Rating: Summary: I would... Review: I WOULD GIVE THIS A ZERO BUT THEY WON'T LET ME. AND I DIDN'T EVEN NEED TO READ THE BOOK TO KNOW IT!!!
Rating: Summary: this delightful story touched the depths of my heart. Review: the ya-ya sisters was a spunky book that revealed to many (including me) how exciting it is to belong to a group of people. -poop
Rating: Summary: Beautiful, moving, a must for mothers and daughters. Review: To truly appreciate this book, you must not expect too much from it. However, this is true of everthing in life. This book sat under my bed for a year after my mother had insisted I read it. When I finally did, I was spellbound by the almost intoxicating, flowery prose, and my heart warmed at a daughter's attempt to know her mother. This does not have to be a book about loyalty and friendship, nor does it have to be about selfishness (which some of the characters seem to suffer from). I think this has to do with learning about the loved ones in your life and really knowing who they are. As I have gotten older, and explored who my mother is and was, I now consider her to be my dearest friend. There is no need to be cynical and over-anylitical when reading about the Ya-Yas. Just open your mind and I guarantee you will read it again or pass it on to one of your friends. Have fun with it!
Rating: Summary: I saw parts of my own life in the lives of the sisterhood. Review: I laughed, cried, pondered, and couldn't put the book down. It's like a wonderful box of chocolates, it went too fast and shortly after I was finished I wanted more.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book Review: The Divine secrets of the YA YA Sisterhood reminds me of the relationship I have with my mom and my two oldersisters. I am not from the south but I think that every woman, no matter if they are from the north or south has a YA YA somewhere or at sometime in their lives. I read the book after my mom and sisters read it and we all agreed that we saw a part of our real lives in the lives of the characters.
Rating: Summary: I want. . .NO. . I NEED more! More! More! Review: A brilliantly funny and touching novel, the only problem with it is that not enough MEN will read it.
Rating: Summary: Like a mystery, it was a book I found hard to put down. Review: Every once in while, I pick up a book to read that makes me wish I had written it because of its characters and their stories of life in the making. "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" was such a book. The assemblage of personalities and their reflections on their growing up spoke out to me of times gone by and a sweeter world. Rebecca Wells' choice of words and descriptions made her characters stand out as individuals and they were unforgettable. The nexus she wove between mother and daughter reached an eloquence that is haunting. The story of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood was like a mystery, constantly putting the reader on edge as to what the Southern Belles were going to do next and what the Ya-Ya memories would reveal to Sidda that would change her life. It is imaginative stuff and Rebecca Wells does it well.
Rating: Summary: Moving, Entertaining Prose Review: This is one of the most keenly written novels that I have read in a while. Wells certainly knows how to breathe life into her characters. I agree with many other reviewers on the matter of Siddalee, but the Ya-Yas more than make up for her annoying qualities. For anyone who has spent any time at all in the South, these characters will seem almost surreal.
Rating: Summary: Though I found the book entertaining, I was disappointed Review: after hearing so many rave reviews. Not only was I irritated by all the self absorbtion, the whole thing was just too cute, too predictable. The story was a good idea, but lacked depth.
Rating: Summary: Shows the bonds between mothers, daughters and best friends Review: This books shows the amazing bonds that keep mothers, daughters and friends together. After writing a not so flattering story about her past, Sidalee faces the wrath of the Ya-Ya's. But as she learns more about her mothers past and the beginnings of the now famous group, she begins to learn more about herself and the bonds of family. A wonderfully written book sure to catch the hearts of many readers out there.
