MY OWN FAMILY. I AM ALWAYS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT MY OWN MOTHER. THE MAJOR THESIS OF THE BOOK IS YOU CANT. JUST LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE. THE CHARACTERS IN THE BOOK ARE ABOUT THE SAME AGE AS MYSELF AND MY MOM.I READ THE BOOK STRAIGHT THROUGH IN A COUPLE OF SITTINGS. I WORK IN A LIBRARY AND HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDING IT EVER SINCE.

Summary: A real disappointment...
Review: "The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood" was a real disappointment. I was looking forward to digging in and enjoying a story of women's friendships...the complexities of loyalty, affection, envy, and encouragement. But Wells work has an artificial ring to it. The women are never fully fleshed out, and their conversations are shallow and self-conscious, as if the characters are on stage in some bad Tennessee Williams production. The alternating chapters of the daughter's present life are written like a romance novel...I believe I actually snorted out loud at one point. Something about her "quivering flower..." I never would have bothered to finish the book had it not been the selection of my book group. So, be warned.

Summary: Disappointing in form and substance.
Review: Contrived and shallow, with not one experience, emotion or pang left to the reader's imagination and intuition. I was simply bored by the tale of the Ya-Yas, and in particular by their totally unsurprising effect on the Siddalee character/caricature. I felt as though I'd read every vignette before, and probably told much better, elsewhere. Wells left no emotion unturned and un-flayed, and that actually made it an extremely tedious read for me.

Summary: I don't want this book to end!
Review: I'm almost finished with this book, and I don't want it to end! It is one of the most entertaining, compelling and *disturbing* books I've read in years. I've laughed, I've cried, I've agonized... I really *care* about these characters, and I don't want them to step out of my "life" when the last page is turned!

Having lived in New Orleans for a few years as a child, I am enjoying being reminded of the flavor, food, dialect, setting, etc. And my husband and son are wondering why I keep calling them "cher" and "bebe" now. ;)

If you haven't read it, get it. It's a very good read. I'm going to pass this book along to my adult daughter when I've finished it... every mother and daughter and anyone who *cares* about a mother or a daughter should read it.

Summary: Makes me cherish my girlfriends - family and otherwise!!
Review: In the past when people asked me my favorite book, none ever jumped into my mind. Now I immediately say "Ya-Ya Sisterhood!" Never have I laughed out loud as I did when reading this book!! I have a close group of girlfriends from college, but we are unfortunately spread across the country. None the less, this book made me think of them and hope that our friendships can survive the separation after graduation. I am also lucky enough to come from a close family with lots of women in it. Even though mine are family, I could definitely relate to Sidalee's feelings toward the Ya-Yas. No family is without its problems, and I believe that those in the book were representative of the time and setting. I highly recommend this book, especially to anyone with a close group of girlfriends - family or otherwise. I would also recommend it to those experiencing troubled times w/ their own Ya-Yas! ENJOY!!

Summary: Brilliant Story of Friendship, Love and Healing.
Review: The Ya-Ya Sisterhood reached down into the depths of my soul. Wells shows how we struggle and continue to struggle with issues of dysfunctional childhoods, hurts, anger, healing and the always constant (yet sometimes hidden) mother-daughter bonds of love. By virtue of my Southern hertiage, I could relate to the bagaged passed through generations, momentary relief of alcohol, even trying to define the love and neediness for a black maid who loved and cared for me. My daughters and I are crossing many bridges of love and forgiveness, thanks to this book. Bravo! Bravo! Rebecca Wells

Summary: This book has captured the hearts of many, including mine.
Review: Rebecca Wells did a fantastic job on her second novel, "The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood." It goes deep into the bond between both a mother and a child, and a woman and her friends. This is by far the best book I have ever read. It is one of those reads which takes you deep into the characters' worlds, and with every turn of the page you feel like you are right there by their sides. It makes you want to laugh, cry, and every other emotion in between. What a great book!

Summary: Brilliant
Review: This book reminded me of the great relationship of girlfriends and how fun it all is. It also hit home on how grown women must be responsible for their adult lives and not blame their parents for life's curve balls. Very fun to read.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A good book with a slow start.
Review: I found it very hard to get into YaYa's, but once hooked, liked it very much. I have recommended it to lots of friends, but alas, some have given up because it drags at the beginning. So I'd say, stick with it; it gets better and better. I am looking forward to reading "Little Altars" next.Hope it starts faster!!
