Rating: Summary: Captivating Review: I wasn't sure whether I would like this book or not. I'm not used to reading "emotional" stories of women's lives. However, upon recommendation of a friend, I bought this book and I love it. Some people mentioned that it was hard to follow with the text jumping around. I found that it added to the story. I am definitely recommending this book to my friends who are looking for something different to read.
Rating: Summary: A wonderfully stimulating read! Review: I fell in love with the Ya-Ya's. Upon ending the book I cried because I didn't want to be shut out of their lives. This book prompted me to seize every moment and event of my own Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Every character will remain real to me for all time.
Rating: Summary: Down with Ya-Ya Review: It's no wonder this book was created: what a copy of the humerous Bridget Jone's Diary. This book was tedious and dull, the cover art was a bit nasty to look at also. The day to day writings of this was a bore to read, okay...day 1: do dishes. Day 2: go get groceries, chatted. Etc.etc this book just didn't stop. Why would we want to know her choices of vegetables? Huh, the author was trying to hard to be funny. Worst of all, I had the hardest time remembering this title and the authors name, all I could remember was divine and ya-yas. Briget Jone's Diary is still my beloved humorous fiction.
Rating: Summary: A Glorification of Alcoholism Review: This book is a hymn to alcoholism. It is awash in liquor. It seems as if the characters accompany every significant speech, action, and confrontation with a drink. Characters are drunk all the time, and a significant number of problems arise because of various people's drinking. Husbands and wives get drunk individually but don't talk, one character's marriage is considered good because her husband happily brings her drinks,a women leaves her family to go to a hotel and drink, the main character drinks brandy while ruminating on the effects of her mother's drinking. Hello? Didn't anyone else notice this? This is not divine, it is desperate. Because of that I found this book silly and 2-dimensional.
Rating: Summary: Divine Book, Absolutely Faboulous Review: I couldn't put this book down. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. From page one I was drawn into the world of Sidda and the Ya-Yas. I cried and laughed. I enjoyed this book enormously. Although I do not know Louisiane and its people, this book made me feel as if I was there. I could also identity with the female friendship bonds and the complicated relationship between mothers and daughters. Great read and I recommend it to everyone,
Rating: Summary: A poignant discovery story. Review: I loved this book simply because it dealt with Southern women, their lives and relationships. The fact that it was set in Louisiana furthered my enjoyment because I lived there for some time. However, more than this, I loved this book because it poignantly illustrates how we look to our families for so much perfection and are always let down when we don't find it. That relations are not about finding answers necessarily, but about learning to love and accept imperfection.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely great, witty and wicked. Review: One of the best! It was a little confusing at first but hang with it. All of a sudden it was fantastic!. The story line was SO ORIGINAL. At times it made you so want to be a YA-YA and other times you were SO GRATEFUL you were not a YA-YA. Viva la Vivi!
Rating: Summary: I hated to come to the end of this book. Review: This book gripped me from beginning to end. This lady knows friendships, mothers and daughters. Little Altars Everywhere was good, but Divine Secrets was marvelous.
Rating: Summary: An entertaining read Review: If it hadn't been for the annoying charaters of sniveley Sidda and her far-fetched boyfriend, this book would have been more satisfiying. Unfortuantly, due to its weak attempt at a deeper meaning it ranks right up there with "Bridges of Maidson County" and "The Horse Wisperer." --And since when do people (especially teenagers) write letters to one another with dialogue quotations? If you're looking for an easy, entertaining magazine-type read, this one's for you. Otherwise, don't bother.
Rating: Summary: oh, puh-leeze Review: A trashy novel by any other name...! Completely without substance, just like the confectionery sugar they put on beignets at the Cafe du Monde. I don't understand why all the raves about this book; I found it trite and cliched.
