Summary: I'd rate it 3.5 if half-stars were an option.
Review: I shy away from bestsellers and anything "Oprah," but was pleasantly surprised by this effort. It's so difficult to express the core of dysfunction without sounding sophomoric - but the author succeeds. However, it's difficult to distinguish everyone's cutesie names and I still struggle to understand the need for the dog Hueylene, whose useless presence is forced upon the reader throughout. As the Ya-Yas chat, we must be told that the dog's tail thumps on the carpet. It just bugged me, that's all. But I really did enjoy the book and would love for Ms. Wells to write more - with a new cast of characters.

Summary: um...girl power
Review: this is the kind of book for fem-bonding. mother and daughters should read this, sisters, aunts, gramma's, friends....after you read this book its like an estrogen high. i wouldnt be surprised if the Feminist Organization got loads of members after handing out this book. Okay really, this is a really good/emotional book, I wouldnt recommend this book for men...unless you have a REALLY strong feminine side.

Summary: AHH! DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILIES!
Review: I loved this book. Vivi is such a pain, but hearing her side of the story, how she grew up in a house without love makes you get a better picture of why she was the way she was. Sidda has a right to be angry, but Vivi has such a audacious personality that you can't help but like her! I thought Wells did a great job showing the love/hate relationships between Vivi and Buggy and between Sidda and Vivi.

Summary: It was okay . . .
Review: I listened to the audio of this novel. The author did a good job of reading -- bringing the different characters to life. I didn't love this book, however, because it was too full of cliches -- the over-the-top Southern mother, the oppressive Catholic Church, etc. -- that it just didn't ring true. The plot was so predictable that I was bored most of the time. Obviously many others who read this book got more out of it than me, but I think I'll pass on anything else by Ms. Wells.

Summary: Great mother/daughter book with a touch of southern women
Review: Vivi, Necie, Caro, and Teensy have a friendship like no other. They grew up together in the heart of the South and made many memories. Now, when all of their children are grown up Vivi and her daughter, Siddalee, are having problems. It is up to the Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood to mend this mother/daughter relationship back together.

This book is great for all women. As I neared the end I couldn't put it down but didn't want to finish it. Thank goodness for the official web site, www.ya-ya.com, so that I can keep the loving feeling by talking to other ya-ya addicts. This is absolutely one of the best books...EVER!

Summary: WOW! Finally a book that explores the depth of women's souls
Review: I put off reading the Ya-Ya sisterhood for a very long time, I didn't believe that any book could really grasp the unique closeness of female friendships. In retrospect, I should have read it the first day I saw it. This book really hits home! I saw my mother, my grandmother, myself, my friends, like we had been pressed inbetween the sheets. Ms.Wells weaves her story in a comfortable southern drawl that nearly belies the raw emotion of her work. She's a first rate story teller, and she hits the nail on the head with this one! 84,000 kudos.

Summary: DELICIOUS!
Review: I read this right after Little Altars Everywhere, like one book- it was delicious, rich and wonderful. It's been a long time since I've read a book I enjoyed this much. There is a scene in there that had me crying like I haven't cried since little Walt died in The World According To Garp. Honey, this book is GOOD!

Summary: A chick book
Review: My sister gave this to me, I thought it was about some african tribe, but really it was about a great american one. I love this book, it made me cry and laugh. Good for reading if you want to feel like a more normal, stronger woman. Written very well, describes southern culture so you're soaked up into it.

Summary: Fantastic - great book about friendship
Review: I just finished reading the divine secrets and I loved every word. I thought the story was very touching and beautiful. What great friends the Ya Ya's were. Tonight I am missing Vivi and company. Rebecca Wells writes beautifully about the relationship of the women as well as the complicated but loving relationship between mother and daughter.
