Rating: Summary: Fiddle-dee-dee! I love this book! Review: Divine Secrets is one of the best books I have read in a long time.I was totally enthralled and could not put it down.It was laugh out loud funny. As a self-proclaimed Southern belle, I can tell everyone out there that those ya-ya girls are the real thing.Friendships like theirs do really exist here in the South. You MUST read this book!!!
Rating: Summary: Funny and sad, a roller coaster ride of emotions Review: The author takes you for a joy ride in a time many may remember, but in a place only those from the south may know. You're not only a spectator; you become a part of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, and then begins the ride of your life. This book stirred up a myriad of vivid emotions. Rebecca Wells starts you out slow and easy, like a hot summer day in the bayou, and then slowly and steadily takes you upward to a pinnacle of emotions. She gently sets you back down to earth, where you take a deep breath and think about the Ya Ya's in your own life.... This book will not let you remain passive. Whether you like it or not, I can guarantee something will stir within you as you follow Sidda through her childhood that brought her to the fork in the road she finds herself now. It's about love and hate, mothers and fathers and children, and how they're all inter-twined with each other. An excellent read!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Celebration of Womanhood..... Review: I have never laughed or cried so hard to a book in my entire life. This lighthearted, insightful look into the lives of mothers, daughters, and best friends left me wanting my own Ya-Ya's. I was profoundly touched by their bond with each other, through thick and thin. It has made me re-evaluate my relationship with my mother and long for the closeness and ease of having girlfriends like Vivi, Necie, Teensy, and Caro.
Rating: Summary: Southern, but not Siddalee Review: Want to read a truly fabulous book about disfunctional, Catholic families from Louisianna? Want a really hysterically funny read rich with N'awlins patois, a boozy mother, and a character whose life is made up of a bunch of wild and crazy adventures? Let me recommend "A Confederacy Of Dunces". This, however, is a waste of paper.
Rating: Summary: Gives great insight as to what makes a person who there are Review: I laughed at the part where the Ya-Ya's went to an audition and one of the girls farted and they laughed until they got thrown out of the contest. Such typical childhood behavior. I enjoyed the elephant story. Understanding the deeper meaning behind it, helped the reader understand that even though we are afraid of things in life, you must "ride the beast" to overcome fear and get on with life. Sidda was helped to understand her mother through her mothers own life experiences. Sidda came to terms with her relationship with her mother for the moment, after all it could all change!
Rating: Summary: Exploits People Review: This book was a sappy, cheesy story which does not deserve any credit. It is similar to his other books, like "I know this much is true." The only reason anyone gives it any respect is because it was on Oprah's Book Club and people are too afraid to say anything bad about it because they think people will make fun of them or something. The content really was not that great, and I feel it is time someone spoke up and denied Oprah her instant bestseller powers.
Rating: Summary: Enspiring Review: This book was the best book I've ever read. It made me laugh and also made me cry my heart out. The friendship that the ya-ya's shared was so incredibly special that anyone would be jealous of it. I'm only 13 and this book truly touched me. I reccomend this book to both young and old.
Rating: Summary: A reader from Chattanooga, Tennessee, February 4, 1999 Review: I have read the reviews from the others regarding this book and must tell you that whether you believe it or not, there really are people like the Ya Yas. My best friend's mother was a Vivi. And there really are friendships like those in the book and mothers like them too. I know for a fact. This story was marvelous and touching and I didn't have any trouble following the story line or flashbacks. Simply put..it really is a book about life and relationships and the hurt that we can inflict on those we love. I stayed up most of the night to finish it and cried over the pain Vivi caused herself and others. I think you have to have an understanding of the South and the ways/attitudes of our people in order to really appreciate this story.
Rating: Summary: One of the Dearest Books I have read in a long time! Review: A book that touches the heart as well as the funny bone. I only wish I had a Ya Ya sisterhood in my life. This story keeps you wanting more and more. I only hope they will make it a movie and possibly a sequel will be in the works. Delightful and precious.
Rating: Summary: Gosh, we only get up to 5 stars?? Review: For those that read the book and didn't like it, I can only come to the conclusion that they haven't been blessed with the type of friendship expressed in the book, as I have. That friendship/love/SISTERHOOD not only continues, but grows daily with Ya-Ya's across the country! I invite fellow ya-ya's to join us on the "front porch"".
