Summary: PRINCE OF TIDES---- WHAT A BOOK!!!
Review: The incredible description and imagery is simply captivating, I found myself unable to put the novel down! The southern ways Conroy captured made me feel like a true southerner at heart. The character development allowed me to know Tom, Savannah, Luke, and all the rest, like they were my own family. It was absolutely incredible, I wish it never ended!

Summary: As Close to perfect as I have read
Review: The book was probably the best contemparary book I have read in a while. His beutiful prose coupled with the life like dialogue had me both laughing and crying outloud. I personally identified with Tom so much so that I didn't want to see the book end. I was cheering for him even though I knew he would end up messed up.

Summary: Exciting, enthraling, - a definite WOW
Review: The Prince of Tides has, without a doubt, has been one of my favorite books of all time. I found the characters to be absolutely wonderful, especially Savannah. Conroy shows his fantastic, limitless imagination throughout the whole novel. A definite WOW.

Summary: Just Read It
Review: Okay, everybody get off your pedestals. Let's admit it: Conroy is an amazing writer. His grasp on words and the images he weaves make me jealous. Also, I don't see why some critics have a problem with the anecdotes Conroy places in the middle of the story. Newsflash: a book does not have to be boring to become a classic (i.e. Emily Bronte).

Summary: sweet but a bit soapy
Review: even though this book held some extremely suspenseful segments, which required toting it around to read at stoplights and work breaks, some of the focus is twisted onto cheap drama. I absolutely love Savannah, yes, savannah and not her character, and I adore the layout of the book as an anthology of childhood memories- - something we all have.

Summary: Perfectly Extraordinary
Review: As a first time reader of Conroy, after Prince of Tides I plan on rushing out to purchase The Great Santini and other works of his as soon as possible. The dialogue was lively, humorous and realistic, and Tom's wit and sarcasm helped to speed the book along while his magical tale unraveled smoothly full of rich description. Some sentences I had to reread three or four times; I was stunned that anyone could write as well as that. An excellent, fast read that comes with very high recommendations. Spend the three hours that you would used watching the inferior movie (that concetrates way too much on the affair) reading this magnificent book. One of my top five book choices.

Summary: A magical trip through the Southern lifestyle
Review: Pat Conroy awes and wows the reader in his novel, The Prince of Tides. This gripping and well-thought tale captures the imagination and leaves the reader wanting to read more about dear old Tom Wingo and his depressing but inspiring life. I suggest not reading the final page, because you will be upset that the book is over.

Summary: Conroy's prose becomes sheer poetry in "Tides"
Review: I have been a reader of Conroy ever since he started setting his stories in his native Coastal Carolina. All have been good reads. In "Prince of Tides," Conroy attains a new plateau. The work flows like good poetry. I challenge any serious reader to put it down before the last page. The word "epic" is grossly overused most of the time, but it is the word I associate with "Tides."

Summary: Perfect!
Review: Conroy captures us like few have ever dared to attempt. This novel is a must-read for any abused or neglected child coming to terms and forgiving their parents, for anyone who has ever desired a life better than what the small-town South has to offer, for anyone who needs reassurance about rising from the remains of a troubled past. A rewarding literary experience, also, for those who were not raised as white trash :). Southern to the bone in language and character, but universal in theme, this book is truly one of the best works of literature of our time. Magnificent as a whole, certain passages are jewels within themselves. My copy has been desecrated with pens, pencils and highlighters so that I may revel in these passages when comfort and guidance is needed. An absolutely perfect novel.

Summary: pretty good
Review: I found this book to be quite a pleasure. The descriptions are stunningly and vividly written. The plot is well-developed and the dialog shines. The characters are so real that by the time you reach the end of the book, you KNOW them-you can almost touch them. Some parts of the book lag, but overall, it is a fun book to read.
